Scalp sunscreen?

Is there such a thing as a scalp sunscreen? No matter how I try to fix my hair it inevitably falls into a middle part (too short for ponytail) that the sun scorches and eventually peels (not a pretty sight). This happened to me twice this summer because I kept forgetting about it even though I am crazy about sunblocking my face and body. I may resort to wearing a hat but aside from that I was wondering if anyone knows of a product that I could rub or spray into my part that won't grease up my hair like regular sunscreen. Thanks.

I have the same problem except for the fact that my "part" is about 7 inches wide.

I use a spray on product called Banana Boat Sunblock. SPF 15!
I hate wearing hats and have used this each time I have been to WDW. Not once have I had sunburn and if I was going to get one my exposed scalp would be the closest to the sun.

It isn't oily but it does work a little like hair spray in that where it hits the hair it sort of stiffens up. Wind will not be a big problem either but it is better than sunburn and painful recovery. Good luck.

:sunny:  :smooth:

I use the same stuff as the last guy...and have perhaps even more skin exposed! Look an aweful lot like that little ball actually....

I've been using the stuff for years and never burn (when I remember to put it on, that is!)

Not sure if it is the same thing the previous posters were talking about - but Banana Boat makes a "Hair and Scalp Protector". It is a spray bottle and is just a watery liquid - not greasy. I use it where my hair parts and also all over the head on my kids who have very light blond/fine hair.

I have a full head of fine hair. I used Bullfrog and had not a trace of scalp burn, which I usually get without a hat.

I swear by Coppertone Sport spray. It's in a blue bottle with a spray top. Not greasy, and does a great job protecting your skin. When DD got her hair cornrowed on the Disney cruise, this protected all the parts in her hair!

Hawaiian Tropic has a product very similar to Coppertone's product. It's Spf 30 Ozone sport sunblock spray. Both products are very good. They are light and don't feel greasy. I will never use anything else again!

Thanks, gave me some ideas too.

On our last holiday, when my dd had her hair corn rowed I rubbed a sunblock stick along each part. It not only prevented sunburn but also helped prevent flyways.

Using the spray is a better idea though. We just got the coppertone sport dry spray and were disappointed using it because it seems to evaporate before we can make sure it's on evenly. So far we prefer the regular cream version.

mog - Does the Banana Boat "Hair and Scalp Protector" protect against chlorine or just sun?

It doesn't specifically say it protects against chlorine, but it does say "light oil-free formula providing UVA & UVB protection which helps prevent a sunburned scalp. It is also enriched with Aloe Vera, Panthenol and Vitamins C and E to help protect your hair from getting dry and brittle."

So it may also provide some protection from the drying effects of chlorine, too. I have noticed that it is sometimes hard to find. It is in a clear blue tinted spray bottle. I sometimes have to look at out of the way places to find it (other than Wal-Mart :D ).

I have become a firm believer in Blue Lizard. Even the bottle turns blue when it detects the UV rays.

I finally broke down and started wearing a ball cap. I don't usually like to wear them but I felt so much better at the end of the day(and it helped keep the blinding sunlight out of my eyes and off of my face).:D
