This is really going to affect mine (and probably everyone's) rope drop strategy. The "problem" with Hollywood Studios is that there are a LOT of big e-ticket attractions. So at rope drop do you head to RotR, SR, MMRR, SDD, RRC, or ToT? There are a lot of big decisions to make. I'll be interesting to see what everyone does and what does or doesn't work once this starts happening, and once Genie+ starts. Sorry to those with late September or early October trips! Like someone said above, you are our guinea pigs!

ROTR without a doubt is going be the biggest draw making those who buy a lightening lane pass, stay on site, and rope drop set up for a great first hour in the park IMO. Those who don’t? Not so much…

The virtual queue was terrible!

You had to have the fastest fingers, fastest technology, and fastest Internet connection to get a BG. The system heavily favored local annual passholders who could try day after day, knowing exactly where they got the fast connection.

That's no way to run an attraction like ROTR.

At least with a Standby line, those who really want to do it are going to wait for it.

Those who have already ridden ROTR 50 or more times are going to ask themselves, "Do I really want to ride a 51st time?"

I don't know, I got a BG every single time I tried using Disney Wifi from my Hotel Room....

I get the lottery system sucks especially for those on a once in a lifetime trip, but now those people will gladly plunk down $25 a piece to get a guaranteed slot to ride.

Side question: Um, how visible is the LL queue compared to the standby queue? That actually might be a deal-breaker for me. If I have to walk past standby to get through LL, I don't know if I could handle that.

Standby and Fast Pass were often right next to each other for at least part if not all the que. I don't imagine it's much different for LL.

Actually my question would be how much of the atmosphere do you skip/miss by doing Lightning Lane? Don't get me wrong I'll take the shorter line but sometimes it's kind of a bummer to miss the theming.

Right, the (very?) infrequent visitor will pay the $24 (or more?) per person, which is what Disney wants.

I was at Guest Relations a few months ago and a Cast Member was explaining how Boarding Groups worked to a Guest. The CM was professional but you could tell by her voice that the CM knew this Guest had no chance of getting a BG.

I would have preferred a system where Disney gives everyone a one-hour window to sign-up (say from 6 AM to 7 AM), and then use a random number generator to determine who actually gets Boarding Groups out of the pool of those who had signed up.

They won’t give a dam. They wlll be more concerned with refunding the people that paid $25.

What did they do for FoP? I'm guessing they issue FP (or now will be LL). Maybe they just give you a LL for other rides? It's not like they've never had rides with lines that long before. I recall specifically seeing FoP over 3 hours and also SDMT.

Same thing they did for 7DMT and FOP. Not much, that's part of the gamble. I know when Frozen kept going down they did a anytime fast pass, but I don't remember if they did that for FOP.

LOL they gave up guest recovery years ago.

I remember it used to be if you got a confirmed boarding group, and didn't get called you got a free park ticket for reimbursement.

I know they'll just refund anyone who purchases the chance to ride Rise, but people will still be upset.

I'm sure Disney will add some small print that there isn't a promise about being able to ride the ride and nothing extra will be given to anyone outside of a refund if they purchased priority access. The people in standby might get a regular "FP" for anything not named Rise or Remy.

It happens on many attractions including FOP, which can have a 3-hour or more wait. Yes, a lot of angry Guests.

In the past, they've given everyone in line a FP+ that could be used anywhere. You can either use that on another attraction or hope that the attraction you want comes back on line later.

Yes, it's an attempt to push more people into buying IA$ but the VQ process was really a pain in the butt as well and at least previously if you were shut out of a VQ that was it. No chance to ride. Now at least you have two choices to ride. Wait in a really long line or pay. Neither is a good choice, but at least you won't be completely shut out.

I agree with this. I only go every two years. I was so worried about being cut out then not being able to try for two years. This at least gives more opportunity then before. I’m anxious to see what happens when this starts.

Our HS days are Sept. 24th and 27th. I'll totally pay for that ride (once) to avoid a huge line and rope drop slinky dog or something.

Thats what they are counting on.
As much as I was not a huge fan of the VQ, I much prefer that to a huge standby line. With the VQ, I had somewhat of an idea when I could ride and could do other things while waiting. Now you'll be stuck in the line for a long time instead.

I 100% agree with this. And it's driving me insane. I have been planning disney trips for 3 decades and have never had such absurd constant changes. I drink the disney kool-aid pretty hard, so for me to be frustrated enough to even consider pushing off a trip is saying something. I know it's a pandemic, but this is not the polished company that I've admired forever. Every day they've been changing something. My list of questions I need answers to is growing LONGER daily.

Here's one:
Does anyone know WHEN we will be able to purchase IA$$$? Because if it's at 7am, and the alternative is standby, I'm going to have to be already awake getting ready to leave for rope drop (or gone). This isn't as big a deal for DHS because we also would be happy to rope drop other rides but at AK, FoP is the only thing we get up to rope drop.

And an observation:
Some have said that this is an improvement because if you didn't get VQ, then you didn't have a chance to ride it at all. However, if you don't get in line before it reaches 8 hours or whatever cutoff they choose (which I believe it will be VERY long waits), then you still may not get to ride it.

Once I see how much the IA$ for this costs, I'll make a final decision but $30 pp would be hard to swallow for our party of 5. Will probably have to skip this one for myself as we were lucky enough to get VQ twice in the spring.
