Rumor on possible new DVC resort

The location just doesn't make sense to me.

Plus a lot of people will want the newer units with two bathrooms in the one BRs, the older units will not seem nearly as attractive to families when you take that into account.

Couldn't agree with that more. We are die hard BW fans, but after our last stay at BLT, I love the newer floor plans with 2 full bathrooms (rather than that odd old-style setup) and an actual laundry room. It will be interesting to see where they build next, though non-bus park access is a huge plus. I can't imagine where else they would be able to jam something like that in.

VGC is rumoured to sell out before the end of summer. CMs in CA have already been briefed on a DVC tower going in at the DL Hotel which will be all DVC, but with the delays in bringing out WoC, the Little Mermaid Ride and Cars Land the construction has been put on hold. Evidently Californians are just starting to get on board with the whole DVC concept which could possibly lead to more demand at WDW.

.

As a VGC owner and 1st time DVCer, I am not interested in owning in Florida as I figure there will be some DVC unit open at the 7 month mark given just how many DVC properties are there. I do see your point though. I also think people who have bought at VGC LOVE their home resort. Almost all the comments I read are overwhelmingly positive. I think this will translate into more demand at disneyland from those owners (myself included)

I am currently in agony that VGC is almost sold out and really considering if another 50 point add on is possible right now (we started w the standard 160 pt contract, then added 50 at christmas) If I knew for sure, however, that a DVC tower was coming to the Disneyland hotel, especially in light of the major pool renovations coming there, I would save my money for that, no question. I really think California is going to prove that it CAN support more DVC units in the coming years.

Any new resort is going to have a lead time of at least 2 1/2 years--more if there is significant ground prep work required.

I can't speak to the validity of this rumor but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if something starts up by the end of the year. I don't see there being more than 3 years' worth of points left at Kidani + BLT.

And I agree with the poster who said that Disney needs to have something in the hopper at WDW. Sales volumes may not be quite what they were 18-24 months ago but prices are certainly higher and the economy is still in the crapper. I just don't see ANY evidence to suggest that Disney is running out of sales prospects for WDW resorts.

I do think another condo-style DVC (SSR, OKW) would be a mistake and the location doesn't sound particularly compelling. But, as always, the devil is in the details. I would have to reserve judgment until I know more.

I think Disney looks at plots of land that can easily be transformed to Hotel areas...On a majot road near adequate infatructre like power and water grids....The Blizzard Beach plot is ready to be developed..with little new infastructure needed.....

Locations like between the TTC and Contemp on the lagoon or across bay lake would cost millions extra to develop..

DVC is about maximizing profit so if the BB location is ready to go than thats where the new units will be.

I personally would love to see a resort next to Hollywood studios like the Hollywood Hotel (Art deco) in Hong Kong

http://park.hongkongdisneyland.com/hkdl/en_US/hotels/landing?name=HollywoodHotelLandingPage

it would be a perfect fit......near infastructure...boat to Epcot, walk to studios

But at the same time, the large campus resorts aren't as popular as the resorts associated with a Deluxe, which seems unlikely in this case.
I don't know so much about "associated with a Deluxe" as "has a convenience or feature that other places don't have." I don't think people care that, say, Kidani has Jambo next door. I also don't know that anyone at BCV really cares that BC/YC is next door as a cash resort. If the whole BCV/YC/BC complex were DVC units, that would be fine with the BCV fans. But, if you moved Epcot, well, the BCV fans would be apoplectic.

I don't know that Blizzard is enough of a draw. They might need to add some other features that make this hypothetical resort "special" enough to sell, much as the savannahs do at AKV. On the other hand, it doesn't seem like DVD had too much trouble selling SSR. Remember: DVD doesn't care so much about what existing members want or don't want. They care about what they can *sell*.

I do think another condo-style DVC (SSR, OKW) would be a mistake
Again, I'm not sure it would be that hard to sell such a development. On the other hand, a standalone DVC resort wouldn't have to be "condo style". You could build something more "hotel-style" (much as BLT and AKV are) without having to associate it with an existing resort.

and the location doesn't sound particularly compelling.
No, but there aren't many left that are. I like the art-deco resort near DS idea, but the park's entrance is landlocked by its parking lot and the water access. Likewise with AKV. Epcot area is just about cooked except for small expansions. And, there's no need to go back to the MK well already.

