I am curious what other people use for storage and organization of their scrappin stuff! I am considering buying one of the tote bags for when I take my stuff out with me, does anyone have a particular one they like? I am have seen pics of the crop in style, generations one other brand-can't remember the name! Do you have any other neat storage ideas using things that weren't necessarily designed for scrapping? I would love to hear them! Right now I have my stuff just piled up and have to move it from place to place as I haven't established my cropping space in the house!

for leaving the house, I use a Zag - which is a tool box - the bottom section holds 12x12 paper or even an album, and the top section holds a lot of other supplies - at the last crop I went too, some people had that plus a paper holder, but I was able to get all my supplies in the Zag.

at home, I have the wire storage cubes I believe you can get them in Target, I have 3 cubes and used the rest of the sides to make extra shelves using cable ties - it works great and it fits very neatly into a wardrobe which I have taken over.

I also have a set of 4 plastic drawers which I keep all sorts of bits and bobs in, to be honest it's not very organised at the moment, and then some smaller drawers from the hardware department where I keep my punches - I don't have many punches though.

there are some pictures off my storage on 2 peas

I have a Crop in Style Jr. tote that I love. Lots of pockets. I've never seen the generations bag so I can't comment on that. I looked at the CM bags but they really seem tailored to hold just CM supplies (which makes sense) but I don't have any other than the corner rounder.
I have a drafting type table/desk that I found at Michael's about a year ago and it has a tray on the side for markers and stuff. I keep my papers in an expandable file keeper thing. Can't remember who makes it but I got it at Michael's too. I organize them by main color or theme. I keep my stickers in those clear plastic sleeves and put them in that file keeper too. I had to trim a little of the side to make them fit though.:o
Right now my scrap stuff is in our bedroom but we are in the process of having our basement finished and then it'll move downstairs to the office! Yeah!! In my head I envision a bookshelf next to my table to hold albums I'm working, boxes of pictures that I have yet to do, and scrapping idea books and magazines.
I would love to have a rack for papers but then thy's just get dusty between the times I scrap! LOL!!

bananiem -

you need to put your rack of paper in a cupboard - then you can have it easy to access, but no dust! I have never noticed a dust problem, and I can tell you I don't ever dust the playroom (where I scrap!)

At home I have a 6 foot table with a 3 drawer system on one end. I have a huge wire shelf system at the other end, it's about 5 foot tall, 3 foot wide and the shelves are very deep.

For cropping I use a fiskars rolling cart for my 12 x 12 things, a CM file mate system for themes, and the CM consultants tote for the rest. I just recently purchased a CIS Paper Taker and I love it. I was finally able to sort ALL my paper by color and found I had way more than I thought. Happy Scrappin'.

I have the Cropper Hopper (bin only...not the cart) which I store my paper piecings for my business as well as my 12x12 paper in the back. My "linen closet" in the hallway is my "office" where the top two shelves are devoted to business and storing idea books and binders and the bottom two are album storage, for complete albums, and new unopened albums, as well as page and page protector refills. The drawer holds misc. refills like photo splits, etc...This is perfect b/c the shelves are tall enough to store my albums upright. The "ottoman" in our living room that doubles as the coffee table, extra seating, foot stool opens for storage and I keep a lot of my scrapbooking stuff in there. I also have the Creative Memories workshop organizer that I store my non 12x12 paper in, as well as a big Cropper Hopper brand plastic storage case that I keep all my punches (it is full...and won't hold anymore) on one side and tools like pens, scissors, chalks, etc...on the other. I had the Creative Memories Memory Mate bag, but I am a "messy scrapper" meaning I never put the pens and scissors back into their slots, so throwing them in this plastic tote works for me. I just slip it under my bed. When I go to a crop, I take my CM album tote with my album(s) I'm working on, along with a 12x12 folder of 12x12 paper. I can also fit a couple of refills in here, as well as my fiskars trimmer, CM personal trimmer and CM cutting system. My CM workshop organizer that holds my non 12x12 paper. My storage system works best for cropping at home, as it takes a lot of prior planning for me to get everything condensed down to crop somewhere else. I need a better portable storage system, but I am so picky, plus I have so much stuff. I wish I could design my own, just to fit what I have! It seems like they always have either too many slots for scissors (which I don't have a lot of) or not enough slots for pens or punches or whatever. My friend has two of the ZAGs pictured in Bev's post, and she loves them for toting her stuff around. I look at them everytime I go to Walmart. I need to just break down and buy one and bring it home and see if it will work for me! Unfortunately we don't have enough space in this house for a separate scrapbooking area. It is at the top of my list for what I am looking for in a new house.

