Roseanne back

I’m really conflicted about watching the show again. The show is hilarious and I love all the characters but Roseanne irl is nutso and is spreading conspiracy theories on Twitter. Also, did anyone see the pictures of her baking cookies? I won’t link it here.

I’m not trying to be political, even if she was a fan of a blue president I’d still think she was nuts for her online comments.

Roseanne is very controversial IRL. I get that. She can be ugly and vulgar. But with TV, I personally watch it to be entertained. As an actress, her character makes me laugh. I look at it like she is doing a job. She is getting paid to make people laugh. What she does outside of her job is not my concern. I choose to ignore it.

I can see how it would be hard to disassociate the two--the actress on a show and the individual when not on a show.

Did you see anything or hear anything in the episode(s) you watched that was similar to her online comments including the conspiracy theories?

Why are you following her then? UNFOLLOW, easy as that.

No, I didn’t hear anything on the show that we’re similar. I’m pretty sure I’ll still watch the show. If ABC has a problem with her, they should cancel the show ALTHOUGH that affects the other actors and the crew.

Ah gotcha. I don't forsee a cancellation at this point so soon after it being announced of a renewal so I'm guessing she'd have to say something really really really bad for them to do that with how well received it was. I don't follow her on social media and whatnot so I wasn't quite certain exactly the things she had been saying but it's a good thing to hear that the show seems to be separate from all that.

From what I'm reading, most of the cast is disassociated from her views, including John Goodman. In fact, he appears to be genuinely embarrassed by her remarks. I guess we all have that crazy relative and Rosanne seems to be that one.

I believe that was true to at least some extent the last go 'round (as well as all the years in between) as well.

If “not crazy” was a prerequisite for working in Hollywood it would be a ghost town.

That’s how I looked at it. Some of the show I’m laughing “with” other parts I’m laughing “at”. I saw Wanda Sykes is a writer or something too so that’s another balance.

I haven't been able to read all 13 pages, but watched a little of the first episode to see how everyone looked from before and see what's changed. It was okay, there were some funny parts but overall it's not something I'm going to continue watching, mainly after seeing a few photos she did a while back that I found appalling. It's too hard to separate the character from the person. I'm also kinda surprised it's on ABC, since Disney tends to stay away from walking controversies. It'll be interesting to see if they do continue the show or not.

I also agree about Will and Grace. I was so excited when it came back on, but haven't watched it passed the first few episodes. It's hard to do reboots of shows, it just isn't the same.

I agree with you about the photos. They were truly sick and revolting.

Well, now I want to know. This is Roseanne herself who did the photos?

I don't want to post it here, but it's a photo of her dressed as Adolf Hitler, pulling cookies shaped like people out of the oven.

My understanding is that they were from a Jewish satirical magazine, so that might make a difference. I don't know the context though, so I'll refrain from judging.

Omg! That’s horrible! Kinda wish I wouldn’t have asked!

It made me sad to see them, like it was totally inexcusable.

I looked on Snopes to confirm and they said it was supposed to be satire and something about normalization and taking back the culture or something and yadda yadda. Personally, that isn't okay under any context, satire or not.
