We have not been to Disney since 2014, so the thought of fast passes now being gone overwhelms me! We are staying at a Disney resort, so we can access early entry.
Help a mom out with the best tips to make sure her 11 year old son (who is crazy about stars wars) makes it on to ROTR!

Steps laid out in 1…2….3 would be super helpful!
We will be there on June 23

Thank you!

Your best bet, like it or not, is going to be the paid Lightening Lane. Make sure your credit card info is pre-loaded in the app so at 7 on the dot, you're ready. If you're at your resort, it may help to turn off wifi and find a place with the best cell service. Bear in mind you can do this on days you're not planning on being at HS if you have park hoppers and get a time after 2pm.

The other possibility is rope drop. Just line up as early as you can and follow the herd. The potential pitfall here is that the ride frequently closes during the day and often doesn't open right on time.

Good luck!

Your best best is going to be just to buy the Individual Lightning Lane. It's $15 per person and it does guarantee you at some point in the day that you will get to ride. Even when the ride goes down during your time, it will turn into a "experience redemption pass" that you can redeem at Rise when the ride comes back up. Rise does tend to sell out before offsite guests have the chance to purchase so with this ride you don't really have a choice in what time you get right at 7 am.

Options that do not require spending more money would be to rope drop or get on line a few minutes before the park closes. These are risky options because Rise breaks down a lot. On my May trip Rise went down during early entry for both of my Hollywood Studios days. I even tried to hop on line before the park closed and I only waited 20 minutes, but the ride broke down and they cleared the queue. With the Lightning Lane you are essentially paying to skip the gamble.

Buy the Lightning Lane, and if you're at the parks for multiple days (not just June 23 for Hollywood Studios), get park hoppers. I like to hop into line right before park close (so 8:55 for a 9pm closing) but if the ride goes down, you'll want to make sure you have multiple chances. (Ignore the posted wait times, we usually wait 18 minutes or so even though it says 45-50 minutes at the end of the day for ROTR.)

Worst case scenario you get to ride it multiple times. Its a great ride.

0. Stay at Crescent Lake area if you can (walking over to HS means no need to rely on park transportation).
1. Learn how to purchase ILL ahead of time.
2. Practice on the app.
3. May the odds be ever in your favour on the morning of June 23.
4. Head over early to rope drop and line up for ROTR in the morning. (Go at least an hour before posted rope drop time.) Make sure you find the line for resort guest access.
5. Hop into ROTR line at end of the day.
6. Don't forget to have an awesome time at Batuu in between! Smugglers Run is fun, I like the spira as a souvenir, and enjoy the land at nighttime too, with lightsabres everywhere.

I was told the ride takes about 45 minutes to reboot once it goes down, so if its down at 8:30pm, its unlikely to be back up and running again before park close. But YMMV.

Good luck.

Thank you! And excuse my ill knowledge on the subject….but do you use the my disney experience app to buy LL passes? So if we have tickets to the park on June 23 only, we can only purchase LL that day at 7am?

My pleasure. There is info on every corner of the web for the best way to do this. But, I'll give it a shot: on the app, lower right hand option (the three horizontal bars) has an icon for "my genie day". Click on that and there should be an icon for "Take today to the next level" where you can check it out. But it won't actually be live until 7am the day you want to book.

If HS isn't your first day, check it out on an earlier day of your stay.

If you have another adult or teenagers in your family, you should ALL log on from separate devices and try to get it right at 7am. The more people trying, the better your odds.

Just to clarify for you; there is Genie +, and ILL$, they are 2 different things. Rise will be purchased via ILL$; Individual Lightening Lane. You can try for it at 7am.

If the ride isn't down, the best way to ride is to get in line just before park close. Shorter waits, sun will be down.

When I was just at WDW, I purchased a ILL for ROTR on Sunday, May 15th. I went on the app right at 7am and was looking for an evening slot. I ended up booking a 5pm slot. But I kept checking to see when it sold out. It took a bit before the app said that there was not any available. Maybe an anomaly that day, but I didn't feel like it was a super stressful process that times would be gone in less than a minute. I felt as long as you were on at 7am that would pretty much get a time for some time in the day. It was way less stressful than the old boarding group process.

Don't forget, by then Guardians will be open so this may take some of the heat out of the demand for Rise.

I rode twice last week by jumping in line at 15 minutes before close. It worked great, with very manageable wait times - maybe 35 minutes.

Time wise , that's my recommendation. But... you risk it going down and missing out. We had more than a week to work with, so we knew we could try a few more times if needed.

If you try for an ILL at 7 am and they are sold out by the time you go to check out, keep checking back. We logged on right at 7am, and by the time we went to confirm, they were gone. We were on the bus to the park and kept reloading the screen. We were able to find one around 7:10am or 7:15am. (I'm sure there is more specific information on this board about when they drop.) This was on Easter week, so it was crowded. We ended up getting it for around lunchtime.

We rode Rise 4 times last week (twice each evening) all near closing time. Our longest wait was 17 minutes, with an 85 minute posted wait time.

We just couldn’t justify purchasing $ILL when the wait was that short.

My fav thing to do is rope dropping it. Figure out what time early entry is. Go 45min to 1 hour before. You will get in. I also buy ILL$ and do it twice. Amazing day! Best of luck.

I also recommend trying for lightning lane. If you can’t get one, it is probably best to get there early for early entry and then if you love it- go back just before park close. We were there last night- actually hopped in line 20 mins before park close and waited 30 minutes. Have done it before closer to actual park close and waited 10.

As others have said though, the ride goes down a lot so if you only have 1 day I would not do only the park close route.

Since your son is big into Star Wars, I would
1. At 7am book and pay for Rise.
2. Right after that, book Millennium Falcon Smugglers run as normal genie+/lightening lane.
3. Rope drop Rise since you have early entry. He is going to want to do this one twice!
3. Ride Star Tours at any time.
This is what I had my daughter and boyfriend do a couple of weeks ago.

3 totally different amazing experiences.

We didn't buy ILL and rode it 3 times in one day.
1. Get to the park an hour before park opening for onsite guests.
2. Ride ROTR once or twice
3. Get in line at the very end of the night and ride it.
We used this strategy when we went. We rode once in the morning and then twice at the end of the day.

Everyone has said the right things, including having everyone in your party who has a phone to have that app ready to go at 6:59am. My phone had issues with the app, but my friend, a WDW first timer, got through on the ILL. So glad we didn't leave it all up to me!
1) ILL for RotR
2) Rope drop RotR even if you have an ILL. Ride twice!
3) Park close ride. Three times in one day would be awesome for catching details.
4) Plan more than one DHS day if you can, or have Parkhoppers, or be prepared to upgrade to PHs if your DHS day goes sideways. If you have SW fans in your party, nothing else at all the other parks is going to top this.
5) Gravy: If it works out on ILL, Genie+, and/or standby lines, it was FABULOUS to take my friend on the three SW rides in this order: first Star Tours (easy to do as you can pass it on the way to Batuu), then MFSR, and then RotR. The day just kept building.
It was our arrival day, and we didn't get to DHS until 2pm, so we couldn't rope drop RotR. I still rec rope dropping of you get there early, just because the ride goes down. We arrived for our ILL on the dot of the window opening to find the ride down. We went for a bathroom and water-refill break and a little bazaar look. We came back 30 minutes later to find it had just reopened and we walked on with our ILL. But get on RotR whenever you can. GL!
