We are first-timers with DCL. My wife and I haven't been on a cruise in 15 years since our honeymoon. Kids have never seen such a big ship, much less been on one.
We consider ourselves WDW experts but total newbies for DCL, so I'm enjoying reading all the comments and tips. My wife has ordered a bunch of stuff off Etsy (door magnets, matching shirts, etc.).
A couple quick questions:
1) Can the kids wear dress shorts in the dining rooms for dinner or is it long pants/skirts/dresses for everyone?
2) About how many beach wheelchairs are available at CC? My DD12 is disabled and in a wheelchair. I'm planning on running the CC 5K, so I won't be able to get off the ship as soon as we dock to snag one.
3) Our boarding time is 12:30-1:00. About what time should we get to the port? We are driving down the day before and staying at a nearby hotel.
4) What type of outfits for pirate night? Do people go all out or just wear a bandana and an eye patch?
I know I'll have a ton more questions over the next few weeks, but those are the ones for tonight. We look forward to meeting y'all in the D-lounge! It will be here before we know it.
I did some research on the sand wheelchairs, but didn't learn a lot. I did find this one link which showed pictures. Looks like there's about 6 of them, but hard to know how many will be needed. You could ask the question on the main DCL Dis Boards, maybe someone will know.

This link shows lots of Castaway Cay pictures.
Kids are fine in nice shorts. In fact you see some men and teenagers wearing them. The only problem you encounter with the dress code is Palo and Remys. They're pretty strict.
12:30-1:00 is actually your port time. They start letting people board around 11:30. I would arrive at noon. They'll give you a boarding number. Then around 11:30 they'll call the first numbers. It goes very quick. While you wait, you can get pictures with Mickey or Goofy, sign kids up for the clubs. There are several tv s showing Disney movies. There are restrooms. But no snack bar.
Hope this helps !

. Could you give me your cabin # OR if you'd rather not, I'll leave it at Guest Services with your and Cailey's name on it.

Counting down to seeing the fireworks on the Dream -- woo hoo!
They'll let you off at the front door of the hotel. Go downstairs and if you don't see the desk selling tickets, just ask someone. I would leave Atlantis no less than an hour from when the ship leaves to go back, although it won't take 15 min.
We are in cabin 8668
I need to discuss it with Scott. He is super shy!!!!!! It took 10 yrs to talk to my family-lol! Thank you for the invite
We have 2 autistic children both in wheelchairs. We are actually using this cruise as a test to see if we think our kids would enjoy a
There is so much out there that it was hard to decide-and to decided if I could get them done in time!
Im the kind of person who takes on to many things at one time
I decided to paint our kitchen cabinets today since we have the long weekend and hubby can watch kids. What was I thinking-just added another project with just 23 days left for packing and last minute planning! Well, after cabinets, I can start on the FUN stuff for yall!!!
. but if you add you name, cabin #, kids names and ages, if people have extra gifts they might include you.
