Rose and Crown?

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
We ate here in December, and it was one of our favorite meals. The stewed mushroom appetizer really is just incredible, and the potato and leek soup was awesome. The fish and chips were great, too - we really loved it all! We didn't get to eat outside, but we finished our main course around 9:15 and our CM, Lee, escorted us to the reserved viewing area and then back in to our table for dessert! He was the best CM we had on the trip and my kids still talk about his cool accent!! R&C is definitely a MUST!!:flower:

You had Lee too??? Isn't he brilliant??? What evening were you there? I was there on the 4th.

Well, this is good to hear, since I have an ADR at the Rose & Crown TONIGHT:cool1:

Right now I'm in my jammies in my family room, but we leave in several hours for our trip and we are going to start out with dinner at the Rose & Crown!

I have had fish & chips in the best of places and the worst of places.

I have had Harry Ramsden's Fish & Chips at a Harry Ramsden's restaurant in Piccadilly Circus in London. Worst fish & chips I've ever had.

I have now had Harry Ramsden's Fish & Chips at the Rose & Crown. They might not be the best fish & chips I've ever had (that honour goes to an anonymous chippy "at the top of the road" in Wallasey Village, Merseyside, England) but they were great fish & chips.

We were there long enough that our server Lee offered to take us downstairs for a great viewing spot for IllumiNations, but we weren't planning on staying for the fireworks -- maybe next time we'll schedule dinner for the same time and see the show.

We also make it a habit to stop at least once at the Rose & Crown while in EPCOT simply for the BEER! I've never been to the UK but I would like to think this is what an English Pub would be like! Friendly service, good hearty food and a GREAT beer selection. My personal favorite is Bass Ale, the original English Ale:drinking1 , but if you want something different try the "Flight" of beer. 5 different beers (ales) in 4 or 5 oz. glasses. You get Bass, Guinness, Harp, Stella and Bodkins for $10.00. All have different flavors and go well with the menu.:thumbsup2

Be sure to ask your waiter / waitress where they are from in the UK. The last time we went our waitress was thrilled we where interested in her homeland and how she came to the USA. Our bartenders, when asked, got into a "friendly" fight about which is better Scotalnd or England, very entertaining!

DW and I love our meal at Rose & Crown. The food was great, the server was super friendly, and the view was wonderful.

Can't wait to see what it's like after the refurb!

Lindsey from Blackpool was ecstatic that I not only knew where Blackpool was but had been there and experienced some of the same childhood fun she had found in that north England holiday town.

UrsulasShadow -- we also had Lee on the evening of Jan. 4th -- our ADR was for 6:50pm, but we didn't get in until closer to 7:30pm.

Rose and Crown is a "must" for us whenever we make it to WDW - great food and service and a wonderful atmosphere.

Hope you enjoy yourselves!

Thank you all for your posts it looks as though Ive made a great choice! It sounds like every one in my party will have a great dinning experience! Thank you again! Nettii:)

Oops, should have made it clearer that I was there Dec.4th. Still, ain't he wonderful??? Seems like he makes it his mission to make sure everyone gets to see IllumiNations from the best spots.

We are going to WDW January 20-26 and plan on visiting Epcot our first day the 20th. We usually locate a table at La Cantina De San Angel, eat and drink while waiting on the IllumiNations. This time I was thinking of Rose & Crown, but what I am worried about is missing IllumniNations. I spoke with dining reservations and could get on for that evening, but they do not reserve tables outside. I was told only if one was available could we get one, but a reservation is required to be able to eat and watch the show from there. We have no problem with eating or making the reservation, we just don't want to waste the time and not end up watching the show.

Any suggestions ???

Lee said that I could go out on the patio to watch the show.

Don't worry about missing Illuminations--if you're seated inside (either by choice or circumstance) when the time comes you can be escorted outside to the patio for viewing. In some ways, I liked this better than sitting outside because we could move around the patio to find the best view and we could concentrate on the show instead of our meal (servers continued to bring food, drink refills, etc to the outside tables during Illuminations). As an added bonus, our server covered our dishes to keep everything warm while we were outside. The final bonus was we were able to eat in glorious, air-conditioned comfort (which is why we chose to sit inside last August even though we'd made the reservations planning on requesting and waiting for an outside table).

At the end of the show, my 9 yo dd (who has seen Illuminations several times before and liked it, but didn't love it) just raved about what an incredible view we had. "This was so much better than any other time we've seen it!" It made my day to see her so excited.

Fish and Chips were great and so was the service. They had a piano player when I was there playing great music. If you like beer, they have a great selection. The atmosphere is very nice. I plan to go back in August.
