Mayor Demmings says Disney will reveal their opening strategy

People on here: “Doesn’t mean they’re revealing the parks opening strategy, they’re probably just revealing how they’ll open their owned and operated stores and restaurants at Disney Springs.”

The BlogMickey headline is misleading. Mayor said Disney gave an “indication” they would be submitting reopening plans next week. Maybe they will! That would be great. Maybe they won’t. I don’t think anyone will know for sure until Disney confirms they will be submitting a reopening plan. Until then, they’re leaving it open and it could change.

With how little info they’ve given out would any of us be totally shocked if their reopening plan was for the NBA experience and some other parts of Disney Springs, rest of the property still TBA?

Obviously I’m joking around but I mean, I could kinda see it 😂.

Why would they even give an indication if their intentions weren’t to submit them? Sure, things could drastically change from now to then, but contrary to people’s beliefs that Disney is in no rush to open back up, at least a little fire was lit under them with Universal revealing theirs. They can stay a week, or even 2 weeks behind universal, but if they can see the light at the end of the tunnel, open up for even 2-2.5 weeks before the end of Q3, they’re likely going to jump at that

My point is that I believe the reason that Disney is not announcing this themselves is to keep their options open. That doesn’t mean they won’t submit it next week. I’m saying the fact that they haven’t announced it themselves gives them an out.

Maybe tomorrow Disney will confirm they’re submitting a plan next week! Or maybe they’ll keep it open.

I sure hope they submit a plan next week for the sake of everyone on this board :)

As I’m watching The Disunplugged on YouTube breaking down UPR plan, so much is running through my head.

Id love to see something like the preshow on Soarin that all guests need to watch before entering the park talking about all the requirements and the acknowledgement that masks in July are what they are, but that by coming into the park you are agreeing to suck it up and deal with it. It is what it is. So be thankful and grateful you are here, and play by the rules because if too many don’t Disney/UO will take their ball and go home. Aka they are giving us an inch, let’s not take a mile.

Patrick: and oh yeah, don't forget ... [Holds up a mask] ... these little beauties

There are no assumptions, that is dependent on the Feds.

Right now only people who have travelled in certain countries are banned from entering the US, but most of the world can still enter actually. Chatter a ban might get slapped on Brazil but nothing has happened yet.

ETA: I don’t think anyone anticipates full capacity until this is over
Also depends on UK fco as they have said no travel unless absolutely necessary, I'll have too explain to them my Disney trip is to me lol

If there isnt some sort of reality show, or YouTube content from these NBA players shacking up at Coranado Springs for 2-3 months, theyre missing a golden opportunity
They might use that for TV, refs, team personnel like announcers etc. Still say players will be at Waldorf and 4 seasons.

I guess that’s exactly my point. Why can’t they announce that they hope to submit plans sometime next week.
I think they are weighing their options and the NBA does play a role in this. Thinking from a straight business perspective Disney must be scared to open because so much of their business and popularity relies on interaction. Now our family hasn't visited UO yet (waiting for kids to get a little older) but I'm guessing there is less interaction with cast members there. If too many modifications to the parks need to happen and people aren't visiting for whatever reason. The parks would then be staffed and open and Disney may be operating without making profit. If that happens now layoffs instead of furloughs which turns this bad situation to an even worse one.

Once I heard about the NBA I thought they have to be exploring the option of splitting some revenue with the NBA (TV, advertising) and keeping the parks closed until the end of the season, then opening up in the fall (sep, oct) with less modifications and more demand.

The NBA won’t pay Disney anywhere near what they could make off of the parks being opened for the amount of time it would take to finish the NBA season.

I suspect Smugglers Run for one will be closed for a while.
The most important part in that article is this- "No details about what possible rides or attractions might remain closed were offered." There may be no rides affected at all. I don't see why they'd need to close smugglers run any more than they'd need to close any ride with a portion of the queue indoors. They can limit the number of people and add social distancing markers to the queues.

I agree with the first part, but it would pay Disney something without having to pay as many cast members, open and operate the parks. DL is more local so I think they won't have trouble making profit upon reopening, but WDW will have more trouble due to it being more of a destination.

Couldn't Smugglers Run just be the 1st and 3rd row because they are spaced out far enough? Then just wipe down the buttons between rides?
