Secrets & Little Known Facts about rides

on the nemo ride @ epcot, has anyone ever noticed the little starfish that tells you how many people have come thru the park that day? we've heard it the last 2 times we've been on it and we were there last tues. and it said 18,000 people came thru the day before!
The line is scripted. It's not the actual Epcot attendance number.

:sad2:

I am sorry if this has been mentioned..... In Epcot on the way to EE we stopped at some restrooms. I was sitting on the benches by the water when I heard what sounded like "Mike & Mike" on ESPN. However it was a "radio station" broadcasting expeditions that had been going on and were going on at Mt Everest. It was so funny. It actually sounded live. I may have only heard it because it was early and there werent many people around yet. However listen for it next time you go.

Are you sure this is in Epcot?

OK, I LOST THE LINK WHERE ALL THESE INTERESTING FACTS ARE LISTED. SOMEONE HELP ME FIND IT PLEASE SO I CAN PRINT IT OUT AND READ??? COULD SPEND FOREVER FINDING IT AND HAVE TO HAVE MY HAIR COLORED IN ONE HOUR. WOULD LOVE TO READ IT WHILE I AM PROCESSING!!!:confused3

I read a wonderful book from my library called "Realityland" - the making of WDW. I thought it might be a negative look at the world, but it was not. Just a REALLY in-depth look at the evolution of each park. It is filled with all sorts of stuff I din't know.

I believe one of her other ones is "What I wouldn't give for a good root canal." or something like that. :rotfl:

First of all, I am suprised that someone hasn't come on here saying that they have every single right to put their feet in the fountain for all they pay..hahahaha

Second of all, you guys are great and I have so enjoyed reading this entire thread. I hope I can remember some of these when I go next month.

I had wondered more than once about the Unicorn parking section...

I do have a question for all of you Disney specialists.... We went to HDDR in September for the first time but I swear I had seen that show while eating a sandwhich in MK like 10 years ago. Am I crazy?

No, you're not crazy. But it wasn't the HDDR. You're probably thinking of the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon in Frontierland. Back in the day they used to have a western-style show (not unlike HDDR) in there, and it was a counter-service food place. From what I recall it was a fun little show, and at Disneyland was one of Walt's favorites (he even had his birthday party in there, with a performance from the cast). A shame it got the axe here.

That had to be it! I just knew it seemed familiar when I saw the show. That was before ADR's and Dining plans and Dis were in my world. Thank you Ladygracey!

I also just watched a show on Discovery Health I think, like medical mysteries or real life stories from the ER or Dr. G, Medical Examiner, something medical like that. On the show they had a man who had felt very ill after riding a ride at an Orlando area amusement park and it showed it in the background and i swear it looked like Primal Whirl. Anyway, he died. They were trying to see why he died because there were some other reports on this ride with brain annerisms (sp?) or something like that and the amusement park was wanting to know his cause of death.

And she says something about the song, like, "yeah its a great song but they never - stop - singing - it!"

Ok need some help. My father worked for Eastern Airlines the first offical airline of Walt Disney world. If I remember Eastern sponserd a ride in tommarow land. If so can you guys give me some details Icant recall much about it but I think it showed movie like you were riding in several things from airplanes to racecars ( racecar spelled backwards is still racecar:rotfl: ). Second question when we were walking around mk I noticed the rails or tracks in the water around cindys castle was there a ride there at one time. I vaugly remember something there from years gone by.

If You Had Wings, which opened in 1972. It became If You Could Fly in 1987 when Disney removed references to Eastern after Eastern withdrew sponsorship. It went through a couple more versions until it was rebuilt as Buzz Lightyear's Space Rangers Spin.

The tracks may have been for the Swan Boats, which I don't think were around very long.

If you had Wings was one of my favorites! Remember it well from my childhood years. Remember those Swan Boats also by the castle - had forgotten about those. Where was the ride 20,000 Leagues located? I remember the ride, just don't remember where where it was.

Extreme back of the park in Fantasyland, where Pooh's Playful Corner and Ariel's Grotto are located. They actually only cover a portion of the area - the rest is behind walls, but is pretty much filled in.

Alas, I was a "late child" at Disneyworld (I was 28 when I first went) and didn't get to ride either of them, but I know a lot about the history. I'm kind of glad they filled in/blocked off the 20k lagoon, as it made me sad to see it just sitting there and not be able to experience it.

"If you had wings..." duh duh duh duh, "If you had wings "duh duh duh duh" -- god, I can STILL sing that song!!! It was a travelogue for all the destinations Eastern flew, basically - you rode in the same style of car as they use on Buzz, and movies were all around you as the track curved up and down and backward. At one point you're on the Champs d'Elysee, you're also on a runway taking off or landing from the plane's perspective, and at another point you're in Jamaica in the middle of those really cool waterfalls that people walk across, and it ends with you going through the night sky and stars all around. "If you had wings" ... and in every movie, the people looked like they were singing the song with you... It was worse than "It's a small world" for stick-in-your-head-ness!!!

yes that is it thanks. I miss the 20k too. I also miss the overhead tram that went from tommarow land to just past Pinocio haus. I could not place the swiss looking buliding but then rememberd what was there.

Wasn't there a ride (could be at Disneyland even) that made you feel like you had been shrunk and you were in the body? I remember it and rode it a couple of times so I know it had to be a Disney ride. For some reason I think it was Epcot but it was a long, long time ago and my memory won't let that one out.
