Seasickness in the Western Caribbean

I realize weather will have an effect, but in general, how rocky is the water in the Western Caribbean? I got horribly seasick on the first couple days of our Alaska cruise a few years ago and I'm hoping to avoid having that happen again. Fortunately, we are mid-ship this time, whereas we had an (amazing but incredibly rocky) aft cabin in Alaska. What can I expect this time? We are sailing at the end of Sept/beginning of Oct and crossing our fingers that there are no hurricanes!

How sick have you gotten in the Western Caribbean?

We were on the western itinerary on the Fantasy July 21- 28, midship on deck 8. We felt very little rocking. It was a very calm trip.

I take sea sick meds before I get on the ship and take for a few days until my body is use to it. The key is to always take them even if you don't feel it.

That being said I was on a southern Caribbean cruise over Easter. I have never felt so sick. Even my husband and staff were sick.
I have never wanted to get off a ship more. It was an 11 night.

The staff told me that it had to do with the wave frequency and the hull of the ship. It was notorious for seasickness the Carribean.

I have been on 3 Disney cruises and only felt sick once....it was Christmas 2008 and there was a storm in the Caribbean - no rain but lots of wind. The sports deck was closed for a time (we were on the Magic and it was a western itinerary). We "parked" to tender to Grand Cayman & it was taking 2 hours to get back and forth and they finally stopped running the "to" tenders. That being said, neither one of my kids or my DH felt sick. I took Bonine and slept through it (the rocking of the boat -- we had an inside cabin -- actually helped me go to sleep). I did miss Pirate dinner and the party, but never got sick sick.
Our very first cruise I wore the patch. I won't do it again. We felt the boat motion the very first night -- again we were on the Magic on a western itinerary but it was in the beginning of December 2007 -- but after that we were fine,,,,,but by Tuesday I couldn't read anything because my vision was sooooo blurry -- a side effect of the patch.....I couldn't read menus at all! So I took it off and was totally fine.
Last summer we were on a 5 day Bahamian cruise on the Dream and other than Dramamine the very first day......I didn't take a thing and didn't feel the boat move at all :)

Just my experiences.......

The weather and sea conditions vary all the time, there is no set pattern.

TAKE THE MEDS!.

Better yet, ask your family doctor what he would recommend for how you react to sea sickness.:thumbsup2
