RV advice needed

I need some RV advice! We have actually never considered an RV until now. It has always been a "retirement thing!" Now we are thinking about it and our kids are 3, 3, 7, and 7. Why not now while we could all enjoy it??

Since I am not familiar with dealing, prices, pros and cons, where do I start? I have done a lot of surfing the web the last two days and I have learned some but I still think that there has to be a lot of wisdom out there from people who have RVs. One of many question I have is: Is a diesel worth the extra $ they cost. We don't have a big enough truck so we are looking at the Class A,B and C.

Any information and advice is so much appreciated!

Continue to surf the web. RV.Net is a good source for info. Become active and ask questions.

Do not buy on an impulse. Make an informed choice even if it takes weeks or months to come to that choice.

Diesels are the big boys of RVs. They have the power and carrying capacity (there are exceptions) that put them above a gas rig but the extra cost could play a role in your decision.

We started with a C when there were 4 of us and we now have an A for the 2 of us. With what we now know and how we feel in our rig, if we were to go back in time we would purchase an A instead of a C. That is just the way we feel but there are many who have a C and have 6 or more in their party.

Remember that a RV is an investment in family unity and fun.

We just got our new/used RV two months ago, I couldn't be more thrilled!!!!!!! We too have four children (13, 6, 4, 2) and had to go with a class C because the price of the class A that we would need to accomodate our family was just out of the question right now. I have always loved camping, just not the tent thing. I am sorry I cant give you more advise on pricing being a newbie myself I could only tell you what we paid. Hubby did some research, but not a lot before we found the one we both fell in love with. I really don't care if we paid to much or not. We offered a price we thought was fair and after a little haggling they agreed (we found out from our insurance company what the blue book value was and we did do well after all). That could be a tip if you are interested in one inparticular find out from your insurance company how much the blue book value is before you agree on a price. I do have to say I think when we do upgrade we will get a desiel pusher. They are more heavy duty and can carry a bigger load. One peice of advice I do have is watch your weights. You have six people in your family between that and all your items you will fill it with weight can be an issue. Some class C's won't hold as much weight as others.
