Say it ain’t so. Now Matt Lauer

I find the shocked reactions of the hosts this morning hard to believe. Just read an article that detailed all of the allegations against him and how it was common knowledge among the show's staff. Executives ignored complaints for years. It's sad what men in power have been getting away with for so long now. Maybe the tides are turning. I'm not totally convinced of that yet though.

maybe they were shocked anything was actually done

I'm sure that was a huge part of it, but Savannah's line about how hard it is to reconcile your dear friend with their bad behavior gave the impression that she had no idea about it. I find that hard to believe.

The Variety article I read stated it was common knowledge among his staff not the general newstaff which is not to say the info couldn't leak past them. It also said that the incidents took place when he was away from the home office and off on assignment at places like the Olympics.
Whatever the truth of the matter is his wife seems to have him dead to rights should she wish to divorce him.

The article I read is posted as the top story on msn.com right now. It makes it sound like it was common knowledge among more than just his staff. Here's an excerpt: "Lauer’s conduct was not a secret among other employees at “Today,” numerous sources say. At least one of the anchors would gossip about stories she had heard, spreading them among the staff. “Management sucks there,” says a former reporter, who asked not to be identified, speaking about executives who previously worked at the show. “They protected the <edited> out of Matt Lauer.”

I had heard about Lauer having an affair a while back but I had also heard he was suing whoever wrote that..so from there I assumed he was a good husband. Guess I was wrong (or actually didn't keep up with news like this...)

It seems like we/us the general public we knew he was a bad seed. I like you find it hard to believe she was able to turn a total blind eye to it.

That's the exact same line Gail King said after Charlie Rose was fired. It got Gail a lot of sympathy. So, I'm not surprised Savannah would remember to use it, too.

Supposedly Mrs. Lauer accompanied Matt to the London olympics because she couldn't trust him to behave himself.

He was making some $25 million per year -- tough job but somebody had to do it. I hope his wife scores a huge divorce settlement.

I said the same a few pages back. But I will say this... What do we expect the Savannahs and the Hoda’s to do though? He’s known for getting people fired, is treated like a god, is the ratings leader and paid over 20 million a year. These people know if Matt Lauer wants them gone they will be gone. I blame the execs, the head honchos... the people who knew of his predatory behaivour and covered it up as long as he kept bringing in the money. The people who had the power to control him .I see his coworkers as just more of his victims. Why should they lose their jobs because he’s a predator?
I’ll bet we’re about to hear more about why Ann Curry hated his guts.

Ann didn't care for him because he got her fired.

Well, yes except for he was already fired at that point. Maybe they will feel more comfortable having an honest discussion about it in the future.

I saw an interview earlier on Erin Burnett with Jane Hanson and another woman who worked with him (can't remember who at the moment). All 3 said they had no idea. They said they knew he had a reputation for sleeping around but none knew any of it was harassment or not consensual. Who knows, it could be true.

If I had got to choose my dream team for Today it would Lester and Hoda. Brian Williams back the evening news and Jenna with Kathie Lee. Savannah who cares.
Oh, I just Love Lester. I think he really knows how to deliver a story. It would be great to see him as Lauer’s replacement.

This is what I was thinking, that maybe he had a reputation for being a jerk/player, not anything more serious. That could be why everyone was so shocked.

A statement from Matt Lauer: "There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry."
