San Angel Inn opinions !!

I LOVE this place. Haven't been since they've made all of the changes but can't wait to try the new appetizers and, of course, the "old" margaritas.

Not sure about the long tables though.... I've always thought the atmosphere was intimate and romantic. Don't know how romantic it will be sitting at a table with a dozen other people....

Okay, when we went last week the tables weren't all together like the picture. They were just all lined up the same direction instead of kinda catty/corner(?) like they used to be. We were at a table for 6 & next to us a party of 3 were at a smaller table for 4. There was room to walk between the tables for different diners.

The Tostadas de Tinga are soooo good. There are three to a plate and although they're an app I get it as an entree with some chips and guacamole on the side. Can't wait to head back on our next trip for this, some Don Julio Reposado and a Blood Orange Margarita. :thumbsup2

We went about 3 weeks ago and had our best meal there for years. We were originally supposed to go to La Hacienda de San Angel, which I loved when we went in December. However, Pepe at La Cava convinced me to try the Inn instead, saying that the new chef was really excellent. I took his advice and was so glad that I did!

We were seated almost immediately, one row back from the water. The tables were further apart than they used to be, and were also better lit. The lack of light used to be a major source of complaints for the restaurant, and it was nice to see that they had addressed this without going too far the other way - it still had the same intimate, romantic atmosphere.

I started with the Coctel de Camaron, which was lovely and fresh. The tomato sauce wasn't too spicy, just full of flavour. DH had the Tostadas de Tinga which was excellent. The chicken was incredibly moist and there was lots of it - I can definitely see having this as a main course like Anne did above. The marinade had a hint of smokiness which I loved.

For main course we both had the sirloin. This was absolutely delicious - juicy, full of flavour and cooked exactly as requested. We had dinner at Le Cellier a few days later, but the steak at San Angel beat it hands down purely on flavour. The portions were big; neither of us was able to finish our main course. We rarely take leftover food back to the resort since it tends to end up in the bin, but this time we did. It was so good we just couldn't let it go to waste, we had steak sandwiches for breakfast the next morning and it tasted just as good then. :thumbsup2

The food in this restaurant has definitely had its ups and downs over the years. This meal was wonderful, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys Mexican food.

sounds like they have improved the food here...we will have to give it a try again. We took it off our list after three bad dining experiences in a row!

Yes, it was off our list for a long time too (the last time we went before August was in 2009 - disaster, hated it). Definitely worth a try now. :goodvibes
