Sand and Sun ~ Trip Number Ten Was Lots of Fun! Clearwater Beach & YC, August 2013

Aww......your baby is turning 12!! I know that's hard to believe! Just from the time I've been knowing you, it is hard for me to believe, too. When I first started reading your TR's, he was just a little thing!

Well, I hope his birthday was awesome! Of course, he spent half of it at school, but I hope the second half was awesome.


What I really can't believe is that my baby turns 26 in less than 2 weeks!

I know, it's crazy how the time is just flying by!

We celebrated his birthday last weekend. We knew this weekend would be taken up with Homecoming stuff. So last Saturday we took him to this favorite restaurant and to Target for the new Disney Inifinity game and a huge Lego set of course! Then we did cupcakes and ice cream for his birthday!

My baby turned 12 in June. I feel like he just started kindergarten.... Where does the time go???

My oldest DS is a junior in HS. OMG that is stressful! Lol I can't believe we have to start thinking about college this year. UGH!!!!

After Test Track we stopped into Mouse Gears. DS12 found a shirt that he really liked, but we decided to wait a few days before buying it in-case he found something he liked more.

We headed back towards WS, the kids wanted some some ice cream in waffle cones! We stopped here for some pics.

Just as the kids were walking up for me to take their pic right there, this man walked right in front of them. And then proceeded to take like 28 pictures of Spaceship Earth! We waited. And waited. Then the kids thought it would be funny to get a pic with the guy in it!

And finally, he left!!

Then we made our way to the Promenade Snack stand and got some ice cream!

It was about 8:20 and I wanted to stay for IllumiNations, but the boys weren't interested so we headed back to the YC and I watched it from the balcony! How wonderful. I sure could get used to this view every night. I could only hear the music a little bit that evening, but on other nights it was much easier to hear. Must just depend on how the wind is blowing!

That man in your picture! The way I take pictures, I've probably been 'that guy' to someone before...

I am loving that room more and more! What a beautiful view at night! So I want to know... other than the issues you had with the cot, did you like the YC? It seems like a beautiful resort. Would you stay there again?

Did you get that discount for your January trip that came out yesterday? I'm still wondering if any AE's are going to be released for that time period???

We did like the YC a lot and and would probably stay there again.
I think next time we stay in the Epcot area we will probably pick the BWI though, we just always end up spending more time over there. Plus we like the pool better over there! But yes, all in all we really liked the YC, other than the rollaway situation and housekeeping. But we had a bad experience with housekeeping at the BC, so we half expected it here too. Luckily our room was pretty clean when we got there.

I was already booked on the Stay, Play, and Dine package, I got a PIN code for it back in July. I did get a booking from it this morning though! Hoping to get a few more when it goes to the public Tuesday. I'll email you about the AE's!

Great report. Makes me anxious to get there. We live about 45 mins south of Clearwater and I enjoyed your report. Our beaches are a little less busy a little more laid back. Check out Anna Maria Island sometime. You will love it.

Yes, that is a great hallway at the YC and you can't beat the secret elevator and door coming out right by the boat dock!

OMG it's like you got photobombed by that man!!! How ridiculous!!
Some people either have the Me First Attitude or they are none the wiser. Maybe both?

I got photobombed twice this trip! The first one was in the airport by some freaky dude when I was taking Drew's pic at the baggage claim. He popped his head in and I gave him this mad look and he laughed and started talking about staying in Orlando with a friend and asking where we were going. M looked at him with the death glare and he walked off. Totally strange.
The second time I got photobombed I was on Main St in the MK right after opening, taking pics of the windows near the barber shop (this was my cabana day!!) and just as I snapped the pic, I heard this guys voice and felt air rushing right past me and he said TaDa as he jumped into my view. I was so dang mad and I looked up and it was PETER PAN!! Wendy and Alice were right behind him and they apologized to me for ruining the pic. It was too cute.


