Does anybody like this restaurant?
We are thinking of trying it on our next trip, but it seems to get bad reviews.
If you do like it, what did you order?

We are going to Le Cellier and Chefs de France in the same trip.

We need one more TS for Epcot. We have eaten at Coral Reef and Alfredo's twice and both were good, but want to try some other places.
I am sure we would not like Marrakesh or Nine Dragons.

Teppanyaki is not open when we are going.

We love this place. It is deffinately not On the Border, or Taco Bell, but it is beautiful, and the food is good. My favorite appetizer in all of WDW is at San Angel, Ceviche- if you like seafood, don't miss this!

I'm not sure whether you'll have children with you or not. We tried it on a whim during our Spring Break trip this year. We had thought with our picky eating children it would not be an option, but surprisingly - we all loved it.

My DS (11) had the sirloin steak, which he loved. It's probably not a steak I would have loved, but he devoured it. My DH and I split the tacos and my girls split the nachos. We weren't too adventurous, but did get a bit of a mexican fix while there and we can't wait to try it again.

I've been there twice, and been underwhelmed by the food both times. It's a very nice location but for me the food is not up to snuff. Hope you like it.

We ate there last November and we loved it! I had the combination Cozumel and it was excellent! My kids loved watching the boats go by. It was one of our best meals the whole trip. We have ADR's already for our next trip!:thumbsup2

I'm so glad you asked about this restaurant and even happier to read these reviews. We have an ADR there for our trip in October. Our son has always wanted to try it and since he will be celebrating a birthday we decided to surprise him by taking him there.

Im not a big fan of the food. its awesome inside though to sit with the volcano and all that. everytime i eat there...i get an upset stomach that night

I think I've eaten about everything they have that isn't seafood and always like it. :) DH likes it, too - but he likes everything. Two thumbs up. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

...my kids don't care for it. If it isn't Taco Bell, they aren't touching it. Should've seen their faces the first time they saw black beans. :lmao: They kind of pick at it. But I'm one of those moms who says, "Eat it or be hungry; I don't care. Just shut up about it." :)

Back in 02 when I was a CP I loved it! In fact, I used to have cravings for the nachos. Unfortunately, I haven't been back since then, but I plan on going on my next trip. It seems to be hit or miss with most people. For me, it was always a hit...at least 5 years ago.

This is a family tradition for us. We go every year and have never been disappointed in the food. The Ceviche appetizer is very good and the Combinacion Cozumel is great. The arroz con lech is good too but I want to try the white chocolate bread pudding at our ADR's this year. And make sure to order the fiesta margarita - YUM.

Blessed Be,
Tina

There seems to be mixed reviews on this place.
If we don't try it, any other suggestions for us?

You've done Coral Reef and Alfredo's and are doing Le Cellier and Chefs de France. You don't want to try Marrakesh or Nine Dragons and can't go to Teppanyaki. If you skip San Angel Inn, all that is left is Germany or Norway...take your pick.

We ate their last year DW, DD, & I all enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. If you don't try it you will only know that other people like or don't like the food!

We love it at the San Angel Inn!!! We have returned many times. I usually order the Filet Monteblno (spelling???) The food has always been terrific when we went, and the atmosphere is wonderful!

Was the filet good?

I think we will try it as we want to try some different places.

Thanks for all of the replys.

Many people go to San Angel thinking they like 'Mexican' food based on their experiences from their home town. San Angel is more authentic than what you'd find in a typical national chain Mexican restaurant. If you are used to Tacos, Burritos, Chimichangas, Enchiladas etc. then San Angel is certainly not for you.

On the other hand, if you love good true Mexican food then San Angel is excellent. Nice atmosphere as well although tables were a bit tight on last visit. I think that was because they were redoing the boat ride so some tables were taken out.

Love it. Love it. Love it. San Angel is the ONE restaurnat that we always MUST go to while in WDW. I think it has very good, authentic mexican. Not at all like Taco Bell or On the Border.. That stuff you can make at home with taco mix and cheese.. We have tried the filet, chicken, tortilla soup, nachos, and much more, and always walked out of there stuffed, and extremely satisfied. :thumbsup2

I would only eat there again for the atmosphere, the service and food were horrible when we went last september. I can get better mexican food in NC.

EDIT* I do agree that it's more authentic mexican food, therefore some people (like myself) may not like it. I need my americanized queso! ;)

I have to disagree with that. I have eaten at many locations in Mexico off the beaten path as well as resort places, the food at San Angel pales in comparison to them. My own Mexicantown restaurants in Detroit, which are frequented, owned and run by Latinos is way better as well.

My steak dinner had fricken a frozen pea / carrot vegetable side that was definitely not fresh, it was frozen. My wife's chicken was bland and overdone. If that's authentic, then count me out. Like I've said, beautiful location, average food at the best.

Hate to sound the complainer, but I have eaten there twice and each time I have been disappointed.

my boyfriend and I ate there last september and got the vegetarian combination plate. It was very very good. I was REALLY impressed. Of course there was so much food it was not likely I could finish it all. I would definately recommend that though. Here are our pictures:

Nachos appetizer this was OK but the actual chips could be better (i.e. not from a bag):

vegetarian combination plate, this was a cheese enchilada, a vegetable and bean burrito (very good sauce on this!), and spanish rice:

dessert was some sort of bread pudding with caramel sauce, it was good except for there were too many raisins:

hope that helps.
