Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I just keep wondering how they are going to handle the bus transportation once the parks open - even at reduced capacity, the bus lines (especially at park close) will be crowded , and between distancing on the bus line and on he bus, could be a disaster

But even if they cut down the amount of people allowed to stay at resorts, there’s not much to do (on property) other than stay at your resort, resort hop, go to DS, or golf. All but one of those would cause spacial issues without having parks open. Resorts are packed during the day, especially pools when the parks are open. I can only imagine what it’d look like with no parks, even with reduced rooms
Yeah, it would take a certain crowd no doubt. But I would be in that crowd. And, it's a start....if that is what they want to do.

I think they can do it. But I think they’d have to discount the rooms, possibly by even half, if not more

Gentle reminder: People enjoy WDW in many different ways.
They do, and are fully entitled to however they like to visit.

We were so sad about our trip being cancelled at the very last minute in March that we were trying to think of anything we could do to make ourselves and especially my grandson, feel better. We had the Riviera at a fantastic rate and that was honestly our main reason for even planning the trip- it’s normally not one we could afford. So, for a brief moment we considered making a mad dash down to Disney, hit the parks for that last day, then spend a couple of days at the resort. In the end, the idea of staying at a resort, looking out over a deserted, closed park was, outside of not getting to go, about the most depressing thing we could do.

I still feel that way. It’s one thing to make a resort stay only and quite another to be there when the parks are shuttered.

Resort only is a hard sell in numbers high enough to make it worthwhile, IMO. Lots of people enjoy spending time at the resorts, and some do resort only trips by choice, but I would guess a good number of those people are DVC so Disney is getting that money whether or not they come, or somewhat short stays.

I'd be surprised if resorts as a whole open for any significant amount of time before the parks. Parks are the main draw and the reason people are willing to pay the insanely high prices.

I could never do resort only, but I do understand why that might be appealing.

We don’t do rest days, either. I want to be in the parks. I want fireworks. I want characters. I want table service. But I totally get why those things aren’t important to others.

One thing I love about these boards is learning how others do Disney. I find it very interesting.

We don’t do an entire resort day either, but almost always take afternoon breaks at the resort. As I get older, I’m beginning to enjoy a slower pace, but I’ll never be able to do a resort only stay. Even when staying CL, where we spend a lot more time at the resort, we still get plenty of park time in.

Some people love Disney, or even just their luxury resorts themselves, but hate crowds of people and long lines therefore they just stay at the hotels. Some hotels you can watch the fireworks from your resort, and there’s character dining. I get why people would do it. Disney has a lot of magic outside of their parks as well that if you’re not a crowds or rides person. But I just question if it’s worth it to open up hoping to get enough people in that group to make it worthwhile to them. If I’m on Disney property, I can’t not go to the parks every day, even for just a few hours to walk around and not even ride anything. But that’s why I do Vero in the middle of my stays to get some rest and relaxation

pirate: My bet is you are younger or haven't been as often as us. We are empty nesters with >30 trips under our belts. I know every path, ride and bar like the back of my hand. Thus, we do things differently. When those twins to my right and left were in their growing years, we were just like you. I loved it! But I now prefer slow walks with Mrs. Ally and nice sit down dinners. I am still ticked off that Illuminations is gone though... ARgh

Thanks everyone. I’m sure my reaction seems extreme - I have had some pretty horrible encounters with people in public over the actions of my disabled child. I honestly think I have PTSD from it. So this is where I’m coming from when I say I’m worried about how CMs or guests will treat us if he rips off his mask. People have treated our family horribly in the past.
I’m so sorry. People suck sometimes. Unfortunately people might still treat your family bad, but the CMs should not.

Who knows. We have a family member with asthma, and that individual certainly cannot wear a mask when having an asthma attack. But perhaps that's a situation where you provide a medical note regarding the situation?
Absolutely not. Disney does not look at medical notes, nor do they want to know exactly what your medical diagnosis are (see DAS program). Simply stating you don’t wear one for a medical or disability reason will be enough.

We have a trip in July and if the resort is open we're committed. We agreed we love the Poly, will golf, and if open will drive to the beach. We want a vacation and are ok with a non-traditional Disney style Florida trip

Eh, I guess, but then people who don't want to wear a mask will say that. If Disney makes mask mandatory there needs to be something more than "I can't." Otherwise just don't make them mandatory.

So on this issue, does anyone know how they are handling the mask requirement in Shanghai? I know masks are required, but are there exceptions?
See: DAS program. Disney looked in depth at how to walk that line, yep people will lie and get by with it, nope they won’t pursue it. Too expensive.

LOL Shanghai exception, as if the mask requirement is Disney’s decision. The entire city of Shanghai is required to wear masks by the government. Disney is following local government regulations. You DO NOT say no to the Chinese government.

Disney doesn’t even need to create extra work for themselves creating surveys. They can just release a statement a few stores are opening with mandatory face coverings. Can’t do the mask debate, but I think they almost have to do it out of the gate regardless of what each of us feel. We all have our opinions on the efficacy of masks but I really don’t think Disney is looking at it that way. It’s good PR and masks make some people feel safe.

Edit - I still don’t think they will mandate they are worn in the parks. It’s a logistical nightmare.
I am torn on if they’ll require them. Considering how many people faint normally in the FL heat I think it’s a lousy idea but if the CMs refuse to return without them being required of guests (although honestly I wouldn’t want to police that as CM and it will totally fall on them because there are some insane people out there)... since I don’t want them required I’ll just guess why only DS has them 🤣
-3rd party venues that might not want to come back to work without them being required of guests
-workers at the 3rd party venues might not want to return without them being required of guests
-majority of people’s time will be spent inside with AC or on patios with fans, and when they’re drinking and eating obviously they won’t be wearing it. So people only wear it for 10-15% of their visit (walk from car to venue and back)
-it may only be required until FL/Orange county moves to the next phase and then it might go recommended

The only place where I really feel like I would personally want everyone wearing masks are in the queues and in the souvenir shops. I feel like with reduced capacity the walkways (especially in a majority of MK) I can find a way to avoid people that aren't wearing masks.
