Selfie Stick bans

That's the other thing: People need to learn to use it correctly. Keep a natural pose and do not extend your arm. If you use it correctly you shouldn't even see the stick in the picture.

This photo was taken using a monopod

Very nice pic! Good demonstration of a non-obtrusive (and non-narcissistic LOL) use. PS, your curls rock :)

Having just returned a week ago, I did see several selfie sticks in use. Before my trip I had this picture in my mind of sticks thrust all over the place, blocking every view of everything. Definitely not the case. I saw some being used, but I didn't think they were a problem. I didn't see any in use on rides, but I wouldn't be surprised if a ban comes down there. To me, the bigger problem are those using full size iPads for cameras, especially those that let their smart covers hang down, effectively doubling the size of the thing.

I'd much prefer someone using a selfie stick to the folks who pose on one side of a walkway while another stands on the opposite side with a camera and we pedestrians are expected to either wait for the shot or detour around.

So totally agree. If I see someone doing this, I will wait just a few second but if the photo taker is still moving people around on the other side of the walkway and trying to get the perfect photo, I just keep walking. It really aggravates me when someone thinks they can get a "no other people in the area" shot at Disney World but having to hold up others while getting that shot.

I am really surprised they even allow them on the rides. I see nothing wrong with them but I think every other amusement park in the country doesn't even allow cameras on rides.
I did think about getting one for our trip since I'm renting a GoPro (and someone on here has a really awesome video of their vacation at WDW using it on rides and stuff) but then I looked at some GoPro selfies with the stick and they looked kinda dumb because you could see the stick lol
With the wide view angle of the lens it looks like just doing it hand held works just fine. So no selfie stick for me!
I might take my tripod though - it's pretty compact.

You'll want to mount the GoPro on something. It doesn't have to be a long stick; the majority of the time I use The Bobber mount which is maybe 8" long. Hand-holding the camera with no mount at all will make your footage very shaky. That is the first and most important reason to use a mount.

Disney doesn't enforce a lot of 'rules' they already have in place - to 'ban' selfie sticks would just be another rule they won't enforce. Just there and saw lots of kids riding on ECV's with an adult - accidents waiting to happen - no enforcements.

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, but there seems to be quite a few DSLR-using folks here...

I am bringing my DSLR for the first time to WDW this summer, and I was wondering, do you think 18-55mm lens is good enough to get me through Kilimanjaro Safaris and seeing animals in general in AK? Or should I bring my 55-200mm lens?

I was at WDW early March for a week saw 5 maybe 8. Nice folks just stepped in on me and my DH and offered to take our photo like 5 times. I love offering to step in and help others with a photo. A lady who was a photographer in real life offered to help me optimize my Samsung phone to take better pictures.

Folks in general are nice and helpful in my opinion.

I find the ipad being lifted over head just as the fireworks start and changing my view into the view of the ipad more annoying than a stick
Wait til the pad people get the looming 13 incher in their hands, about 65% larger. :scared1:

Those are great!! :thumbsup2

Would you use the zoom anywhere else in the parks? For me, the answer is no, and I won't bring a lens to use on one ride like that. I used the 17-55 almost exclusively (save for an ultrawide angle) on our last trip and thought it was a great range.

Ok! Thanks!

I was thinking I probably wouldn't use the 55-200mm lens anywhere else... I'll just take my regular zoom lens. :)

To be honest I'm not real sure how much I'll actually use it to take video with on the rides. Considering most are the roller coaster type and I'm not real big on those but I think I can handle the MK ones but I'm still pretty sure I will be gripping the handle bar lol

Now on Dumbo and the tea cups I think I can handle just holding the camera ;)

But I sure am tempted to get one... just 'in case'

Are there sticks that work for both cameras, go pros and phones? Or do they all pretty much just have their own dedicated ones?

I'm not sure why everyone has a problem with people holding Ipads over there heads. If you can't see what's going on, you can now look at the Ipad screen and see what's going on. Very convenient. :teeth:

Just dedicated ones, as far as I know. The GoPro uses its own mount that is quite different from anything else I've seen.
