Would you let your hs senior skip school tomorrow? It's a half day and I guess they are not doing any classes, it's a pep rally type competition thing the whole school goes to. From what I hear, lots of kids take the day off.

My mom never let my sister and I skip school on the day before holidays and yeah, no actual learning takes place. You're either watching a movie or doing some sort of pep rally thing outside.

So, answering your question, yes I would.

As long as they're not missing anything. Every now and then you get a bitter teacher that insists on having a test or critical assignment due right before a holiday break.

My daughter is off this week from high school. Their last day was the 17th. A LOT of students didn't show up that day. But my daughter went because she had a major test and her Pre-Cal teacher said she'll be starting new lessons. Also had an engineering project going on. I would have taken her out early but all the classes she had to attend were at the end of the day. But, if she had school today and as you described, she'd stay home.

Our school allows seniors with less than so many absences and above a certain grade waive their final exams. It would be up to them if they wanted to risk possibly having to take the final exam if they exceeded the allowed absences.

Why? Do you have plans? Does she not wat to attend the rally thing? I need more info before I can formulate an answer.

Should not be a problem, unless your school has a mandatory attendance policy. They would consider that an unexcused absence, and any additional absences could cause problems.

It seems a bit late in the game to "let" or "not let" your hs senior do anything school-related. I would hope that by halfway through senior year, she knows the school's policies and her own workload, and is capable of deciding whether she needs to be in a school on a particular day or not.

I let my kids decide, they knew best their workload and the associated consequences.
In HS the day before Christmas break was a half day where we had homeroom and then they showed Looney Tunes cartoons in the "Student Union" (central lobby). I didn't want to skip--I wanted to go hang out with my friends and watch cartoons!

No plans, just does not want to go. Says friends are skipping. Thinks pep rally is not worth it.
I do have to agree that it seems like a waste of a day. But then again there is some benefit to the social aspect of the pep rally. Myself as a social outcast I HATED pep rallies. My memory may be failing me but I don’t remember the day before break being anything but a normal day in HS.
