We went about 3 weeks ago and had our best meal there for years. We were originally supposed to go to La Hacienda de San Angel, which I loved when we went in December. However, Pepe at La Cava convinced me to try the Inn instead, saying that the new chef was really excellent. I took his advice and was so glad that I did!
We were seated almost immediately, one row back from the water. The tables were further apart than they used to be, and were also better lit. The lack of light used to be a major source of complaints for the restaurant, and it was nice to see that they had addressed this without going too far the other way - it still had the same intimate, romantic atmosphere.
I started with the Coctel de Camaron, which was lovely and fresh. The tomato sauce wasn't too spicy, just full of flavour. DH had the Tostadas de Tinga which was excellent. The chicken was incredibly moist and there was lots of it - I can definitely see having this as a main course like Anne did above. The marinade had a hint of smokiness which I loved.
For main course we both had the sirloin. This was absolutely delicious - juicy, full of flavour and cooked exactly as requested. We had dinner at Le Cellier a few days later, but the steak at San Angel beat it hands down purely on flavour. The portions were big; neither of us was able to finish our main course. We rarely take leftover food back to the resort since it tends to end up in the bin, but this time we did. It was so good we just couldn't let it go to waste, we had steak sandwiches for breakfast the next morning and it tasted just as good then.
The food in this restaurant has definitely had its ups and downs over the years. This meal was wonderful, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys Mexican food.
