Hi all...

Are there any stores (this may be a naive question...we'll see! ) that sell real running shoes...not the fashion ones, but ones by Asics, Saucony and the like? Obviously the size system is different, but I'm running in the London Marathon shortly before we travel ( ) and I'm gonna need some new shoes...maybe they'll be cheaper...

Anyway...just thought I'd ask...don't plan on doing too much shopping (I know I say that now, going out there with an empty credit card!) 'cos we're 'coaster geeks really...but mebbe we could buy a 'coaster to bring home with us:hyper:

Congrats on getting a FLM place. A lot of my club run it annually but I've not plucked up the 26.2 level of courage yet. I did GNR last year and will be training for the Plymouth Half when I go to Florida. Got a hotel with a jogging trail....dunno how I'll cope with running in circles constantly mind you!

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I'm interested in an answer. I need some new Asics GT2080's, or the updated design, so it might be the place to get them.

Hi Keswick...

Firstly, well done on your running...I've done the GNr 3 times now and London is just as fun...if a little longer. I'm running for the British Lung Foundation this year. Ran 2003 as well, so glutton for punishment! Good luck with Plymouth!

Do you live in Keswick or do you just have an affinity with the place? I envy anyone so lucky enough to live in the Lakes... I would be out running every day in that scenery:)

Anyway...let's hope someone can answer our question!

Actually, its an old nickname! I couldn't live further from the lakes but in just as beautiful an area for running..Cornwall.

In fact just in from my Sunday run. Cold, but so clear and crisp. Beautiful.

If no one else can help I am going to Orlando in early March so will let you know if I find any outlets when I am there. Is there a particular style you wear, or are you looking for one of those shops with the running predictor machines that advises a style for you ?

Good luck with the training!

:teeth:

Hi Keswick and everyone:wave:

I wear Saucony (Grid Triumph...the newest ones).

Hope yu have a grand time in March...if you're at US, tell them to get Revenge of the Mummy going for the end of April!:hyper:

Try Foot Locker there was one in Belz but a search on google will probably throw up more places .they have a wide range of different shoes .

Hi,

Another runner here - (since 1985) - done many runs over the years including Gt North, Gt South run, 7 sisters cross-country marathon etc etc.

Going back to Florida at Easter and in desperate need for new shoes.

Previous trips have shown mainly "fashion" trainers with only a few "proper" running shoes and scarcely any for cross-country.

Take or have a price guide with you as they aren't the big bargains that they once were.

I'd be willing to bet that there's a serious running shoe store in Orlando. Why don't you guys post this over on the big Community Board?

I went out to run the WDW half marathon in January and was also after ASICs but couldn't find anywhere in Belz, Premium, florida Mall or Mall of Millenia that even sold them, let alone that could tell me what shoe would stop my endless knee problems!. But did get some seriously cheap (but good) Reebok and Nikes to tide me over at Belz! If you get to chance to run the WDW race (the half and full are on in January but they fill up fast) go for it: you run through all four parks, there's characters en route, the medal is fantastic - and no-one starts a race like Donald Duck trust me! Good luck in London!

Generally speaking I have always had the impression that the the Sports Stores in Orlando are nothing special.
The ones that you see in the malls tend to specialize in Basketball and Baseball clothing.

There is a 'Sports Dominator' store on I-drive that is probably the best although it's a couple of years since I have been in.
Would have thought Foot Locker would have been the best bet, cannot remember whether there is one in the Florida Mall.

That, along with London, are the only two marathons that would appeal to me as a firsttimer. I need a great race like that to encourage me to go for the training dedication required!

Unfortunately, as an accountant January is the very month I can't get away. Unless they change the tax deadline date.

I'm currently "toying" with the idea of the Disney marathon for 2005 or 2006 at the moment.

To be honest I'm in no shape at the moment but it'd be a great incentive if I did get in.

The start time of "the crack of dawn" looks daunting though!

Perhaps I could persuade DW to do the half-marathon?

I must admit getting up at 3am was a bit strange- but have you ever slept properly the night before a race? the funniest thing was at about 3.10 all the showers in the hotel started running and the toilets were flushing - lord knows how anyone not running stayed asleep! The 6am start wasnt so bad - I no longer live in the UK and it's so hot here that races tend to start about 6.30 anyway - but sitting in the epcot car park from 3.45 till the race start was not fun - it was zero degrees! Anyway, again, I'd firmly recommend it (plus the parks were empty the week before and after - no lines). the good news is there no qualification, you just enter on line - but you have to enter fast - it filled in 8 days last time. I was online at midnight US time the day it opened to make sure I got in - but I'm a bit sad!!!
