A quick question.

Disney have a "credit" offer of "up to $1500 or more" (a bit of an ambiguous statement). :confused3

Does anybody know what this offer means?

Hi,
DVC have offered purchaser's an amount per point to "buy back" the first years allocation of points and put this money towards the deposit if you use their finance (or off the total if you pay in full) This sounds like they are offering $10 per point multiplied by 150 points equals $1500. If you don't need to use the first years points this can be a good deal (if you already have plans in place for that year for example) We used it when we did an add on at Vero Beach although they were offering $15 per point at that time.

I don't necessarily know if what Mick says is correct. What I can tell you is that we bought DVC at Saratoga Springs last week. We bought 200 points and what we got was a 10% credit off the total cost ($2020) plus we have 200 points available for use from 6th March (we have a September use year but, from what I understand, we cannot use the points before March as the unit is not actually available yet - or something like that).

I guess what I'm saying is that you will still get your first year's points as well as the $10 per point credit.

It's probably because you won't actually complete (or close as the American's say) on the ownership until then. When we bought in October, we actually closed on something like 16th December. However, Deb reckons we were told the same thing - that the unit itself wouldn't be ready, which I suppose makes sense.

Seems odd that you have a September use year to me, would've thought it would be March as that's when you complete.

That having been said, it is all new to me too!:confused3

Just spoke to a very nice gentleman in the sunny US of A.

Presently the cost per point at the SSR is $101. If you take their finance or pay in full they're offering $91 per point. Also, as an added bonus, they're giving you the 2006 Use Year points. You can name your Use Year, so if you chose August for example, you would be able to use your "free" 2006 points up to 31st July or bank them for "next" year (Aug 2007 - Jul 2008).

However, the cost per point is going up to $104 as from 5th March.

So now the big question. I've only ever seen pictures of the SSR and was going to look around it in October when we're out there. Should I be Del Boy "he who dares Rodney" and buy into DVC now to take advantage of the present offers - basically buying blind, or should I wait until after I've been in October?:confused3

If it was me #I would buy now as you would be saving the money omn Pop as well
Plus the dollar is at a good rate now
you never know when it will change

but then Disney might come along with a better offer next week
who knows

We bought blindly - we are in Ireland and can't buy directly from Disney unless we are there in person so we bought a re-sale without ever having stayed at or seen a DVC property.

I'd buy now and take advantage of the offer plus - if you buy now and already have your October trip planned you can bank this years points to give yourself double next year also the exchange rate is good now, who knows what it might be like in 8 months time.

We took the SSR tour after we bought so you can still do that in October.

Hi,
Not sure if you are intending using Disney's finance but if not you can pick up a Saratoga Springs resale for about $80 per point. There will be some closing costs to pay but it would still work out cheaper than Disney. Might be worth considering.

Have you also considered Animal Kingdom Lodge with its extra 3 years?

As I'm 48 coming up to 49 I don't think I'll be around to benefit from the extra 3 years.:lmao:

Also, the idea of a shared resort with a hotel is not one I'm in favour of, and the location of AKL is a little restrictive. I don't think non members can buy into AKL yet either.