Glad the boys were finally able to take their pictures with the pretty sun going down. I hope freak man's pictures didn't turn out for him. Ooh did I say that???

That ice cream always looks so dang good!!

And I agree-- that view was amazing!! It was incredible that you were able to see Illuminations every night. Perfect!

Hey there! I took a tiny break from the Dis, so I was really behind on updates. I went back the past few pages, and all I can say is

The pictures of Epcot are making me so homesick, I just can't wait to get back.

We are at 185 days, and this week I have been planning the ADR's I am going to make for April and what groceries we will be getting for the room.

We decided on Via Napoli and O'hana!

I can't wait!! It's been a few trips since we have been to O'hana and it's always a favorite of ours. I am excited to take a stop over at the Poly too, because it's also been a while since we have been over there.

So -

DS14 has a GF!? CRAZY! How was Homecoming? Or is it tomorrow? Post pics!!

P.S - Thanks for the tip on the rental car, I have been watching and I forgot that we bought an entertainment book this year. I looked through there and found a 'free weekend day' coupon for Alamo and for Sat at 9am - Monday at noon it would be $156. I still think it's expensive, but it's the best I have found so far. I may just book it and then keep watching. But, worst case scanerio I am OK paying that if I have to.


ETA: Nope, I lied. I just tried to book with my coupon and it is only giving me that price if I return the car to the same location It literally doubles the price since I am not returning it to the same location. BLAH.

Sounds like you are getting things in order for your April trip! We are thinking about giving Via Napoli another try. We went once before and didn't care for it. We love Ohana! Good choice!

Yep, he's had a girlfriend all summer. But they mostly just text. So I guess this is their first real date. Hard to believe. Not sure where the last 14 years went!


That's the hard part with the rental - picking up in one place and returning to another. The rates were ridiculously high at first for me. They will come down though! I ended up at $85 for a Sat-Mon rental.

Beginning October 31, Walt Disney World will have a new restaurant cancelation policy in place. For all table service restaurant reservations, guests will have to provide a credit card hold. If the reservation needs to be canceled, but isn't done one day in advance, a $10 per person charge will be made to the card. This policy is in place for both Disney owned and operated restaurants, as well as operating participants.

Some locations require pre-payment, such as Hoop-Dee-Do Musical Revue and Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show; this system is already in place. If these reservations aren't canceled one day in advance, the full amount will be charged.

Reservations must be canceled up to 11:59 pm the day before the reservation to avoid the charge. To cancel, guests can call 407-WDW-CNCL, stop by any table service restaurant front desk, or call 407-WDW-DINE. Reservations can also be made and canceled online at www.DisneyWorld.com/Dining.

The policy has changed in the hopes of reducing the number of no shows and to allow more guests the opportunity to dine at the table service locations.

If reservations were booked prior to October 31, they will not be held to the new policy, unless modifications are made after October 31.

We are contemplating our spring break trip to Disneyland and maybe switching to something cheaper (driving to FL). Or more expensive (Hawaii). It's less than 6 months away and we still don't know what we're doing! Weird for us! I've just been too busy and tired to think about it! That's horrible! I've been AWOL from the DIS too and I miss it! So today I'm relaxing on the couch, amazingly with nowhere to go until after dinner and I am catching up! I may even finish my HHI TR so I can start Alaska. If I don't get going soon, I'll never do it!

Anywho, 14 and going to the homecoming dance? with a GIRL? OY.

I'm so glad my DD12 thinks the boys are weird and not cute. At least that's what she says now.

I do that too, everytime we have a DL trip planned we end up going back to WDW! Going through it for next summer.... Not sure what to do. At this point I feel like if we don't just bite the bullet and do it now, we are never going to do it. Not while the kids are still at home anyway! Plus I'm thinking that the Poly will be a mess next summer, and that's where I wanted to stay.... IDK!! It's too hard to decide!

I wish we could go to Hawaii, but the airfare is just too much.
