What rooms are available for a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids). Do they allow 5 in a value or moderate resort?

They only allow 5 in a value if one of the kids is under 3 years old. You have the choice of Port Orleans with a trundle bed in the moderates. You can also go deluxe, like the CR or Poly or GF. They sleep 4 plus one in a daybed. There are also the Fort Wilderness cabins.

As the PP suggested, it depends on the ages of the children. If one is under three (not three or under) you can stay anywhere.

In addition to the options PP gave, you could also consider the All Star Family Suites, the BC, YC, BWI, and a deluxe room at the AKL. There is also a suite at the WL that sleeps six.

If your youngest is three or over, the most economical way to go would be the Port Orlans Riverside room with the trundle.

I did 2 rooms (connecting) at the Pop Century a couple weeks ago and it worked out great! Dollar wise is came about the same as what a mod would be and way less than a deluxe or cabin.

all the kids are over 3 years of age. I was looking at the music resort that has the family suite. It comes to about $13 more then connecting rooms at the value if I add 1 fridge. Just curious if there where any other options.

Thanks again.

Yeah, you'd have to do Port Orleans Aligator Bayou or a deluxe, excluding Wilderness Lodge.

Another decent option are the cabins at Fort Wilderness. They fit 6 and the price isn't as much as a deluxe.

moderate - POR - trundle
value - All Star Music - Suites (two rooms are little cheaper)
FW cabins
1-bedroom AKV
2-bedroom - any DVC resorts
wdw suites - CSR, Wl, Polyn, CR, GF, BC, YC, BWI, AKL

If you're booking room-only, then you should be able to fit all of those people in a room at a Deluxe hotel as they have queen-sized beds. I'd elaborate but don't want to start hearing the "you can't do that" or "that's not allowed" posts to invade your thread.:rolleyes1

We stayed with my family of 5 at the POLY this past March, it was very nice. We had 2 queen beds and 1 day bed which was very comfy for my son. The room is large and we thought it was worth the extra $ for the larger garden view room. We were on the 1st floor, Samoa building, facing the Volcano Pool area.

Next March we are going from a deluxe to the POR. I know the size of the room will be much smaller and we will only have 2 double beds and 1 trundle. I'm still on the fence about my decision. I always wanted to try a moderate, and we don't spend that much time in the room, but the size of the room is going to be significantly smaller.

I always wanted to get a cabin at FW they look nice and ASMU suites are very spacious, but before paying that $ I would check the rates on a garden view room at the POLY or CR.

I debated the same issue last summer when booking for this August.

For about $300 more (for the week) I was able to get us a room in one of the wings at the Contemporary. As a deluxe, it accomodates 5 (2 queens and a daybed.)

And we can WALK back from the Magic Kingdom if the monorail lines are too long. (Think tired 5 year old nearing a meltdown and needing a nap or a swim.)

It wasn't the cheapest option. But, big picture, it doesn't add all THAT much to the price of our vacation. And I'm betting it will pay off, big time, in convenience. We'll be able to take that mid-afternoon break that everyone suggests.... even split up if the older 2 kids are ready to keep going and my youngest isn't.

I'll second the wing room at the Contemporary. Very large rooms and comfortable for five. And being able to walk to the MK or take the monorail to Epcot is just a plus!

Leah - we spent time at POR also as a family of 5. You don't say the ages of your group but we were not comfortable there. It was very cramped with our luggage and when the trundle is pulled out, it is extremely difficult to get around the room (the door would not open). For that reason, we probably wouldn't go back. We are looking forward to trying Poly next but will be looking at Family Suites also.

We stayed with 5 people in one room at the Polynesian last July, and it was terrible. We had three adults, one teenager, and one child, and we never got out of the room before 9:30 AM. It was horrible, and I would never do it again.

We stayed in the Polynesian on our first trip with five. Two adults and three kids (11, 9 and 4). It was really pretty good in our room. No high maintenance hairdos or makeup.

I think the problem with the Polynesian and larger groups is that the sink is in the bathroom with the shower and toilet, making it difficult for shaving/toothbrushing/hair/make-up to be done at the same time as someone is showering or using the toilet. That problem doesn't exist at the other deluxes.

Here is a little info about the Family Suites.

They:

-Sleep up to 6 (plus one child under age 3 in a Pak-n-Play crib)
-Studio amenities and separate sleeping areas giving more privacy than a standard room.
-Queen bed, full-size pullout sofa, convertible ottoman & chair sleepers (4 separate sleepers)
-Private master bedroom and family room have 27” flat CRT TV and high speed internet access.
-Kitchenette with microwave, small refrigerator (4.3 cu. ft) and coffee pot
-Two-full bathrooms

--------------------------------------------------------------
*** They are 520 square feet.

*** The Family suites are located in the Jazz and Calypso buildings at All Star Music.(these are the closet buildings to the food court and the bus stop.

*** They cost less than a standard room at AKL or WL.

***1-6 adults may stay in a suite for the same set price.
(There is an additional fee of $10 per night for a 3rd or 4th additional adult in a standard value room.)

*** They have a QUEEN size bed (the other values and even the mods do not have a queen bed.

***The fridge is included (if you booked 2 connecting value rooms you would need to pay $10 extra for a night for a fridge if you wanted one.

*** They come with a microwave and coffeepot (If you booked 2 connecting value rooms you would not even be be able to rent a microwave and coffeepot.

***They have 2 TV's (if you book POR or a Deluxe room which sleeps 5 you will have 1 TV)

***They have 2 bathrooms (if you book POR or a Deluxe room which sleeps 5 you will have 1 Bathroom.)

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

We're a family of 5 as well. We stayed at the Poly last October and it was great. Our kids are 2,5 & 8 - we had plenty of room. I agree w/a PP that it would be nice if the sink was outside the bathroom so that others could get ready to go while someone showered. My way around this was just having the kids bathe or shower at night and then in the morning before DH would shower I'd have the kids brush their teeth, etc. So there is a way to work around it but it would be much more convenient if the sink/toilet area was separate from the shower area.

Our next trip (hopefully in 2009) I'm looking at one room in a deluxe again. All the deluxes w/the exception of WL (could fit in a deluxe room for mega $$$$) and AKL (could fit AKV- $$$$$) can fit a family of 5. GF, Poly & CR standard rooms are the largest. Some of the Poly rooms are 476 sq feet and from what I've read thats larger then CR & GF IF you can get those rooms. Epcot resorts are smaller but can still sleep 5. So we're looking at either the GF, YC/BC or BW for deluxes. I'd like to include CR on our list but unfortunately DH doesn't like the style of CR. I personally would book a garden view wing room in a heartbeat. CSR has a jr. suite that can sleep 5 (2 rooms would be cheaper but not guaranteed to be connecting). POR - can sleep 5 w/trundle but I would think it would be very cramped at 314 sq. ft. ASMu suites are on our list as well. So there are options in every category - value, moderate & deluxe. FW cabins look nice as well but DH doesn't like them. See I"m easy to please its DH thats the problem :rotfl:.

And of course renting points for dvc is an option as well. Not for us I don't think because the 2 bedroom would be way too big for my liking. Once the kids are older I would consider this option and maybe connecting rooms at a value or moderate.

Good luck and happy planning.
