I've searched the Forums for similar issues to mine, and not had a whole lot of luck finding threads.

Here is my problem in a nutshell. Staying at the C B. from June 21 - 27th. and When I was planning this Trip it was for DD (9) and I. Now my GF and her DD (14) want to come. I've called CR and was told that I can't modify my res for 2 adults and 2 kids since my Room won't support 4 people.

I asked to change the Res to 2 queens, and was told there are none available at this time.

My question for those of you that have done this, what likely will happen if I show up with 4 people for a 2 person res?

I have never tried to do this, but I would have to think that they would not allow you to check in to a room that does not have the bedding for 4 people. If you show up and they don't have a room that will accommodate your party you will most likely cause the reservation to be cancelled, you would probably lose the deposit (if it is a room only reservation) and you would be scrambling to find another hotel. Not my idea of a good way to start a vacation.

I suggest you try to find another resort that has the availability you need.

Can you be a little more specific about which resort and room category you've booked? Have you booked a king bed room at a resort?

I just plugged in your dates, and, yes, if you are staying at CBR, everything is sold out except the pirate rooms which would give you two doubles and not queens, but would hold 4 people.

There is no way I would show up with 4 people if my room only held 2. If you booked a king, it only holds 2 and they can't give you a 2-queen room if they don't have one. I think your choices, at check-in, would be to keep the king and put GF and DD14 in whatever room they had available (if any) at CBR or another resort at rack rate, put you in a 2-queen (if available) and you'd have to pay any difference in price or forego the CBR room and take something else on property that's available for 4 people.

My advice, get it worked out before you go! If there is no availability at CBR, you may need to change resorts.

I have a King Standard @ CB from 6-21 through 6-27 When I spoke with CR they advised that likely it won't be a problem to show up with 4 people for a room that accommodates 2. As there will be many people that will request a King at check in that booked 2 queens, and vice versa. I'm looking for testimony from people that have actually done this before. I understand that my Experience is not guaranteed by this, just looking for what other Disers have experienced.

Be aware that many things you are told on the phone are not true. So even if one CM told you that you'd be fine, you cannot count on it. Are you willing to show up that day and not be able to check in? Forfeit your deposit? Be willing to move to another resort and pay whatever the rack rate is there? I certainly wouldn't take that chance!

Ok, so I Book the Pirate Room (Which I hate!) And then I get there and request a change, how does that work?

They advised you wrong because you booked a room with a limit of 2, then your extra 2 can not stay in your room. They have no knowledge at all about operations at the front desk .... and since King is a bookable category it is unlikely they would ever give a booked room to another guest who did not book that category. What if they did, and you showed up expecting the category you did indeed book?

PS If you are flying they won't be on the Magical Express booking. If you are getting Dining Plan, they won't have it.

^THIS. Phone CMs can verify only what they can punch in to computer and it come back to them. So when they told you there were no 2 Queen Rooms available .......... that would be the extent of their knowledge. They can commit nothing about operations at a resort.

I think that's wrong. King is BOOKABLE not a REQUEST. It's a different rate tier, even.

If you show up with 4 I'd have a backup plan for the person who may not be accommodated
.

You need to change your reservation to a "room" that holds 4 - and right now that is a Pirate room (full beds). Then I would keep checking to see if someone cancels a Queen/Queen before you leave. If you arrive to a Pirate room, you can ask at the front desk if any regular rooms are available to switch to ........... if not, you are stuck with Pirate room.

You can change resorts; Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter are available for your dates giving you queen beds. If Queens are deal breaker, I would move now.

King is a request at Value and Deluxe. At Mod, it's bookable. So CM is thinking "it's a request" and it's not.

If you book a Pirate room and show up and ask if there is a 2 Queen Room, they can switch you at the desk and you pay (refund?) the difference. Given that Pirate rooms are usually more expensive, you probably pay less overall. If it was a package, you get a room credit. If it's RO, you pay the balance for the room you get not the room you booked.

Makes sense. It does appear that I can get the Pirate room for less, since the Pass Holder Discount applies. So I'm calling to make that change now. In the event that the GF and her DD decide to get their own room, does that affect my res at all?

One time my friend & I were staying at CSR. We could only get a king bed room. There was just the 2 of us so we were ok but we did ask at check-in if they had 2 beds and they did. This was a few years ago, the thing they didn't tell us was it was smoking! Ugh. We kept it but were sorry.

They went to no smoking 10 years ago so that was awhile. :smokin:

They can only be in 1 room per night**, so if you use MDE (and you must to book FP+ etc.) then just call after they book a 2nd room to remove them from your room (if you have already changed to a 4 person room). And during that call you can try to get back your non-pirate room - which easily could be sold out by then. (I would urge GF to decide before you call. No way would I want a pirate room if they end up getting a 2nd room. And, the fewer calls you have to make to WDW the better (i.e., you are all set now in your King room if GF gets a 2nd room. You won't need to phone at all.))

**WDW always says this, but I haven't heard of them actually canceling a room because a non-lead guest was booked into 2 rooms.

You'll want to encourage GF to book the 2nd room (if she's going to) more than 60 days before the trip, so you can book FP+ at the first opportunity for all 4 of you.

I'm assuming you are booked room-only with the AP discount. If that's the case, no, if GF and DD decide to get their own room, you simply take them off your room and book a second room for them. However, maybe decide if you want a second room before you switch? If not, you and DD are now in a pirate room instead of the king room. If that's ok with you - yes, I would change to the pirate room now with all 4 guests and go from there so at least you have a room that accommodates everyone.

Thanks,

That's the problem, Trip in in June of 2017. We are just about 45 days out from the trip. I agree with you on the Pirate room. I stayed there in 2006, and hated the beds. Fortunately I only stayed there for 2 nights before transferring to the Beach Club. I'd rather make the change to the room, and try to make changes at check-in to a queen room, or back to the King. Also need to be able to add GFand her DD to MDE now so that we can start booking FP for Pandora and others.

THOUGHTS -

- Will you be happy if you arrive and you can not be moved out of the Pirate room? With the resort having one less village and MANY booking there for the discounts/gift cards .... availability is greatly reduced.

- If there is chance she is booking her own room or you want to continue to explore/adjust, I would have her set up her own MDE with her tickets. You become Friends & Family. You can then book her FP+ early without her having an onsite resort reservation.

Just got off the Phone with CR. I am now booked for Pirate room after an hour and 45 min with technical support they figured out that I need to have the QS Dining package on my room. What ever! At least now I have a room that sleeps 4 adults.

Sounds like you're booked now under the Free Dining promotion. Did you always have the Dining Plan?

Ugh - 1:45 on the phone. Its so painful calling sometimes, huh?! Glad you got the room for 4, though. The theming is nice in the pirate rooms - I like staying at a resort (and dining at restaurants) at WDW that couldn't be just anywhere.
Just to manage expectations... Do you know about the construction at CBR? (I'd be fine with it, if I knew ahead of time.)
