Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I would LOVE to go to Yellowstone! It actually seems possible that I'll have the opportunity to go there before RoL packages are released. ...
I went one summer. I drove cross country from the east coast to west and back again in 7 weeks (teacher here and I was single and childless at the time). I hit up like 20 national parks! My dad flew out to Seattle and met me to finish up the trip and we stayed a few nights in Yellowstone. Camped and tried a lodge. Great trip.

unless they are part of the show..."here comes the most realistic animal float"...
They have shut down Tom Sawyer Island at MK because of alligators in the water, there's no way to prevent them from entering, but as you said, they are often removed

Permanently or just at times when they've found alligators? Just checking because we love Tom Sawyer Island!

This gives me a visual of an alligator family marching up main street after hours...

That sounds amazing! Yellowstone is our plan for next summer, but probably not quite as long of a trip! Somehow I missed the blog post...

LOL!

Yeah, that's what I figured--Disney would monitor for it and do as you said. :) I'm sure they get in every body of water! Maybe I shouldn't assume Disney would take care of it immediately though.

... Disney could just give them an autograph stamp and roll with it!

woohoo! good idea, not sure even disney could put a magical spin on a gator visit.

first time seeing the seating area, wow - it really is small!
The pic is from wdwmagic, that's one side so 2500 seats...

not permanently, just when the gator is large enough and is out sunning. Here's avideo someone took a couple of years ago, of course, some idiots actually feed the animals, ugh

Oh that is so amazing! DH and I were high school sweethearts and we started saving up the summer after graduation to go to Yellowstone the following summer. Were planning to try to find a M-Th seasonal job and stay for a few months... but, alas, before summer arrived we were expecting DD.
Soo... I finally graduate (EDIT: from a university, not HS lol) next May, so we're hoping to save up for at least a two week trip! Probably not the best idea financially, but once we start paying back these student loans it may be a while before we can go.

Maybe the alligators will only be there on nights they've been able to score a dining package!

I know on the Beach and Yacht club thread, several folks have posted photos of the resident gators in the water channels... and I personally have seen snakes hiding in the rocks by the boat launches...

I know that there are snakes and bears, coyotes, wolves and big horned owls, bob cats, and many "preying" animals, here in Minnesota, just like anywhere else, especially in wooded forested areas, (we NEVER NEVER NEVER let our little dogs outside at night without being right there with them!), ....we're more afraid of the ticks carrying Lyme disease up here!

My motto is "stay on the paths...don't go where you shouldn't"...be aware of your surroundings...!

yes they can. If you are in Fl expect there to be an alligator in every body of water, I have a small reservoir in my subdivision and they come out to sunbathe during the day, feets away from parked cars...
Yup.
Years ago my grandparents lived in Florida. Their house backed up to a canal. Grandpa used to carefully check for what he called "critters" but were actually alligators before he hopped on his riding lawn mower. Occasionally they would climb up the banks and sun themselves there. Not good to run into....

That was my off topic post for the day...now back to waiting for ROL news.

There is a large one in a backstage pond area near Space Mountain. They have tried relocating him several times, but he always finds his way back.

As far as during the show, I would expect that there will be enough of a disturbance they will stay away and the message will get out via gator word that that is no longer a good place.

Still, when you perform outdoors you have to be prepared. Snakes pretty regularly make appearances in Unto These Hills and The Lost Colony in NC. And it isn't a Shakespeare in the Park summer without appearances by raccoons!

So when watching fireworks on the beach at Poly, I should make sure there are a few people between us and the water, huh? :rolleyes1

I'm not sure what I would do if I saw a gator lying there. Where I am from we don't have gators. What are the odds of a gator actually killing someone? Do they attack often or just keep to themselves?

I'm from BC, Canada. We have the issue of Cougars coming into our communities and even right into the city. In Victoria recently there were a couple lazing in a yard in an area right by our Capitol buildings. Right In Downtown. Now THAT is a wild animal you do not want to run into when taking out your garbage!
