Row row row your boat! July 28, 2013 on the Dream!

We are first-timers with DCL. My wife and I haven't been on a cruise in 15 years since our honeymoon. Kids have never seen such a big ship, much less been on one.

We consider ourselves WDW experts but total newbies for DCL, so I'm enjoying reading all the comments and tips. My wife has ordered a bunch of stuff off Etsy (door magnets, matching shirts, etc.).

A couple quick questions:
1) Can the kids wear dress shorts in the dining rooms for dinner or is it long pants/skirts/dresses for everyone?
2) About how many beach wheelchairs are available at CC? My DD12 is disabled and in a wheelchair. I'm planning on running the CC 5K, so I won't be able to get off the ship as soon as we dock to snag one.
3) Our boarding time is 12:30-1:00. About what time should we get to the port? We are driving down the day before and staying at a nearby hotel.
4) What type of outfits for pirate night? Do people go all out or just wear a bandana and an eye patch? pirate:

I know I'll have a ton more questions over the next few weeks, but those are the ones for tonight. We look forward to meeting y'all in the D-lounge! It will be here before we know it.

I did some research on the sand wheelchairs, but didn't learn a lot. I did find this one link which showed pictures. Looks like there's about 6 of them, but hard to know how many will be needed. You could ask the question on the main DCL Dis Boards, maybe someone will know.

This link shows lots of Castaway Cay pictures.

Kids are fine in nice shorts. In fact you see some men and teenagers wearing them. The only problem you encounter with the dress code is Palo and Remys. They're pretty strict.

12:30-1:00 is actually your port time. They start letting people board around 11:30. I would arrive at noon. They'll give you a boarding number. Then around 11:30 they'll call the first numbers. It goes very quick. While you wait, you can get pictures with Mickey or Goofy, sign kids up for the clubs. There are several tv s showing Disney movies. There are restrooms. But no snack bar.

Hope this helps !

OH ! Pirate night ! pirate:
A lot of people dress up, kids and adults. Maybe 10% will have the full costumes, about half will wear pirate shirts, hats, earrings, tattoos, etc. it's a lot of fun ! People wear their costumes to dinner, then they're ready for the night. The waiters are dressed as pirates too. Everyone gets a pirate bandana. They sell pirate gear in the gift shops too. pirate:

Pam

I know you decided not to do the FE exchange, however, I do have something for Cailey and really hate to throw it out :scratchin. Could you give me your cabin # OR if you'd rather not, I'll leave it at Guest Services with your and Cailey's name on it. :confused3

Hope you enjoy your cruise and that Cailey has a wonderful birthday :cheer2:

So sweet! Our room number is 8510 and I sent you a PM.

Cruise tips

Don't forget free fountain sodas on pool deck, but if you order can sodas in the dining room or from room service, you pay.

Hi Scrapycruiser- My husband and kids have never cruised before and are big soda drinkers. The only place to get free pop is the pool deck? So we will have to bring our cups of soda to dinner in order not to be charged? I thought all non-alcoholic drinks were included with meals- just not during the day.....
Can you clarify from your experience? Thanks :)

So sorry ! I gave out the wrong info. You do get free sodas in the dining room.

Hi everyone! Less than 30 days!!! So exciting. I'm almost finished with my FE gifts. Had to scrap a few ideas due to time constraints and lack of crafting ability, but I'm happy with what I've got so far!

Should we go ahead and officially have briayakik combine with our FE group?

I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th!

I had already added her to my FE list. Maybe send her a PM letting her know shes in, if thats what everyone agrees on. Probably, most will add her to their list if they have extras.

Happy 4th of July !!!:rockband:

Yay(: we have almost completed our FEs (we were going to give them out regardless), but this is very exciting (: thank you.

Happy Independence Day everyone!! I hope you are all celebrating with family and friends!!

We went shopping for pirate accessories today -- and had no luck! I really wish I'd bought stuff last year after Halloween. DS wants to dress up and I'm just not willing to pay for the full costume at the Party City store ($49!). They did have an eye patch for $1.99. I told him he could have that! :thumbsup2

We're off to watch some fireworks! pixiedust: Counting down to seeing the fireworks on the Dream -- woo hoo!

Dawn
Its very easy. Just walk off the ship and go to the end of the pier. There will be several taxi drivers there. Just tell them you want to go to Atlantis. Be firm ,they'll probably want to talk you into a tour ! :scared1: They'll let you off at the front door of the hotel. Go downstairs and if you don't see the desk selling tickets, just ask someone. I would leave Atlantis no less than an hour from when the ship leaves to go back, although it won't take 15 min.
If you and Scott would like to ride over in a cab with us, we'd be happy for you to join us ! :cool1: We are in cabin 8668 :thumbsup2 And we'll be at the DisMeet the first day.

I would love to ride with yall-aka "the experts"-lol! I thank you for all your expertise and knowledge that you give:flower3: I need to discuss it with Scott. He is super shy!!!!!! It took 10 yrs to talk to my family-lol! Thank you for the invite:drive:

We wear bandanas and red/black for pirate nite.
They do sell items on board though!
I am soooooo excited for our Meet/Greet in the D Lounge at 3:30pm

hi seidelhd-i don't have any tips bc this is mine and my DH first cruise too. I was just wanting to say hi and let you know we have a disable child also. Two in fact.::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo We have 2 autistic children both in wheelchairs. We are actually using this cruise as a test to see if we think our kids would enjoy a Disney cruise since they LOVE Disney World!:cheer2: We would love to meet your family sometime during the cruise. We are also doing the 5k but have not ran since last yrs Wine and Dine. We actually pushed the kids in their chairs at one of the Mickey's Halloween Family 5k.
Well, wishing everyone a Happy 4th!

I'm so excited! I finally decided what to make for the adult FEs:idea: There is so much out there that it was hard to decide-and to decided if I could get them done in time!:hourglass Im the kind of person who takes on to many things at one time:crazy: I decided to paint our kitchen cabinets today since we have the long weekend and hubby can watch kids. What was I thinking-just added another project with just 23 days left for packing and last minute planning! Well, after cabinets, I can start on the FUN stuff for yall!!!:artist:

So my DH and DD(heyitsliana) have both begun the packing adventure......me nada. I am the biggest procrastinator there is.
I will.probably pack the night before. We will be on South Florida and Disney World (Bay Lake Tower) prior to cruise. We will also be at a Jonas Brothers concert, too. lol.
Can't wait for this trip! Hard to contain my excitement

IndyMouseFan- I am new too- and just learning by trying to read up when I can :-) In lots of pictures I saw these small pocket holders hanging by people's cruise doors. They call them fish extenders. I guess if you agree ahead of time, with your group of cruisers, you use those and bring little gifts to give while on the ship. You take down people's names and ages and then plan what you will bring and when you will deliver it to the doors. Not sure about doing it- but was open to what everyone else was doing that would be on our ship. :-)
Looking to join a fish extender group. Do you know how I can find one?

Hey scrappy, this is my first time on the Disney cruise and would love to join a fish extender group for my little ones. How do I join one?

Go to page 15 of this thread, post #222, and you'll find the link to the FE Group.
Our cutoff was June 15 :(. but if you add you name, cabin #, kids names and ages, if people have extra gifts they might include you. :)
A lot of people make their gifts or buy ahead so that's why there is a cut off. Certainly not meaning to exclude anyone. So go ahead and add your info, and you might get lucky.:confused3

We are having a Meet and Greet at 3:30 in the D Lounge. So drop by and say hi !
A good way for the kids to meet new friends :thumbsup2
Have a wonderful cruise !