Happy Scrappin,
Candi

I have all of my stuff in a Fiscars rolling cart for now. It won't be enough when I start to get more punches, but it holds an amazing amount of stuff. I also have a few different accordian folder type things inside of it for stickers and papers. I love it because I don't always do my scrapbooking in the same room, and this way it's so easy to just roll it somewhere else.

I have the Crop in Style Jr. tote I really like it a lot but I have a feeling it may not be big enough in the future and I should have gotten the thing on wheels! LOL! I also have a card index for my pictures that has been such a help since I am so back logged! Plus it feels like such and accomplishment when I empty one slot out!
I hope down the road to create a small area in the basement. It is semi finished we have a bunk bed waiting to be refinished for DS once that is gone I hope to take over that area with a nice drafting style table and then some bins. I would love a rack on the wall to hold paper. I have been dreaming of a crafting area for a long time!

Hi

Bev - where did you get the wire cubes from? Do they hold the 12 x 12 paper/card?

At the moment I am working in my office, and as a newbie have limited supplies - but we are moving soon so will have dedicated space in the new office just for scrapbooking - I have it designed in my head already :D :D :D

The storage trolley I am using at the moment is really a Bathroom Storage Trolley from a local DIY store - it was half price and a bargain - and suits the needs for the time being, the drawers are great for holding all the scraps and bits and bobs.

The Zag Bev uses looks perfect for transporting to crops and maybe going onto my Wish list fairly soon :D :D

Janice, (in the UK) the only place I could find the wire storage cubes was the index shop, which is just in North Shields - this was after trailing all over newcastle looking in bigger shops, and going to costco etc - I couldn't believe I ended up getting them so close to home.

Item number 830-177

they are about 13x13 so are perfect for 12x12 paper storage.

I got my zag from Costco = and I am really pleased with it - I am kind of tempted to use it as my main storage once we move, as I want to do the opposite to most people, and move out of my dedicated scrapbooking area, and back into the living area - so that I can scrap and still be near my family (they miss me when I hide upstairs to scrap  )

Bev

Bev - found them and they are perfect. At £16.99 what a bargain? I will get them next time I go to Lakeside in readiness for the big move! :D :D :D

Did you see the winnie the pooh storage boxes as well? They are a good size too :D

I have a *need* to be near my PC when Scrapping so am quite happy for the area to be an extension off my office and as Chris has his hobby of Model Boat Building - we are hoping to have a double sized area which we can share - but keep separate :)

I am finding lots of his stuff is really useful too - tools wise, so need to keep on the good side of him ;)

Thanks for your help - as always :D

I have the Crop n style Jr. tote. I purposefully bought it because I made myself a promise that I would not own more supplies then I could store in it. I am quickly moving to the Crop n Style XXL and passing my Jr. to my DDIL. It's not that I have grown out of the jr. It is because once it is packed it is verrry heavy. I want the roll and pull ability of the XXL. I am sure it will be much easier on my back. I think that I will eventually get a separate tote for paper but at the moment I keep my paper inside my tote.

Chessie that is too funny! I remember when you posted you would only buy enough stuff to fit the bag! I thought that was a great plan! I adopted it too! HA! Now I am wanting something bigger and on wheels! Because it is so heavy! and I keep picking up stuff here and there!
I do love it and it does hold almost everything right now. Justdoesn't hold my big box of pictures!

I have an area set up in our bedroom. I gave up a basement craft room because I never used it. My husband made a home theater out of it. I couldn't scrap in the basement. It didn't "feel" right - if you know what I mean. And now, My scrapping area is just one room away from the computer room - so it's much better for me.

