Selfie Stick bans

Sure there's a ban, but only rule followers follow the rules. As if Disney would confiscate them! Now that'd be a ban! (And not going to happen). You're on a roller coaster, person pulls out their "stowed" away stick. They are not going to stop the coaster, when you get off you'll get a "stern talking to".

But. It's a start
( just a bit cynical due to too many ' entitled types')

as a back up you could tether it via a small line to your wrist

I'm not a safety engineer, nor do I play one on TV, but that just seems pretty dangerous, should that mount fail and fall forward or to the side of the ride vehicle, your wrist could get jerked along with it...

We saw this on the local news last week while at WDW. They claimed they were banded on rides at WDW & at Universal.

Glad Disney is trying to put a stop to this nonsense with the selfie sticks. It used to be people would go on vacation and still have consideration for others also sharing the same space for their vacation. But no more. The me first mentality has taken over the parks and I for one am sick and tired of it. A selfie stick whacks me and the person owning it will be taken a selfie of the person next to them for now on cause it is going over my knee.Feel the magic.

I've only seen a couple of selfie sticks in use but can see where there would be an issue. The "selfie" generation just doesn't think about others to begin with. We are talking about a generation which has been brought up using computers/cell phones and not really interacting with people. They take selfies willy nilly without looking around them. Add a stick and you just made it more difficult for safety in a crowded area.

That said, I would also say that most of the complaints I have heard are that they don't pay attention to their surroundings. This has resulted in people being nearly whacked in the face. I would say that picture taking at Disney (and other tourist areas) has always run the danger of someone just stopping and taking pics. It happens all the time. I have always been extremely vigilant when I am in crowds and usually can spot people about to stop abruptly. I guess we all need to be aware and watch for people about to use their sticks, too! If people look like they might even come to a stop, prepare to move around them.

Aloha,

I sincerely apologize if this has already been addressed...

Does Walt Disney Company currently or plan to have any Selfie Stick bans in effect for their properties? Most especially for parades, fireworks, etc...?

I ask because they are becoming a great nuance and affect a lot of people in their vicinity.
I don't know but I certainly hope so, they were annoying on the cruise as well. During parties people would stick them up right in your face and then when we got to WDW same thing.

I'm seeing they have banned them for use on attractions, but not in the parks.

Banning them on rides is an awesome first step. I wish they'd ban them during shows and parades, but it's probably just too hard to police.

Years ago you would have found lots of broken "selfish sticks" in the garbage at WDW placed there by guests who'd been poked with one by some inconsiderate cretin..
Today we are far too tolerant of those who place their personal wants and desires above the exercise of common courtesy and safety concerns.
Each person is only one of more than seven billion humans on the planet and those who were told that the Earth revolves around their rear end were lied to........

I'm still waiting for things to come full circle and 'othies' catch on

And while they are at it maybe banning the big Ipads too! "I only watch activities from my cool large retina display - see how life like it is" says the dopey guy in front of me and all the kids trying to watch the parade!:rolleyes1

What age group is the "selfie generation"?? As a 24 year old college student who was brought up with computers and cell phones as well, I've just never seen people my age "taking selfies willy nilly" or not interacting with other people. So that's just a really strange phenomenon you seem to be witnessing.

In all honesty, the problem I've had with it is losing my 54 year old mother countless times in public because I look around and she's 10 feet behind me staring at her phone and nearly running into people...lol.

As the mother of a 14 year old, I think I can answer this for you. :)
