Here's an update, from HLN, who interviewed one of his lawyers, Karl Rominger, this morning. (Not quoted verbatim...)
First, he said that JS didn't need handcuffs or to be held by force as he left the courthouse, because "that's Jerry Sandusky cooperating with the process" Wow...swell guy!

What did they think he'd do, break free and run, and get caught by an angry mob who'd beat him to death?
Jean Casarez: Once he's sentenced, do we expect him to be in the general population?
Lawyer: PA will send him to a diagnostic facility, where he will be classified to determine where he will spend his time. Will probably be held in some sort of limited fashion there and not in general population until he's classified. Once he's classified, they'll most likely find him to be a sex offender (ya think??) and he'll be sent to one of the state prison sex offender facilities which means he'll be with people with similar sex charges.
Jean Casarez: What were his last words to Dottie?
Karl Rominger: Knew beforehand that goodbyes in the courthouse would not be allowed, so he said his goodbyes beforehand...prayed with the family, said goodbye to his dogs. For some people that might be a silly point and say who cares what Jerry Sandusky wanted to do. Dottie has been with him for over 40 years and loves him, truly. She's most concerned that Jerry suffers from a form of sleep apnea and uses a C-Pap and the last time he spent a night in prison, the prison wouldn't allow the C-Pap and he had to sleep sitting up. They're worried that the C-Pap won't be allowed in and he'll have to spend a lot of time sitting up or risk heart damage from the sleep apnea. (Um...not feeling much sympathy here.)
