Room Occupancy

Have you ever been to anime or other Geek convention recently? It's common practice at these Cons to have 5 or six people in a room with only one bed. People crash on the floor or where ever. I don't do it anymore, but I did in my younger days.

It's also common practice to drive over the speed limit. Still doesn't make it legal.

Or, for that matter, a big deal.

ETA: I'm speaking in general like at Science Fiction conventions. At WDW the difference is having a MB and getting FP+ in 60 days.

Dining is never a mandatory part of a reservation. What was their reasoning for making you add it?
I wondered the same thing. Nothing about it makes any sense. Not that there is a glitch with MDE, those happen all the time. Just the entire process
Even if it did take a new reservation, why not just make a new one? Why fight for 2 hours to change an existing one?

after about an hour I did suggest to cancel the whole thing and start over. Problem was I didn't have the Disney Gift Card with me, so she said that wouldn't work. It's not a new reservation, my Res ID hasn't changed. CR was having difficulty adding the AP Room only discount to the res. No matter what she tried it would error out. Finally the 2nd Tech support person that she got suggested that we add DDP to the res making it a package (which is what I think caused the problem in the first place, I converted a Room only res to a DDP in March, and then removed it in April) It wasn't my first choice to struggle with this for 2 hours, but after the first hour I had to see it through.

Agreed! I know that FP is the much larger issue, so I was trying to get my Family added, just took some doing.

I still haven't heard from anyone that has ever been in this situation, guess it just never happens? Hard to believe that No one has ever shown up with more people in their party than they originally planned for. Of course it's far more likely that those of us on the Dis are planners, so it would never happen to any of us! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Showing up for more than you originally booked for and showing up with more than the room's occupancy limits are 2 different things.
Plus,
Do people sneak guests in to their room at Disney? All the time
Do they discuss it here at Dis? No

I'm sure that what they'd do is suggest you call the reservation line and book an additional room for the extra guests.

To expand on that a bit, there are two names on your reservation. Yours and your daughter's. If your GF and her daughter appear at the desk with you and want accommodations, it's no different than two random people walking in off the street and asking for a place to stay. They don't have a reservation, so they'll have to book a room. Which may be at that resort, if there's availability, or may be at another resort. Either way, it would likely be at rack rate.

I understand what you are saying. . a 2nd room is not in the budget. So I've booked a Pirate room for now. (I really don't like the Pirate rooms) but still better than staying in a Value resort IMHO. I was just wondering how accommodating Disney has been in the past, for people that have had last min changes to the qty of guests in a room. While I like to plan months in advance life happens and suddenly someone may find themselves in a position to join a planned trip that they weren't part of before. I know that the King room only accommodates 2 people. I was really just interested in what has happened when people arrive with more people than are on the reservation. I will respectfully disagree that it is not the same as 2 people wandering in off the street hoping for a last min room. All 4 people are in the same traveling party and willing to share sleeping space. Two random people are not trying to get placed in the same room as us. That would be Weird, or Perfectly acceptable if we are in a youth hostel in Europe. LOL!

If you're asking if Disney would waive their room occupancy rule and let all four of you stay in the room, there is zero chance of that happening. They're absolutely unbending on occupancy limits.

In their view, you were aware going in that only two people can stay in the room type that you booked, and they offer room sizes that can accommodate your party, so they have no obligation to do anything but direct you to reservations so that you can book a room that fits your party.

To the front desk CM, there are four people standing in front of her. Two of them have a reservation. Two do not. Doesn't matter how well all of you know each other, or that you're traveling together.

Good to know. Many Hotels are flexible, didn't know that Disney is not.

In this event the Deposit is forfeited, correct?

Not that I can see, Free Dining doesn't start till Aug, correct? My trip is in June 21 - 26th.
My mistake - I didn't even realize what the dates of your trip were when I replied. I was commenting based upon you stating that you now need to have the QS Dining Plan on your room. I was reading that as you needed to switch promotions in order to get a room that accommodated the number of people in your party. Sorry for the confusion.

