Rittenhouse Verdict

Watching the actual trial vs. the mass media spin on the KR case, there are just no words there. The jury made the right decision in this case given the facts and evidence presented.

Yet would like to add, it's why we as parents are constantly pounding in our teens heads that decisions can have consequences that are life changing, life altering, and even life ending for yourself and even others. As parents, our minor teens wouldn't of never been in a HOT zone to begin with. It's ultimately a parenting fail. Case in point, a mother that went viral on TV for pulling her minor son from the riot crowd and beating him on live TV to go home. Just about everyone from all sides was stating Mother of the Year right there. Ultimately all of this was preventable if KR mother prevented him to go in the first place. Common sense was severely lacking here.

I'm sad that he was completely let off the hook, but not surprised.
Which counts do you think he should have been convicted of, and why?

Here are the charges. The bold and regular text are cut/paste from CNN, with their commentary deleted; the italicized comments are mine to fill in some of the facts of each incident.

Count 1: First-degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon
Count 1 states Rittenhouse recklessly caused the death of 36-year-old Joseph Rosenbaum under circumstances that showed utter disregard for human life.

Video presented by the prosecution shows Rosenbaum chasing Rittenhouse on foot, all the way across a car dealership parking lot, eventually catching up to him among several parked cars. Rittenhouse shot Rosenbaum four times.

Count 2: First-degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon
Count 2 states Rittenhouse recklessly endangered the safety of Richard McGinniss under circumstances that show utter disregard for human life.
McGinniss was a journalist and apparently in the line of fire, but was not injured.

Count 3: First-degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon
Count 3 states Rittenhouse recklessly endangered the safety of an unknown male, referred to as "jump kick man" in court, under circumstances that show utter disregard for human life. The man jumped at Rittenhouse at one point, trying to kick him and the teen opened fire.

Rittenhouse had been struck with a skateboard by Anthony Huber, and was laying on the ground when this person tried to kick him in the head. Rittenhouse missed, and this person was not injured. This person also refused to testify in the case.

Count 4: First-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon

Count 4 states Rittenhouse caused the death of 26-year-old Anthony Huber, with intent to kill him.

Huber struck Rittenhouse with a skateboard, which knocked Rittenhouse down and caused Huber to drop the skateboard. After the above victim tried to kick Rittenhouse, Huber picked up the skateboard and tried to hit Rittenhouse again and Rittenhouse then shot him one time.

Count 5: Attempted first-degree intentional homicide, use of a weapon

Count 5 states Rittenhouse attempted to cause the death of 27-year-old Gaige Grosskreutz, with intent to kill him.

After shooting Huber, Rittenhouse testified, he saw Grosskreutz lunge at him and point a pistol at his head. Rittenhouse shot him, he testified. Grosskreutz was wounded.

In his testimony, Grosskreutz said he approached Rittenhouse with a handgun in his hand but with his hands up. He testified he then pointed the handgun at Rittenhouse's head, and Rittenhouse then shot him once, striking him in the arm.

I can’t wait until the families of those killed sue Rittenhouse for all he will ever earn.
I'm not a lawyer but I suspect that the fact that a court just essentially ruled he had reason to fear for his life from those he killed will make a wrongful death suit a major uphill battle. I realize the standard of proof is lower in a civil trial but it seems like today's verdict will be a major roadblock for such suits. Had this been a case where his identity or his actions were in question then it would seem less of an issue but he can literally now point to a judgement in his favor that basically makes him legally the victim.

Very, very sad, but that is our law, we are entitled to a jury of our peers.

Over the years, innocent people have been wrongly convicted of crimes, guilty people have been wrongly found not guilty of crimes. This is an example of the latter. But it is the law.

Last time I checked, defending yourself is not a crime........and the jury agrees with me!!!

Domestic abuser and child molester. Fine upstanding citizens.
There were five victims in this case. I don't know about the journalist who was apparently a bystander, but all four of the other victims had criminal records of varying levels of seriousness.

Rosenbaum, the person who chased Rittenhouse and was the first to be shot, had done some serious prison time for child molesting. He had also just been released that same day from an involuntary mental health confinement, apparently because he attempted (or threatened) to take his own life.

Their criminal and/or mental health backgrounds, however, are irrelevant to the case and were not revealed to the jury.

edit: acknowledged and corrected myself after realizing how I misspoke. I believe I confused this case and the Arbery trial in my mind. I was reading about both when I posted. But no excuse for myself with that one. My mistake fully.

I have to wonder, among other things, if the outcome would have been the same if the race of Rittenhouse was switched.