Here are pictures to my set-up. Since this is the wall I see when I wake up - I wanted it to look nice & be organized; but hide as much as possible. I really like how it turned out. Some people on another board call it the "curtain room". LOL

I don't have anything for the road - since I only scrap at home.

HiSplshMtn99

I have seen your pictures before via another site (Two peas??) and thought how great it was - all compact yet very good use of space :)

In fact, I have made notes to adopt a couple of your ideas for when we move into our new house - I hope you didn't mind :) - the rod across the top of two units to creat a valance especially.

I just didn't realise you posted here too :D :D

Hi Janice. Don't think I've ever posted them on 2 Peas -- I go there to look, but haven't posted anything there yet. Someone could have linked to them though.

I used to have them on PhotoPoint, then on WebShots, now on Epson.

The only other place I post about scrapbooking is on AOL's scrapbooking board --- and on there, I'm "jmasury". The AOL people are the ones who named it "Curtain Room". LOL

I like the arrangement because it is modular. We can move it all if we need too. (I want to mention that the shelf above the table is NOT screwed into the tall cabinets - it's just attached to the wall. I did not want to damage the cabinets in case they were ever used differently & you might see that side.) It already got moved from the basement once. And the function totally changed at that time. It didn't store as much craft stuff back then.

Glad to share. I hope you can use some ideas. My DH says I should go into business organizing people & their stuff. LOL Either that, or a WDW travel agent. :D

We live in a condo, so space can be a premium sometimes. My neighbors are always taking my ideas. LOL My motto: THINK VERTICAL! I hang things on garage walls or from the garage ceilings. Shelves in the attic. Backs of doors or behind doors. Closets shelves all the way to the ceiling. $30 closet makeover doubled my rod space & got me wall storage & everything off the floor. Tall pieces of furniture. DH built a hutch to add to our computer desk to raise the printer & scanner to still have desk space.......... stuff like that. We have alot of stuff like everyone else. I just don't like to see it. A place for everything & everything in its place. :)

Wow - what a great space. I want a space in my dining room to work, but since it will be a public area in the house (it's open plan, so I can't even close the door on the mess), I am thinking of using some cupboards to house everything. that it brilliant - I think I will print it out and show to my dh.

I need more of these vertical storage ideas, as we are moving to a smaller house next friday - and no I am not supposed to be on the Dis - I am supposed to be packing!

Bev

Bev, for more vertical storage ideas -- take a look at my "Around the Condo" photo album if you haven't already. http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=4002141&a=30069921&f=0&sp=1&showall=false

There's only a few vertical storage ideas shown there -- I can get you more pics if you wish.

In particular, look at picture #6 & 7 (desk); #16 (the last log cabin room picture) & the very last 2 pictures #29 & #30 (the garage). I have pictures of the other garage walls (why? not sure! ) you may get some ideas from if you want. I can also show you what I did to my closet.

Everyone, these ideas can all be used in scrapbooking storage too. Or you may be able to free up some space in your house to CREATE a scrapping area you thought you never had room for!

I just received the latest PaperKuts magazine and they have an article on starting a scrapping space. They start with a few basics and then show how to add on when needed.

I have a similar set up as to the article. I bought a tall 5 shelf bookcase with adj shelves. I use letter sized stacking paper trays for my cardstock and some small pull out shelves (2drawer each) to hold paper punches, rubber stamp items, adhesive and misc. On the lowest 2 shelves I store mags and binders. On the top shelf is my xyron and photo boxes with pics to scrap. I have an old kitchenette table with a formica top sitting perpendicular to the shelves. I just have to reach to the left to access the top 3 shelves but it is far enough away to access the lower 2 shelves too. Next to the bookshelf is an old microwave cart that holds lidded file boxes with my paper in (I use mainly 8 1/2 x/11) and misc items like chalks, pens, circle cutter. It is also large enough to lay my binders on that contain my scraps or templates. I use antique flower pots that I collect to hold my pens, erasers, cutters and rulers. This way I get to enjoy my collections and they are useful at he same time. The whole set up takes up approx 6' x 5' area of the family room. Opposite the scrap table is my desk that I use for girl scouts and sewing. A few steps away is the computer. Now I can scrap and be with the kids at the same time. (I admit I use their air hockey table for layouts but they don't seem to mind).