FWIW I have read posts here where a family/group was removed from a resort room against their will (not physically; CMs/security stood outside the door) when they were over the occupancy limit. The post I can recall most clearly included extenuating circumstances: they were loud and disrupting the neighbors.

I doubt anyone would bother to rat out their neighbor for being over occupancy, unless they were pretty loud in middle of the night.

No they are not flexible.

It is not the neighbors they guests woudl need to be concerned with. It is the housekeepers on staff, as well as any other Disney staff. One thing I can say about DIsney resorts: the staff makes it a point to get to know their guests. It is good for business, but that same nicety is a problem if you are tryng to add additional people to a room. Will they be noticed? WHo knows, but would you want to be escorted off the property and forfeit your money?

It was a room only reservation that I added Dining to, then removed it months later. When I attempted to change the res from King to Pirate room the system threw up. LOL!!! It took 1:45 and 2 Tech support people to figure out that the only way for me to be able to move my res from King to Pirate room was to add the Dining plan back on the to Res again. So now it's a package again, and I have until May 20th to pay for the package in full or cancel without penalty.
CR was having difficulty adding the AP Room only discount to the res.
Not a technical issue. It's logistics. Clearly there were no quad-occupancy rooms available for these six consecutive nights at CBR with a room-only AP discount.

I was just wondering how accommodating Disney has been in the past, for people that have had last min changes to the qty of guests in a room
They cannot move such a party to an available right-size room when there is no such room.
will respectfully disagree that it is not the same as 2 people wandering in off the street hoping for a last min room. All 4 people are in the same traveling party and willing to share sleeping space.
You simply cannot have four people share a two person room. The Front Desk CM or Agent doesn't give a rat's patoot about the relationship among the four persons or who is willing to share what with whom. You cannot expect to be accommodated. In the current situation, the two people not on the reservation are equivalent to two strangers on the line.

I've searched the Forums for similar issues to mine, and not had a whole lot of luck finding threads.

Here is my problem in a nutshell. Staying at the C B. from June 21 - 27th. and When I was planning this Trip it was for DD (9) and I. Now my GF and her DD (14) want to come. I've called CR and was told that I can't modify my res for 2 adults and 2 kids since my Room won't support 4 people.

I asked to change the Res to 2 queens, and was told there are none available at this time.

My question for those of you that have done this, what likely will happen if I show up with 4 people for a 2 person res?
Keep checking daily, people always cancel or modify anx the closer it gets there will most likely be something open up. I had this happen to me over spring break. Party of 4 turned into 5. Very hard to find a 5 person room. Ended up having to book on line on my own as cm couldn't see availability on their end. Just keep checking something will pop open.

Now that you have a Pirate room this is an entirely different question you are asking from earlier when you had a King.

When you had the King room, yes it would be just like folks walking in off the street because they won't fit in your room so they would need their own room. They may or may not have a Q/Q room that all of you could move into especially given the time frame and since the hotel is showing as sold out for them ... they would likely offer you all the Pirate room if still available.

Now that you have gone ahead and booked the Pirate room, yes you can add them to you room. The question now is do you have the dining plan, because that is a package and comes with rules for you to add them in advance. What you can do is add them at check in but they would not have the dining plan. They would add them to the reservation and give them MagicBands. If you do not have the dining plan, and it's room only, then you can call and have them added.

I have seen a group escorted out that had more people staying in the room than those listed on the reservation. This was at CSR several years ago, but I doubt that Disney has changed their policies. The group lost their money and were not accommodated at another resort. This is slightly different, as they didn't disclose it ahead of time, but still close enough to the situation you were describing. They were removed for fire code violations. I did not get the impression from the desk CM that they bend on this at all.

I wouldn't think that people show up with more people than are on their reservation very often at Disney. Just because Disney is a very expensive vacation and most people cant drop everything to go with another last minute and have the funds to do so. Im sure it happens but I wouldn't think it happens very often so maybe that is why you aren't getting responses on that. Glad you were able to get a room booked that can accommodate your group. Sorry it took so much of your time to do it.
