Room Occupancy

Thanks,

That's the problem, Trip in in June of 2017. We are just about 45 days out from the trip. I agree with you on the Pirate room. I stayed there in 2006, and hated the beds. Fortunately I only stayed there for 2 nights before transferring to the Beach Club. I'd rather make the change to the room, and try to make changes at check-in to a queen room, or back to the King. Also need to be able to add GFand her DD to MDE now so that we can start booking FP for Pandora and others.
Problem is, if you can't book the room it means it's sold out and if it's sold out they can't really move you to one of those rooms when you arrive. You'd have to rely on a late cancellation. You can continue to check daily to see if a different room opens up. Otherwise, I wouldn't expect them to have a room to move you to. If they did, it would show on the website for booking

I have never tried to do this, but I would have to think that they would not allow you to check in to a room that does not have the bedding for 4 people. If you show up and they don't have a room that will accommodate your party you will most likely cause the reservation to be cancelled, you would probably lose the deposit (if it is a room only reservation) and you would be scrambling to find another hotel. Not my idea of a good way to start a vacation.

I suggest you try to find another resort that has the availability you need.

And if your GF and her DD are not on the reservation, they won't be able to make FP with you at 60 days, or ride on ME to even get to the resort. You can't just show up and think this will be okay

Just got off the Phone with CR. I am now booked for Pirate room after an hour and 45 min with technical support they figured out that I need to have the QS Dining package on my room. What ever! At least now I have a room that sleeps 4 adults.
Have you considered changing resorts? When I checked earlier today, AKL was about $60 more per night with the summer discount. Check the Disney website. Queen beds.
You can continue to check daily to see if a different room opens up.
Absolutely. Package cancellation deadline is 45 days without penalty. Rooms should open then.

Sounds like you're booked now under the Free Dining promotion. Did you always have the Dining Plan?

Not that I can see, Free Dining doesn't start till Aug, correct? My trip is in June 21 - 26th.

Ugh - 1:45 on the phone. Its so painful calling sometimes, huh?! Glad you got the room for 4, though. The theming is nice in the pirate rooms - I like staying at a resort (and dining at restaurants) at WDW that couldn't be just anywhere.
Just to manage expectations... Do you know about the construction at CBR? (I'd be fine with it, if I knew ahead of time.)

Yes I booked this back in February and then got an e-mail that announced that there would be some construction and then a nightly credit due to the const. Funny thing is when I spoke with CR they informed me that the e-mail blast was not supposed to go out to everyone that has ever stayed at an Disney resort. It was only supposed to go to a select few guests that would have been impacted by the const. Personally I don't care if the resort is being worked on. I feel the work has to get done sometime, so what ever, but I'm certainly not going to turn down Gift cards that I can use towards meals and stuff.

Yes I get that, just a new system that I wasn't counting on. Most other Hotels (in my exp) don't care if you have 2 or 8 in a room, you pay the same or at least a modest surcharge per night. The Switch from King to 2 Queens is normally a hard thing, since people that only need one bed would rather have the queen. forgot that Disney is a different animal. What I really was looking for in this thread was people that have shown up with more than the room they booked can handle and what Disney did. The CM I spoke with felt like "Surely they wouldn't turn you away". I'm very curious to know what others have experienced.

This I know, thank you very much. ME is not an issue as we'll be driving. I never said that I was going to just "show up and expect that everything will be "ok" The CM I spoke with felt like "Surely they wouldn't turn you away". I'm very curious to know what others have experienced.

It's an additional 360 plus fees for my stay. Not in the budget. I can make the Pirate rooms work, just not my first Choice last time I had them was back in 2010 and the beds were not very comfortable.

Absolutely. Package cancellation deadline is 45 days without penalty. Rooms should open then.

Thank you I now about the cancellation deadline, I'm just wondering about changes after the deadline passes.

After I got off the Phone with CR I wrote a very polite e-mail to Guest Relations recounting my experience with the Cast member, and Tech support addressing my issue and how crazy it is that I was on the Phone for almost 2 hours to make what should have been a simple change. I didn't ask for anything or make any demands of any kind. I'm just hoping that Someone that reads my story might sprinkle some Pixie dust on my trip. I'm tired of hearing about people ranting and raving getting Pixie dusted. What about those of us that are Kind and patient in times that would certainly be cause for some loss of both. I would love to show up and find that something cool has happened. I'm not expecting anything. I never do. fingers crossed.

That hasn't been my experience. I have a toddler who still sleeps in a crib and therefore doesn't need a "sleeping surface" and we always bring our own pack n play. But every single hotel has told me I need to list him in the reservation because of fire codes. I think a hotel would probably care if you had 4 unlisted guests in your room due to fire codes.

Yeah, no other hotel will allow a room with occupancy limit of 2 to have 8 guests in it. If they did, the fire dept would shut them down
Also, that's bananas and hard on the fixtures and softgoods.

What issue? That the rooms were sold out? Or that you can't put 4 in a room built for 2?

I tried to make the change to the reservation on-line and was told I had to call. When the CM tried to make the change for me she got an Error in the system, for which she had to call. And 1:45 min later they finally figured out that either they could cancel the res and start over or Add Dining to my plan (not something that I wanted or needed). So I informed Guest Relations of the issue. Partly so that Disney would have a chance to sprinkle some Pixie Dust, and partly because the whole thing could have been resolved in about 20 min when the CM called Tech Support the first and that rep made certain that the issue was resolved.

Have you ever been to anime or other Geek convention recently? It's common practice at these Cons to have 5 or six people in a room with only one bed. People crash on the floor or where ever. I don't do it anymore, but I did in my younger days.

If you have an AP room-only reservation shouldn't your cancellation date be 5 days instead of 45?

Didn't say it didn't happen. Did say it's against the rules and the fire dept can shut it down.

Yes. Home of Dragon Con, one of the very largest cons, all the hotels offer single/double, triple and quad occupancy. Any more than that in a room is breaking the law and ripping of the hotel. Does it happen? Yes. Does that make right? No.

I see no issue on Disney's part either. They can't change capacity rules, they can't offer a room they don't have unsold and they certainly don't owe any pixie dust.

I never said that they owe me anything. I'm never entitled to anything other than that which I paid for. The issue was that it took an 1:45 min to correct a booking change that in every other experience that I have had with Disney in over 20 years of vacations. I brought to Disney Management's attention so that 1) they could correct the problem with their system and processes. 2nd I am hoping that by highlighting my experience that perhaps someone will sprinkle some Pixie dust, but certainly do not expect that it will happen. If it doesn't happen I'll be dissapointed but certainly not upset. I've seen people get far mar for far less.

It was a room only reservation that I added Dining to, then removed it months later. When I attempted to change the res from King to Pirate room the system threw up. LOL!!! It took 1:45 and 2 Tech support people to figure out that the only way for me to be able to move my res from King to Pirate room was to add the Dining plan back on the to Res again. So now it's a package again, and I have until May 20th to pay for the package in full or cancel without penalty.

What a headache! I hope that things work out for you.

Me too. Oh! The horror! :bored:

I have a room for 4 people, so I'm set in that regards. I'm going to wait a few days before I try to remove the DDP. DD won't eat of the kids menu, and I don't want to eat QS for 2 meals every day. So I am crossing my fingers that when I call to remove the DDP it won't be a big deal.

Me too. Oh! The horror! :bored:

Yep! Still wouldn't trade those days for anything. . But yes 5 people in a room with one bed made for more than a few interesting smells. :rotfl2:

Dining is never a mandatory part of a reservation. What was their reasoning for making you add it?
