Selfie Stick bans

Just dedicated ones, as far as I know. The GoPro uses its own mount that is quite different from anything else I've seen.

That what I figured.... I can rent one for $20 with the rest of the gopro stuff I'm renting... Maybe I should just suck it up and get it.
Although it looks like I could just buy one outright for about the same price... but then what will I do with it after I return the GoPro? lol
I suppose there's always the unethical thing of buying one and then returning it....... not a big fan of that though.

You can buy one with the regular camera screw and attachments for gopro and/or phone. Here are some examples

Hearing about iPads held overhead always reminds me of this.

Can someone Photoshop in an iPad?

LOL awesome

I'm not sure why everyone has a problem with people holding Ipads over there heads. If you can't see what's going on, you can now look at the Ipad screen and see what's going on. Very convenient. :teeth:

It's actually pretty bad view looking through someone elses ipad plus the camera on them isn't that high of a quilty. It's only good for shooting something to view on an ipad.

I doubt they will ban them. I was there last month and the announcer guy on the move it shake parade thing encouraged the crowd to get out their selfie sticks. As someone mentioned before it is only a matter of time before they make some Olaf ones and sell them for $29.95

It is my understanding that the reason a major ride was shut down was because of a selfie stick hitting it, being propelled out of the idiots hand, and hurting a rider behind them in the head so selfie sticks are banned on all attractions even in the waterparks. I got this from someone in a management position in one of the parks where they are enforcing it. Not sure if they are in all the parks.

What parks are these? Not Disney, for sure.

I was there this past NYE and while I did notice several selfie sticks, most users seemed to be aware of surroundings and using them politely. They only thing that bothered me were the people in line to meet characters who would not ready them while waiting and instead wait until it was their turn. We had a group of girls in front of us who where oblivious to the fact they took at least 5 minutes to set it all up AFTER they had their photos taken by Memory Maker AND their own DSLR. I don't mind taking a bunch of photos but on NYE, with such huge lines everywhere, 5-10 minutes to take a selfie was a bit much.

I actually am contemplating getting one for my upcoming trip but I don't think we'll use it much and I know to be courteous and considerate when using it. I take more issue with the annoying iPads blocking views and emitting so much light it ruins everything, but still not enough that I will let it ruin my day. I think the sticks are not really a bad idea - sometimes when you're alone or just two people like we are, I feel really bad to constantly stop people for photos.

Selfie sticks? No problem.
Ipads being utilized as ginormous cameras? Extremely annoying. Now that is something I would love to see banned. ::yes::

We have an iPad and I've never understood by people use them for videos and photos, they are big and bulky and I wouldn't be taking them into Disney, mostly it is just used in the car or in the hotel room.

Well, if they're planning on banning selfie sticks, they should first start with banning them for runDisney events. Sure, they're dangerous in the parks but at least you're just walking and may have an opportunity to duck out of the way. But when you're running and someone flings one out in front of you, you aren't really able to avoid getting whacked with one of these nuisances. Happened to me at this year's Frozen Family 5K. I wanted to snatch that thing out of the chick's hand and start beating her with it, but that wouldn't have been very Disney of me.

I only noticed people with selfie sticks in a couple shows last week and CMs were quick to tell them to put it away. It's not an issue for me as long as WDW keeps them in check for shows.

This was just posted by DVC Central on Facebook. I am not sure where they got the information, but they have been reliable in the past.

Has anyone tried using the clamp mount on rides to get a self video?
(of course for safety purposes, and to prevent loss of the camera, as a back up you could tether it via a small line to your wrist)
