Roaring Forks @ WL Closed Jan-March '06

I think one of the reasons RF is so crowded is that a lot of guest prefer not to go to Wispering Canyons for breakfeast. I love WC for dinner, but for some reason to me it is not a relaxing breakfast. Most folks just want to grab something quick...with no nosense...eat and go.

Since WL now has a direct bus to MK in addition to the boat I think they solved the transportation problems associated with the lodge. Fixing the overcrowding of RF will really help make a great resort even better.

I really look foward to going back someday and seeing what they come up with for the new RF.

They did move the arcade. It's next to the Mercantile, but I believe you have to exit the lodge as though you were going to the villas to get there. It's on your right as you're walking to the villas. My DS has just "discovered" arcades and we had a hard time getting him out of there. He loved the basketball game where he got to shoot some hoops!

I remember the RF before it expanded. Did they ever put an arcade in someplace else?
The arcade is now off the breezeway between the Mercantile and the VWL lobby.

Before the expansion when the arcade was next door the villas were not there, so really it was hardly ever crowded.

That hasn't been the case for many years. Generally, now, busses from the Disney resorts to the MK drop guests right at the entry to MK, not at TTC. (Busses from most off-site hotels heading to the MK still drop their guests at TTC.)

My sister and I stayed at the WL in May of 1998 and the Roaring Fork was still the one room. There was a lady near the cashier who was doing observations and making notes on a electronic pad. I spoke too her and she said they were monitoring the customer count, flow and experience. The started on the remodel the next year I think.

We just heard aout the refurb. DH is very upset. We hang out in the hotel a lot and enjoy the quick service stuff. We're not much for sit-downs especially with every meal. He's considering changing hotles.

I really don;'t want to leave WL..we're DVC there. Someone mentioned the grab and go stuff..does antone know what types of foods this might be?

What about Refillable mugs?

?

I asked exactly what that meant, and the CM at WL said "sandwiches, salads...things that can be packed in a to go box". Obviously not grill type stuff, Im guessing cold stuff only. Not sure about drinks. I imagine that if they are down for 3 months, there's going to have to be some sort of reasonable alternative.

The phone number to WL is 407-824-3200 in case anyone wants to call to see what answers they get. The secind time I called, the CM did confirm the reburb dates, but didn't have much info other than that.

Just so you know when you call the Resort Phone number you will not be talking to someone at the resort, you get the Disney Call Center where operators at a switchboard answer all the calls for all the resorts.

Well they answer the phone "Wilderness Lodge Resort" so somehow they know that's who I am calling. I guess it really doesn't matter where they are, they are answering the calls for WL.

Yes they answer Wilderness Lodge and that same person might answer the next call Beach Club resort.

My point being they will only be able to give you info they can find on their computer, not necessarily the most up to date info on what is happening at the resort.

The switchboard alerts the operator as to which resort line is ringing so the y know how to answer the phone. During my stays I have actually talked to the same person serveral times at different resorts and thought, man that lady gets around. ;)

I'm not happy about this at all, awhile back I had read on these boards that there was going to be some rehab. work done at WL sometime in Jan., then someone posted that nothing was going to happen, that it had been cancelled or postponed. If they're working on Roaring Forks will there be other work going on at the same time? I don't want to stay there if there is a bunch of noise, or a mess. My son gets sick from lots of dust and weird smells. How do I find out what's going on there?
Thanks

It would be great if they made it similar in menu variety to AKL cs restaurant. It stands out as being really good, and RF pales by comparison. I just don't see where they'd get the space to do that tho'. :(

Sammie that can't be true when actually staying in a room at the resort and calling the front desk right? I call down the front desk a bit when on my trips and ask something. The CM will give his their name and I might walk right down their to pick something up. The person I spoke to is the person at the front desk. I can't be imagining that right? LOL!

Yes its correct. Now sometimes you can asked to be transferred to the Front Desk and some call center operators will switch you. At sometimes the Front Desk will answer calls if they are also not busy.

But at prime hours, most all the calls even those made from the room, go to the Call Center to prevent the front desk from being interrupted.

I must luck out then because I always get the front desk at the Poly. I know some of the CMs there from my stays and they answer the phones. I've called all hours of the day and night too. I think it is a little deceiving though. On the room phones there is a button that actually says Front Desk. So now I'm being told that it might not be the front desk after all but someone in who knows where! I would think that being checked into the resort that when you want to talk to the front desk that it automatically goes there. I know the only reasons I've ever called the front desk is to ask something that only the front desk may know at that time like if my package came or my script was delivered. Strange.

I am unhappy too!!! I am going Jan 13-22 and my family really was looking forward to having a quick meal alternative. 3 months seems ridiculously long for a rehab. Will people go eat b'fast at the Trails End Buffeteria? Can you walk there from WL? Also I understood that there was a microwave at RF that we could use, does that mean that now there won't be that option? I guess WL will just lose out on money while they are working on it, we'll probably get a box of cereal and plastic bowls and eat in the room. Kind of disappointing though! :guilty:

Good thing they're doing this on the off-season, then.

Disney is really good about rehabs. I'm sure everyone could still have a great time on their vacation, despite the rehabs.

Oh I'm still planning on having fun!! My only issue is we're on the dining plan and we were going to be using some of our counter service meals at roaring forks. It sounds like the Grab-and-Go area will be mostly cold items. My kids like a hot breakfast in the morning.
My DH thinks we should switch resorts and I'm starting to think it might be a good idea.