Even so, this location is pretty central to the rest of the resort.

Bummer! I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I'd love another off-site resort, but more northern-Colorado, northern New York, someplace cooler.

We bought direct in April and our guide told us that they where forecasting to be sold out for AKV, BLT and VGC within a year even with the economy downturn. In the case of AKV, where we bought, he was saying 9 months.

He told me that even thought American where buying less, foreigner (like Me) where buying more because the USD was low.

So unless they start something else, WDW will be only resale and ROFR. It would make sense to announce a new one. Or we will see a lot of people buying into Hawaii and reserving WDW at 7 months.

For what it's worth, Guides (who are, after all, in the business of selling timeshares) have been known to stretch the truth on these issues from time to time.

After having returned from my third stay in the last six weeks, and my first in a one bedroom, I do have to say I LOVE this resort. Prior to my stays in studios (the first two trips to VGC) I had only stayed in the larger units 1 or 2 bedrooms and the THV. I've stayed at SSR, BWV and Kidani, but when I walked into that 1 BR unit at the VGC, I was just floored! It was huge and just gorgeous. The open kitchen floorplan was spectacular, the two bathrooms were great even though we were just two people. I do still like the layout of SSR & BWV, but I can see people who get used to the VGC having a big let down at many of the older resorts in FL. They'll have to keep building them better and better each time!

Ugh, I really hope this is not true! Don't like the location and don't like the California theme idea either!
My wish is a Caribbean DVC - in the Caymans ideally. :cloud9: Just think of the possibilities - they could tie it in with the cruise line as either a port of call or a home port. Stay at the DVC then get on the boat! I'd love to see an Aulani-style resort for us east coasters. :goodvibes

We are a family of 5 and the new design of the 1 bedrooms in AKL, BLT and VGC with sleeping space for 5 and 2 bathrooms is perfect for us. I agree, the older resorts loose a little bit of their appeal as they fine tune their design standards and add features to the new properties that make sense for the modern traveller. I guess along those lines, I would like to see another Florida DVC with true sleeping space for 5 in a 1 bedroom as that would open up our options with our VGC points at 7 months. I am okay with a location near blizzard beach but the California theme is not what I go all the way across the coasts for ;-) If they play up a retro vibe like what is being planned for the Disneyland Hotel, I would be interested though.

While most currnet DVC members are hoping for a resort next to a park, DVD just wants something to sell when AKV and SSR sell out. They are going to have to break ground soon if they want to have points for sale in late 2012 (which by then AKV will surely be sold out adn BLT will be in the last 1/4). DVD is not about making the members happy they are about making money and with the sales structure they have they can sell anything that is "on the WDW property". Condo type resorts can be built in phases so in a questionalbe market they add a large amout of flexibility (at higher maintinance costs for the members). You can bet something is going to break ground in the next 1-1/2 years. I am still thinking that if they can get adaquate pilings they might expand VWL where the old water park was, with real lakeview units. They could triple the size of VWL very easily and have a waterview points level that is higher than the currnet VWL charts.

The California theme does nothing for me.

From the looks of the Google earth map shown by a PP the location dosen't look that bad. If done correctly it could have good access to BB and HS

I see what you mean, if they did a overpass or underpass for World drive and had an "international gateway" type access to HS plus a walking path to BB then it could have some real "park appeal".

I do not know how much of it is buildable but that is a big chunk of land.

.....or maybe DVC could have been in discussions with Disney in order to locate a new "home" near to a long rumoured 5th theme park.

I would contend that if there was/are plans for DVC rooms at the Dland hotel they were put on hold due to slow sales. I have heard of no delays for WOC or Carsland, what have you heard?

I hear what you are saying, but when it comes to the bottom line, DVC really is not about filling rooms, it is about selling contracts.
I disagree. The whole purpose of DVC is to constantly bring people back to staying on Disney property and spending money on Disney property.

Just to echo what some others have said... I'm not in love with a "California" theme for a DVC resort. DVC at the Poly, though... then they'd have something!
