The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

We will be staying in a 2 bedroom villa the first full week of January. Is there any recommendation for what I should request? It's funny because we booked the room 7 months out with other points...and ended up adding on points for Disneyland in September.

If the dedicated 2BD, they are all the stack at the north tower end. One side monorail slide area, Rooms xx00. The other on the Palette pool side, Rooms xx01. (Floors 3-12).

Here is the interesting part. You will read about the palette pool side view…yes it includes the ‘beautiful’ cityscape. It’s scenic at night. Plus that palette pool below looks cool all lit up. But that palette pool side has better balcony viewing than the front.

This is why: When you look at the front face of the tower. Those two bedroom balconies (off the primary bedroom), have that facade that comes out. (The one Tinkerbell flies on at night). That extension blocks your due north line of sight. Great eastern view of the resort, and parks. That view is great.

Now the palette pool side balconies (also off the primary bedroom), don’t have that decorative extension. You can lookout to the north from the rail (best higher floor to clear Goofy Kitchen building), and actually view north to north-east, though the space between the Fantasy & Adventure towers. (Will see some of Disneyland..like steam from Mark Twain). That’s correct. Without that extension blocker, (which also hides the emergency stairs on that side), you can see back toward the front side of the tower!

Had no request. Got 1001. (Palette pool side)..that’s how I now about the view at the north balcony railing, on that side.

Nope. In the tower, no balconies with a studio. Not even the tower show rooms. They usually show a studio connected to a one bedroom. The balcony is in that unit portion. Again, you will not find one deluxe studio (in the tower portion), with a balcony. Only a Duo Studio. There are no duo’s in that tower, with a balcony, until floor #3.

Hmm...I have no idea why I thought both studios I saw had balconies. I know the 1-bedroom did because we were up higher and I didn't go out to check it out at all.

Like Astro, we don't actually use our balcony a whole lot at VGC. We've only been on park side and it's honestly really loud so not really a relaxing place to hang out, in my opinion. And at BRV, so far we've only been on ground level so no real desire to sit out there either.

They do have nice full glass panel windows for a good view out of the studios. There is one spot different than the rest. When entering the tower, look up at the center area below the grand villas.

You will see a two studio stack in the center (each attached to a one bedroom, so Tiana themed). The windows are obviously different than all the rest of the rooms. They have a handle device that you can crack open partly to the fresh air.

xx18 and xx20 deluxe studio stack.

So, I just got back from my stay after renting out of the DVC tower through a member.

Listed my pros and cons. Tbh, I've considered buying into DVC after renting but still debating about it. For reference, I have stayed in the Adventureland tower in a King size bed room. That was a phenomenal stay so I felt like it was a good comparison for DVC.

pros:

  • price, I rented so it was literally like half the cost.
  • kitchenette
  • nice bathroom and shower
  • lots of elevators in the tower
  • thematically a beautiful tower

cons:
  • I found the walking paths way too long, compared to adventureland tower it feels like I'm walking x3 the distance to the same place. I guess technically you could use the gate but I could never tell whether or not it was usable. This could just be my own error though.
  • seems like you can't BYOD for the tvs, they seem to be anchored to the wall.
  • the studios have no real table to eat on, unless you eat over the dresser or something
  • Room service was showing up at 8am (I was on the 3rd floor). Idk if this is just something I experienced but I just found this crazy lol.

  • the TVs do not allow you to hook up your own devices. I wasn't allowed to hook up my switch 2. I work in IT, so I definitely knew what I was doing.

It can be far compared to the best tower at DLH yes. But you could always get put in the Frontier tower when you pay cash since towers the times I paid cash weren’t guaranteed. You can cut through the pool during pool hours and it shortens the walk a ton.

I had room service show up at 6:30am by request.

Studios can be small for dining in room. Great news is upgrading to 1 bed with full kitchens and tables is so much cheaper while owning DVC than paying cash for a 1 bed.

Renting is paying someone elses dues and then some. Owning you can continue to take vacations year after year. You can even stay in Hawaii, Vero Beach, Hilton Head, WDW. It opens up lots of vacation possibilities. You also have flexibility that you don’t get while renting. Lastly if you decide you don’t want to go to Disney anymore you can sell it and get back some of the money you put in. It’s not just all spent vacation money.

Wanted to add a con so I don’t sound like a total DVC sales person.

Renting confirmed reservations or booking cash gives you the ability to plan only a couple months out. Owning DVC in CA requires much more advance planning.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. I’m not a tv expert for what these can or can’t work with. They are on a metal wall mount that can be pulled forward, exposing the hookups behind. (I learned this our very first stay during grand opening. They had switched the hook ups for the light behind the tv & the entry room switch lighting….fixed that little oops for them).

I have never used room service at a disney hotel. But I would assume they only bring you food when you order it or at the time you requested. So I'm confused by that bullet point.

When staying at VDH...if you have a car, do you park in the garage or is there a different lot? Self parking, NOT valet.

Is it a surface lot like the one at the Grand Cal or is it that garage that I see on the map?
We have always parked surface, but it’s possible that we have just been lucky to always find a spot there.
Edit: let me ask my husband I just realized last tip I was dropped off out front before he parked.

The lot is directly on your right as coming through security check. You can drive up front and unload if you wish.

Now this one will probably get used more now with me bringing it up. When you make the turn to the self parking surface lot, look to see if the ramp up to the roof is open. The roof over the convention center is self park! There is an elevator up there & have option of entering doors by foot and come on down the stairs/escalator to first floor by Goofy’s Kitchen!
