san angel inn

my boyfriend and I ate there last september and got the vegetarian combination plate. It was very very good. I was REALLY impressed. Of course there was so much food it was not likely I could finish it all. I would definately recommend that though. Here are our pictures:

Nachos appetizer this was OK but the actual chips could be better (i.e. not from a bag):

vegetarian combination plate, this was a cheese enchilada, a vegetable and bean burrito (very good sauce on this!), and spanish rice:

dessert was some sort of bread pudding with caramel sauce, it was good except for there were too many raisins:

hope that helps.

Do you remember if the there were mushrooms in anything?
I think the veggie dinner sounds great. Was this on the menu or did you have to ask for it?

We love, love, love San Angel Inn! We've eaten there quite a few times since our first trip in 1997 and have always had terrific food and service. DD (now 8) enjoys it, too. Over the years, some items have changed, but from the current menu, we've had these items and enjoyed them:

-Fiesta Margarita (Ole!)
-Ceviche (DH loves it)
-Sope Tradicional (my favorite appetizer)
-Combinacion Cozumel (DH and my Dad loved it in 2003)
-Plato Mexicano (delicious)
-DD always has the kids' burrito - she loves it

No desserts - we're always too full!

Try it for yourselves...even if you don't love it, at least you'll know for the future - and definitely make an ADR for this place - it's always crowded, even during traditionally slow times of year.

San Angel is one of my favorites! We dine there every trip.

I have found that they can be inconsistent in both service and food. When they're good, they're excellent. When they're bad...it's bad. Fortunately, the good has outweighed the bad, so we keep going back.

As a matter of fact, we'll be eating there next Saturday night! Can't wait!

we ate there last year and thought it was horrible... i had 2 bites of my meal (cant remember it) and couldent eat any more of it b/c there was soooo much cilantro. plus my diet coke tasted like it was spiked... and very strongly spiked. the only good thing i have to say about it was that the atmosphere was great.

Sorry, but that just looks like scary food.

There seems to be mixed reviews on this place.
If we don't try it, any other suggestions for us?
That is because people have different definitions of what Mexican Food entails. Some think Americanized Mexican Food is it...like Taco Bell, Taco John's etc....American junk food. Even when you get past this there are ethnic regions of Mexico that define what ingredients are used and at what intensity...just like you find in Italian Food. Geographical region prepare the food differently.

San Angel Inn has a very nice cool-night time setting, but would note the tables are a little close. We find the food to be pretty good which varies by what you select on the menu...like anywhere. Overall, if you have children around 2-8 years old there is a chance they may fall asleep. If you have not tried San Angel Inn and you do not define Mexcian food by Taco Bell, I would recommend that you give it a try.

Not to belabor this point but while diffferent regions of Mexico are different in food style, San Angel does not do any of those regions justice. I have have food from one coast to the other and in between in Mexico, not eating at tourist spots all the time. I am not talking Taco Bell or chain restaurant food, I am talking the real deal. San Angel doesn't cut it.

If you like the food there than bully for you. I think the food is below average for Disney and below average for Mexican food. Even in the good reviews, people have stated it's hit and miss, that should tell you something. It is a beautiful location, however the food doesn't deliver the same wow factor for me. People should be aware of that when deciding to eat there.

The biggest thing I didn't like about San Angel is how dark it is. When you can't see your food or read the menu, it is too dark, IMHO.

We went in May and it was actually better than I though it would be. It's always good to try something at least once. Happy Dining!!:)

Was the filet good?

I think we will try it as we want to try some different places.

Thanks for all of the replys.

Yes, the filet was very delicious! It was a very large portion, and the meat was so tender, it melted in my mouth! It was served with beans, cheese and fried plantains. It is a very yummy dish! :thumbsup2

Just ate at San Angel Inn for the first time. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews on here, but it was definitley worth it. Others have already said it, but it's so true- don't go into it expecting taco bell or tex-mex. San Angel serves authentic Mexican food, which is totally different. My DH loves mexican food and anything spicy, which is why we ate there. I, on the other hand, am a wimp when it comes to hot food. I had nothing to worry about. I had the camarones con fideos (shrimp in a tomato sauce over angel hair pasta)- it was wonderful! Not spicy at all, but yet tasted mexican. I was so impressed!
The atmosphere was beautiful- a little too dark to see what I was eating, but it made me less aware that the restaurant was packed to capacity and the next table was 6 inches away. A word of caution though- San Angel for dinner definitley requires a reservation- we saw tons of people turned away while we were waiting for out table.

I ate there a few years ago for lunch and I really liked it. The ambience was beautiful and the food was good.

We have eaten at SAI several times and always found the food to be just average. I would recommend Le Cellier, Rose & Crown Pub or Chef's de France instead. I always say though that you should give each place a try and judge for yourselves.

I like this restaurant very much for its ambience - the food has always been ok for me. It is definitely an experience, hope you enjoy!

I have to reply to this because the Mexico pavillion is pretty much my favorite place in EPCOT... I've eaten at the San Angel Inn once.. and it was many years ago... maybe back in 95/96? and to be honest, I remember thinking the food wasn't that great... I can't tell you exactly why because it's been so long .. and I do think I ate the food .. but it wasn't spectacular... I think it was just decent. (at the time, maybe they've improved since then)..

BUT.. honestly, it's worth it to go here at least once for the ambiance. I LOVE the inside of the Mexico pavillion .. it's so beautiful and relaxing and romantic.... I'd be willing to try it again just for the atmosphere!

good luck!

We ate here a week ago and we really loved it. We had three kids with us and they had no trouble finding something on the menu they really liked.

Honestly, I liked the food here more than Le Cellier. :thumbsup2 The service was lousy, but the food was wonderful. The only thing we didn't like was the chips (out of a bag) and salsa (from a jar). But, the rest of the food was very good. You should definitely give it a try. :thumbsup2

I haven't eaten there but after reading a vegetarian thread and seeing the yummy combo and taking a peek at the menu, I added it to our ADR'
s last week.

I think it will be something we'll enjoy.

This has to be one of my favorites places to eat... the food and atmosphere is wonderful. I do love Mexican food, and everytime we've eaten there we've never ate anything bad! GO GO GO... you will not be dissapointed!
