Selling our DVC *Update!

So happy to hear you will stay in the fold!

I agree. The longer we vacation in WDW, the less time we spend in the parks.

We're been members since 1995 and are getting ready to sell our 350 OKW points later this year. We used the heck out of DVC for almost 20 years taking great trips and making great memories.

Now we have decided that vacationing within the restrictive DVC system is no longer of much interest to our family. The last year or so, we realized that, in addition to the high maintenance fee, we were spending heavily on other expenses (airfare, food, tickets) JUST to use our points. When in actuality, we would really rather have taken all that money and vacationed elsewhere. Owning DVC is no longer a 'win' for us; and, no, we're not interested in renting points indefinitely in the hopes that grandchildren pay appear sometime in the distant future.

There's wisdom in knowing when "to hold 'em and when to fold 'em…" :)

Thinking similarly. Member for 17 years. I think it was the yet again rise in park admission.

Members for 10+ years here, live locally, have young kids, thinking of selling. For us, it was the absolutely, no-holds-barred, revolting unit that we had at the Boardwalk over Thanksgiving that pushed us to want to sell. For the moment we haven't listed the boardwalk points, but we probably will. We will keep the 50 point Vero contract for the occasional night at Vero as we do like that resort and haven't had a bad experience there yet. When we go to Orlando, I'm all about the Marriott now...the hit-or-miss quality of DVC units scares me:crazy2:

Thank you all so much for your responses!

But, we will reevaluate once we buy our RV. At that point we will have to decide if it's worth having an RV and DVC.

Again, thank you all so much for sharing your stories here. And thank you for "listening" :goodvibes

I have to say I am a bit jealous because DH and I have always talked about getting an RV when we retire and spending 1 - 2 months at Ft Wilderness which is by far our favorite location of all resorts! We just out grew the cabins and love the bigger accommodations of DVC. I agreed to buy into DVC when I realized that DH will not drive more then 3 -4 hours (we live in CT) and he hates pulling any kind of tow vehicle. I would love it but then again I would not be driving!;)

We bought into DVC over 15 years ago. Our kids are now in their late 20s so selling our dvc has come up. We really don't go to the Disney parks anymore because we have done most of them many times. Would like to just enjoy the sights but we're not going to pay $100 a day for that so we have found other things to do. Cruises, Adventures by Disney and soon Vero Beach. There are still things to do and having the points kind of forces us to do them and for now that's a good thing. Lots of options to use them. We just have to do them. Being able to book online also helps and makes it even easier.
