Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there. I think it would be a nice touch if the waitstaff at Sci-Fi were dressed as Hollywood movie stars or characters from movies. The place reminds me a bit of Jack Rabbit Slims from the movie Pulp Fiction. Maybe Sci-Fi could have waitstaff dressed as characters from popular Sci-Fi movies. I think it would give it that extra Hollywood theming for a restaurant in Hollywood Studios. Anyhow, just a thought.

:rotfl2: could you work in an outfit like that?

I'm thinking characters like:

Flash Gordon
Mr. Spock
Buck Rogers
Lando Calrissian
Captain Kirk
Sarah Conner
Ellen Ripley
Han Solo

I don't see it, myself. Why would these be hanging at a drive in?

Plus, copyright might be a problem for a lot of these.

They would be hanging at a Drive-In because it's a Sci-Fi Drive In. Or they could go with Hollywood Actors from 50s/60s just like Jack Rabbit Slims. Hasn't anyone seen Pulp Fiction?

Copyright may be a problem, I agree - just trying to find ways to bring a little more Hollywood to Hollywood Studios.

Because there is no profit in Disney doing anything like that at a restaurant that has no problem filling tables, its never going to happen. Blue sky dreaming is all well and good, but tempering it with a little real world practicality doesn't hurt.

Have you ever met a restaurant that you didn't want to turn into a character meal? You do realize that some people actually prefer a nicely themed eatery without characters, right?

Foremost problem is the waitstaff would be slowed down when people would want to take pictures with them, and that would slow down service, and that would slow down table turnover which in turn diminishes Disney's profits and the waitstaff's tips. Given SciFi is already very popular Disney has no incentive to improve it let alone in a manner which reduces revenue.

That said, it does feel like all of Hollywood could use a reimagineering to harmonize the hodgepodge.

Just thought it would add a little something extra. I get that they have no problem filling tables there, it doesn't mean that improvements can't be made. Places that stand pat can eventually get stale.

I'm not looking to turn everything into a character meal, just looking for ways to enhance the overall dining experience no matter where in Disney it may be. I want a bit more Hollywood out of Hollywood Studios. Is that too much to ask?

The uniforms are appropirately themed to the venue/atmosphere now. supposed to be like being in a drive-in - very few actual drive ins had staff in costumes.

Many, many places actually in Hollywood where nothing and no one is dressed like a character or actor.

Agree with PPs - I think the theme is supposed to be more of a drive-in style theme, and the B movies are just background. I don't think the theme is geared towards the Hollywood side.

The Sci Fi Dine In is meant to resemble the drive in movie theaters that have mostly disappeared. While it might be fun to have servers dressed like movie stars or characters that doesn't fit with the drive in theme since servers in real drive ins didn't dress up as characters. However, when the Sci Fi first opened I remember the servers did wear roller skates and everyone got popcorn.

1) Not until people stop buying.
2) To quote the comic strip. Pogo, "We have met the enemy and it is us!"
3) If you want change, don't patronize.

I don't know...might get Monroe and Mansfield mixed up.
