I was reading the Navigators from the 7-Day and I kept seeing something about the "Segway Human Transporter". Is this like a virtual reality- type thing? How much does it cost to do?

Thanks!

Chip

According to their website, the Segway is the evolution in mobility. One of the recent trip reports states that it costs $20.00 for 10 minutes. You can read Mtdewbuzz's trip report here. Looks like fun!

We were also on the 8/3 cruise and saw the Segway in action. The makers of the Segway has let Disney be the first company to test and demo their product. Disney is thinking of using them at the parks, etc. to get their CM's from one place to another (heard this directly from a CM).

There were offering demos/rides on this up on Deck 10 for $20. for either 10 or 15 minutes. It was pretty cool seeing one of the CM's use it all around deck 10. We even saw one of them using it on Key West to get around town.

It looks like a scooter, but with one axel and two large wheels. You stand upright on it and are able to balance because of the gyros inside it. It is pretty neat.

They also had a photo session in the Atrium Lobby if you wanted your picture standing on it.

A few months ago, if you remember, the Segway made a big intro in the media. It was all hush, hush, and no one knew what the new personal transportation vehicle would look like. They counted down the days and then displayed it. It was on all the early morning talk shows. I clearly remember all the hype a few months ago.

Does the wonder have a Segway too?

That would be so cool to be able to try one. They have one in the local science center here, so I have looked at them, but I would love to try it.

Thanks!!

Bumping for a possible answer.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

There was a Segway on the 04 August Wonder cruise. My wife and I both got to ride it. I rode it a couple of loops in front of the Walt Disney theater. My wife got to make 2 laps around deck 10. She said it was fun waving to the people eating dinner at Palos as she rode by. She then rode into the forward elevator, holding it steady as we went to deck 8, and then down the hallway to our cabin door. She really did not want to give it back to the CM.

We saw it at EPCOT just a few days ago. The CM was driving it around Spaceship Earth. It looked fun! I can't wait to try it on the Magic, too. I hope they still have it in January.

After reading MJ's post I remembered all about it. I live near Atlanta and I think the Police here are using them. Maybe we'll try it!

Now I remember the hype, but wasn't it called something other than "Segway" by Good Morning America?

I remember the postal service was going to use it and I saw a lot of letter carriers on TV riding around. Yikes!!! What did they call it

I believe they may have referred to it by the company name and HT for Human Transporter. Or so my memory tells me. :D

Thanks, that sounds familiar. Stuff like this can drive you crazy;)

My DH and I got to ride the Segway on the 3 night Wonder (8-15). He rode it up on the sports deck and I rode it the next day at CC! $15 for 10 minutes. It was really neat. It was truly a unique experience and I recommend riding it so you can say you tried something different. Just relax on it and don't be so tense like i was and it is the smoothest ride! Have fun! ;)

I rode it on are 8-10 7 day cruise it was great nobody inline so I had it for 30 40 min. it was great.

I predict that this product will have a short lifespan, at least for mainstream use. The Wall Street Journal did a great article about it a while back, focusing on how the company is lobbying to make it legal to use on sidewalks. In a place like downtown Chicago, it will be a fad until the first accidents when the trial lawyers get involved...then bye bye!

We saw it on a recent Magic cruise but thought the $2/minute price tag was steep. We also saw CM using it in Epcot. I think it would be neat around the mall or college campuses but I kept imagining someone riding it too close to the stairs. Apparently companies can buy them but they are not yet available to consumers. Here is a link to their website.

I had just read this post right before the News at Noon on my local Manchester, NH TV station...Unbelievably, they did a segment about DCL contracting with the Segway company to provide the units for the CM's use on the ships. They even showed a CM using it on one of the outside deck on the Wonder! How funny a coincidence is that???
