We are leaving in 26 days - not that I am counting or anything! I read earlier on these posts about the sunscreen I think was called Sea Safe - the one that protects you from sea lice.....I just tried to search for that thread and can not find it. Can anyone tell me where to buy this? I would rather be safe than sorry. Thanks! Kim

I posted this on another thread about jellyfish on CC...hope it helps. I know other people have gotten it at drugstore.com, and someone mentioned that you can find it at Walgreen's in Florida.

If you want a good deal on Safe Sea, and either have a larger family or someone to share with so that ordering 3 bottles (probably for less than 2 at most sites) is reasonable, here's what you can do:
Go to http://www.safesea.net/ Their price is $9.95 per bottle, which is a good price to begin with (most are $12-13). Order 3 bottles. Proceed to checkout. Because you ordered multiple bottles, it will show a discount code that gives you 10% off. Change that code (it's there in a little box on the lower left) to DUMP5. That code gives you $5 off orders over $25 (which yours is, because you got 3 bottles) AND free shipping! As a result, I got 3 bottles (sharing with friends) for $24.85 incl. shipping Ordering 2 bottles and using the 10% discount (which doesn't include free shipping), the total came to $23.96, so that 3rd bottle is only $.89!

Safe-sea,

I ordered 3 bottles on 2/25/04 from www.lifesytlesdirect.com which is the distributor and received them in 3 days. They were on my front door this morning.

We're sailing in Apirl and didn't want to chance it.

I bought some as well. I found it for $7.00 per bottle at a local SCUBA dive shop. You might want to place a few calls and see if you can get it locally.

I just received my order today, and all three bottles have expirations dates of 1/04. I emailed Lifestylesdirect, and I'm awaiting their response.

I ordered ours from drugstore.com. I just checked the expiration dates and they are 5/06. Kathy

<font color=seagreen>Thanks for noticing this. I checked my bottles that I recieved from the same place just this week, :worried: they expired in Jan. of this year. I called them and left a message and emailed. I hope they make good on this. </font>

Yikes! I'm still waiting for mine to come, but that's not good. On the positive side, it is virtually guaranteed to be effective; those expiration dates are exceedingly conservative. On the other hand, they shouldn't be selling anything that is past its date, and they need to make it right...in time for the trip!

I hope this doesn't sound like a silly question, but what are sea lice? I've never heard of them.

Thanks for your post and I checked my bottles also.

Of the three bottles I purchased, 2 -SPF 15 and 1- SPF 30,

only the SPF 30 had an expiration dtd of 1/04. The 15 - SPF has an exp dtd of 4/05.

Will definitley follow this thread to see how Lifesavers respond.

THis is my first post over here at the Cruise boards as we have just started playing with the idea of a cruise for our next family vacation..... BUT HOLD THE PHONE.... what the heck is "sea lice"? EWWWWW! .....................P

WHAT IS "SEA LICE"??

Well I see that nobdy has answered this question yet so, here goes.

"Sea Lice" are bady jelly fish. Remember in the movie "Finding Nemo" when Dory sees this little jelly fish swimming in the water and calls it "Squishy". Well if you put the size of the baby jelly fish in perspective with the other fish, it is very, very small.

Anyway, at certain times of the year, depending on water temperature, wind conditions etc, jelly fish along with their babies float into the area.

What happens is that as you are swimming the get logged into your swim suits and sting, release a venem through a small puncture wound in the skin. You don't know there, even there cause you can't see them.

Anyway. this sting causes a skin rash which can be irriating for a few days.

"Safe Sea" is a lotion which you place on your body like sun tan lotion to prevent the stings from taking place.

It is important to put it on BEFORE you place your swim suit on as these little creatures will swim into your suit and lodge in the area between your suit and skin.

www.lifesavers.com has a grat description of it on their web site.

I hope this helps.

Has anyone gotten a respone from Lifestyles yet? I emailed yesterday morning, but I haven't gotten a reply.

I got my 3 bottles friday afternoon from Lifestyles and they too have an expiration date of 1/04. It was too late to call so I will have to wait until Monday to call. If anyone else gets a reply please post.:(

For all you readers of this post, The link I mentioned in my above post for info on sea lice was incorrect. I didn't realize it until now when I was reading the boards.

Anyway the correct link is www.safesea.net

Sorry for any inconveinence.

I just recieved my bottles last Friday and I never looked at the expiration date. I'll d that when I get home from work tonight.

I received an email today stating that they don't have any bottles with a later exp. date, so they are refunding my purchase.

Should I use these in May or order more from Drugstore.com?

I've ordered but not gotten my yet, but I'm guessing they will be past the expiration too. However, my bet is that the effectiveness will still be fine; if you want to be very careful as far as the sunscreen aspect of it, reapply slightly more often than you might otherwise. I might be wary of ordering from them again in the future, however, if their inventory control didn't pick this up; a few months won't matter much in this product, but in other items it could.
