Three of us will be flying in from North Carolina. Can anyone tell me about their expierences with the Sanford Airport and transportation to Disney World? It seems that ticket prices are cheeper; from Greenesboro to Sandord being almsot $200 cheeper. But the added fees of getting back and forth to Disney World may negate the savings. I would apppreciate any comments. Thank you!

Transportation is going to cost you $200 round trip. If the difference is only $200, fly into MCO and take DME. You'll same time and trouble.

Transportation costs are high because of the distance & time it takes.
Rental car rates there are generally higher than MCO
Every time I've rented a car there, there have been huge lines at all the car rental counters. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

You are wise to consider the additional costs before booking your flights. In my experience, sometimes it makes sense to fly into Sanford and sometimes it does not. We've flown into Sanford two times and I rented a car both times. The total cost was about $300 less than flying into MCO both times and I also made sure to check that the airline (I think it was Allegiant both times) had flights that were returning to my airport the next day (which wasn't a guarantee of anything, but I felt a little better). Depending on the carrier you're looking at, they sometimes have very limited schedules and, if there is a problem, can't put you on another flight for quite some time. If you don't have flexibility, go with a legacy into MCO.

The Sanford airport is small and easy to navigate. The lines at the car rental agencies can get long, but not unmanageable. If you do rent a car, go get your car first and then get your bags.

I must have been very lucky...I have never had to wait in a line for more than 5 mins.
I love flying into Sanford. Sad to say, it's not an option for us anymore. It's a very user friendly airport. The drive to WDW is very easy!!!
