@Brianstl that I hadn't actually considered a scenario where the parks would be closed but the hotels still open, so when I said "parks", I meant "parks" and "resorts". What would be the point of the hotels being open if the parks werent?
Also the DVC Rental Store charges approx $2-3 a day more than Disney does - so they do make money from selling the dining plan. Below is the cost of the dining plan when purchased through the DVC rental store - ($81 a night), when I believe the price is $78 when booked directly.
