Roaring Forks @ WL Closed Jan-March '06

Jennsaint,

If the food court is that important to you, then I would switch resorts. Once you get to the parks, it's hard to take the time to eat breakfast.

AKL has a great food court (same price range), as do all the moderates. I don't really care for the quick meal options at the Contemporry, Poly or GF, but I don't eat breakfast at them so I'm no expert (plus they are quite a bit more expensive).

Bicker,

Thanks for the info on the bus route. I thought I saw on the Laughingplace.com transporation guide program that the bus dropped you at the TTC. I was surprised because I thought it went right to the MK.

I agree! if counter service is important to anyone, I surely wouldn't lose sleep over the closing of Roaring Forks. I'm there from Feb. 1-5 and didn't blink an eye when I heard it was closed. The only thing anyone would be missing is convenience. We drive to eat breakfast at WC when we are not staying at WL, so when we stay there, we eat breakfast at WC almost daily. Once you compare the price to a counter service breakfast, there is not that much of a difference. I personally would use my counter service credits at a food court like the value resorts for a decent meal (like dinner when we used the dining plan in September). Also there are actually some decent places to use CS credits, like the sunshine food court at the land, flame free barbque at AK, and the always great--harbor house at MK. Since RF is going to be close for awhile, I'm assuming this will be a major refurb. which it really needs. This is one place that is not user friendly.

I emailed WDW about the refillable mugs, and here's what they wrote me back:

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.

We contacted Disney's Wilderness Lodge who informed us that the refillable mugs will not be
available while Roaring Forks undergoes refurbishment. We are sorry our response is not a more
favorable one.

If you have questions or need further assistance, feel free to contact us.

A friend of mine used to work at Smart City, and took us on a tour. There was a call center there, and the CM's would answer the phone with whatever resort popped up on their screen. So no, you aren't getting the front desk. I have been transferred there a couple of times when I've needed to actually talk to someone directly, but overall - you aren't getting the resorts themselves. From what I remember, there were one or two resorts that didn't hook into the system and took the calls with their own CM's. I don't know if that is still the case, that was a few years ago.

:wave2: Hi
Now I'm really worried!!! I called the WL twice and both times were told that the refillable mugs are still usable and that they will be offering hot breakfast to go, you just can't sit in there. Why can't they get this straight!!! Anyone else heard this?

I hope you're right and the email I got was wrong. I don't think we'll really know until we start hearing from people who are there when RF actually closes. Apparently, DW can't get their info straight.

I was told they would not be selling refillable mugs during the rehab. Since the new policy is that the mug is only good for the length of stay and they won't be selling new ones, then there would be no place to use the old ones.

I was told all the beverages will be bottled or prepackaged so there will not be an area to do refills.

Guess those that bring mugs back will have to toss that idea out the window. At least during the rehab! LOL!

We're scheduled to stay at WL during the closing and today we got a letter in the mail.

This is what it said:

Dear Disney's Wilderness Lodge Guest,

We are delighted you have selected the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney's Wilderness Lodge as your vacation destination! Since opening day, this resort has become increasingly popular with Walt Disney World guests, as evidenced by the large number of repeat visitors we welcome.

In order for Disney's Wilderness Lodge and The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge to continue to flourish as a magical destination, it is necessary for us to make enhancements from time to time. Beginning January 9, 2006, Roaring Forks Snacks, our quick service dining location, will be closed to Guests so we may begin a refurbishment effort. We expect the work to be completed by late-March 2006.

During the refurbishment period, Whispering Canyon Cafe, our casual full service restaurant, will remain open offering family-style skillets and various a la carte options during the breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours. Artist Point, our fine dining restaurant, will also be available during the dinner hours. This restaurant features seasonal and regional market offerings from the Pacific Northwest as well as an award-winning wine list. We will also have a small selection of 'grab and go' dining items available within the resort. Trail's End Buffeteria, a buffet restaurant at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, will be open as well for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Thank you and we look forward to your upcoming stay. If you have any questions regarding your reservation, please call the Disney Reservation Center at 407-W-DISNEY (407-934-7639).

Sincerely,

The Cast of Disney's Wilderness Lodge

If anyone is interested in calling Disney resorts directly (without being routed to a call center) the numbers are available in the Unnofficial Guide. I always call directly, and never have a problem utilizing the OG's numbers. :)

Can you tell what number they have listed for Wilderness Lodge?
