Room Not ready at check-in???

we just finished a split stay last week, at OKW and ASMo. We had rented a timeshare the week before, and had to be out by 10am, so we arrived at OKW at 9:30am. We were allowed to check in, given a room number, and they took our cell number to contact us when our room was ready (told to expect 5pm). At 5:30 we hadn't received a call yet, so I went to Guest Services and used their phone to check on availability. Told room was ready, but there was no note to call us. We left Epcot, to put our stuff in our room. When we got into our room, I wished the housekeeper had taken an extra half hour. When we closed the washroom door, there was confetti and giant 'dust bunnies' behind the door, and the tub was dirty.
When it was time to go to ASMo, we arrived at around 10am, and expected to repeat our experience, check in and wait. However, the CM asked where we wanted to be, we said it didn't matter, but would like to try Toy Story. He said he had a room ready, and we could get in immediately. The room was clean, and there was a towel goblin in the window. The next day, when we returned from the park, the room was spotless again, and mousekeeping had decorated our room. The made the curtains into a hammock, with DDs Pluto relaxing in it. Our stuffed Eeyore and Figment were laying on a pillow, facing the tv, with a remote in Eeyore's paw. There was even a towel Lightning McQueen on the table.
I guess it is all luck what you get. Mousekeeping and service at ASMo was excellent

One thing that I haven't noticed yet is the mentioning of the preassignment of rooms that Disney does. I really don't know of any normal resort that does this. A simple example:

Guest A wants a room on the first floor facing the pool. Room X on the first floor facing the pool is assigned to them. It's not ready yet.

Guest B doesn't care what floor their room is on but wants it facing the pool. Room Y on the second floor facing the pool is assigned to them. Room Y gets ready first.

Guest C checks in and wants their room now. Room Z had been assigned to them on the third floor facing the parking lot. It's not ready yet. So the front desk gives Room Y to Guest C as it's the only room ready.

Room X is ready so Guest A is happy. What to do about Guest B?

It's all a game of dominoes and one I would never want to be in control of.

Personally, unless you want to be the room assignor or the front desk person, I wouldn't criticize how things are run.

That did not stop DVC not having our room ready until 4.50pm, and the carpet was still not cleaned properly, and knocking on the door at 8.40am on the day we left to see if we were ready to leave!

Cathy, were you with us on our last vacation? That's EXACTLY what happened to us! Our carpet was wet, soaking in some areas, when we got into our room (it took 4 days to dry completely in spots) and on check out day, housekeeping knocked and keyed in at 8:30am!

Too funny...

I can't see Disney ever having so many maids that they can clean every room between 11am and 3pm. So someone is going to get an early morning knock to see if their room is ready to be cleaned. And others are not going to be able to get in to their room right at check in time. A 4 hour time frame is just not an adequate amount of time to get all of that cleaning done.

I might add that last year when we arrived at 1pm to check into POP, we were told we had to wait until 3-5pm for our room to be ready. We had made friends with the CM that was talking to guests by the waiting line and told her we were bummed that we did not get a room yet and thought we would be in the 60's buildings are we had paid preferred, and we had just driven 21hrs and wanted to unpack and relax. She told us to wait a minute and went up and got a room for us right away, with pool view and in the 60's building. It was great so I agree if it is not ready just ask about another room. I have to agree with my hubbies comments ASMO was far better then OKW, but we got a great deal on it, it is just starting to show its wear.
