Rumor about potential major reduction in operating hours for WDW if Disney Asia parks remain closed due to coronavirus

I never proclaimed the parks weren’t operating normally. Perhaps you didn’t catch where the OP had reached out to The DVC Rental Store trying to get piece of mind and was given a flat “too bad” response. That establishment has every intention of making money off this SHOULD the parks / resorts close.
I don't believe the direct words were "too bad". These companies are following their current policies. Other policies will be enacted or put in place if the resorts were to close. Like I said that is an IF right now.

We are sitting on a point rental with arrival in a couple weeks. Of course I would love if David’s could give us back our money and uncomplicate this decision for us, but with a point rental you know what you’re getting into. I never anticipated a freaking pandemic but that’s another story.

It’s our loss should we decide not to go before the point insurance would kick in. It really really sucks and is a lot of money to be out, but I don’t expect anything from David’s (although I’d welcome it lol), except for the event that there’s an actual shutdown where I would think there’s a possibility. Still not a guarantee though.

Perhaps you should read the OP post, then, as they were not making demands and requesting accommodations to any terms of a rental agreement. The DVC Rental Store is informing renters that if the parks / resorts were to close and the DVC Member were to receive their points back, the renting party would not receive a refund if they didn’t purchase the cancel for any reason insurance.

Even though they legally can’t sell that to NYS residents.
You need to go back in read the original post. The response that the rental company gave was to the question what were they going to do if the parks closed. The resorts were not mentioned. There is a very good chance that if the parks would close that the resorts would stay open just like they did In Tokyo. Also, you told a person to attack the rental company on social media for not accommodating his request to alter his payment date. So yes people are making demands and you told them to attack them for not accommodating to their demands.

Ryan - I’d love to agree with you that most companies will amend current policies, however The DVC Rental Store, I do not believe they will. My sister rented from them and posed the question to them that if -and only- if they closed —as she very much wants her trip to go on - and they advised her that she would receive no refund, and had she purchased their Point Protection Plan and cancelled 30 - 3 days of her trip - she would only receive 40% of her money. Hence my shock and outrage. I do think you are right in that MOST companies would do what is right by the customer in this unique circumstance.

nope. That is not what transpired. That is what you took from it. Keep looking, you’ll get it.

Read the post like you told me to,
Wish I had rented points from you  Unfortunately I rented through the DVC rental store and they are taking a very hard nosed approach telling me that if the parks close I am SOL. The owner of the points seems to be some type of property company so I'm sure they would be similarly hard nosed.

Like I’ve said if the entire resort shuts down we are in uncharted territory. It’s too early to know for sure what will happen. It’s likely that some people will lose money if that happens but at the same time that’s the nature of this beast. If it comes to that all travel companies will lose money.

But that’s clearly outlined in the PPP terms. You only get a portion back depending on when you cancel.

And here you are telling a poster to take to social media over a company not agreeing to changing the terms of a contract even though nothing at Disney has changed

My message was in response to them trying to up sell the addition of the dining plan with this post. You had initially bungled two posts together as if they were one. Stop trying to have your “gotcha” moment... it’s not happening as you are misinterpreting and attempting to skew what I’ve said.

They weren’t trying to up sell. They don’t make any money off someone buying a dining plan.

trying to get them to buy a dining plan is the very definition of up sell:

: to try to convince (a customer) to purchase something additional

Up sell suggest they are trying to sell you something they make money off. They don’t make money off someone buying the dining plan. Every penny paid by a point renter for a dining plan goes to Disney. The question is part of a regular series of questions they ask as part of the service the provide point renters. Those questions include do you want the dining plan, do you want to schedule magical express and do you have any room request.

I'll just say given that it is my posts that you are discussing @Brianstl that I hadn't actually considered a scenario where the parks would be closed but the hotels still open, so when I said "parks", I meant "parks" and "resorts". What would be the point of the hotels being open if the parks werent?
Also the DVC Rental Store charges approx $2-3 a day more than Disney does - so they do make money from selling the dining plan. Below is the cost of the dining plan when purchased through the DVC rental store - ($81 a night), when I believe the price is $78 when booked directly.

Includes:
One Table Service meal per person, per night *
One Quick Service meal per person, per night *
Two Snacks per person, per night
One Resort-refillable drink mug per person, per reservation
* Meal beverage options have been expanded to include specialty and alcoholic beverage with meal.

$810.00 ($81.00/night[ 1 Adult] x 10 nights)

Interesting! I had no idea.
The point owner has to purchase the dining plan for the point renter and the point owner pays Disney the exact amount the point renter gives them. The rental company just passes along the payment information to the point owner.

The dining plan is currently $79.41 a night. It does appear that DVC rental store charges a credit card processing fee to dining plan purchases. David’s doesn’t add that fee if you pay with gift cards, but rental store doesn’t offer that option. Rental store isnt making money off it, because the processing fee is something that they actually pay to the credit card companies.

The parks closing and the resorts being opened should have crossed your mind because that is exactly what happened in Japan.
