Richard Petty Driving Experience

Go into the entrance just like you are heading into the MK. Instead of taking the right side of the road to go park, you will take the left side of the road as if you were going to head back out. The parking lot is there on the left. There are plenty of signs. :cool1:

as of last Feb you can also take a shuttle from TTC near the kennel/lost&found building.
I think it is still there.

I gave this as a surprise to my DH a few years ago,the Rookie Experience, he still swears it was the best gift he's ever gotten in his life (other than me)(oh,yeah, and the kids too!! :teeth: )

Same here. But a word of advice, plan the ride early in your trip so if you get rained out (like my DH did :guilty: ) you can reschedule for later in the week. For my DH the only day he could reschedule to was our last day and he opted to take a "rain check" which he ended up using back here in Michigan that spring. He ended up being very happy because MIS is a 2 mile oval and he could get up to faster speeds than on the 1 mile oval at Disney.

The day he got rained out he had to take a cab from BWI to the speedway to get his rain check (he could have rescheduled over the phone). The RPE guys were so nice. They gave him a ride in the track van around the oval and in the pit area. Then they gave him a ride back to the BWI rather than drop him at the TTC.!! :goodvibes

When we did it at MIS it was awesome. The RPE staff is so helpful and friendly. They made each guy/gal feel so special and they were great to the kids and non-riding spouses. We got a ride around the track and got to stand up on the elevated pit row roof so we could film our riders.

I highly recommend RPE! :thumbsup2

My DH did this at Disney a few years ago. He did the Ride Along, which was a few laps with a professional driver. It was fun to watch! For Father's Day I got him the Rookie Experience (8? laps driving by himself- top speed was 149!) , which he did at Michigan. He LOVED it!!!! He kept talking about it for weeks. If he is into NASCAR, he will LOVE IT!!

what is the cost of the Rookie Experience and it's safe right?
Also, is there a discount for PAP's?

I also would like to know. My DH always makes sure that we have all of the extras, so it would be nice to surprise him with this.

You can go to 1-800bepetty (sorry can't post url's yet )and it will list the tracks, dates and prices. Right now it says that Walt Disney is $399.00 plus 6.5% tax for the rookie experience. Rookie experience is driving 8 laps. My boyfriend has done it twice and loved it. He laso did the ride a long which he insistes is a must :thumbsup2

I agree with planning it early in the trip. Also, if you do it in the morning (which I recommend), don't plan anything important for the rest of the day. After DH did it, he was on such a high for the rest of the day that even though we went over to Epcot for lunch, he didn't remember what he ate or where he was. And he spent the rest of the day calling everyone he knew back home (and I suspect a few people he didn't know!) so he could tell them all about it.

I purchased the Rookie Experience for my DH and he will be using it when we go in March. It is $399, but if you get the Orlando Magicard, and tell them when you schedule it you get a 10% discount (every litle bit helps). He's really looking forward to it.

i have a few questions about the rookie exerience:

1. what is the top speed for the track at WDW?

2. are the cars standard, auto, SMG?

3. has anyone ever crashed? Did it look cool?

im looking to do the rookie experience in March, and i have these few questions before i spend the 400+ dollars.

Thank you all in advance for your replies.

One last thing, is there a certificate that you recieve and is it just for looks, or do can i use it to do more work on another track?

You may want to try undercovertourist for the RPRE at $360, here's a link I hope.. http://www.undercovertourist.com/un...hard-petty/walt-disney-world-speedway.html#12
If you're a AAA member I think it's another $20 or so cheaper.

I think top speed was around 125 mph which was why my DH was happy to re-schedule for MIS where he ran 145!

The cars are standard shift cars, no automatics.

Nobody crashed at our site and there were probably 25 drivers that day. They put a pace car in front of you and tell you to follow his line on the track. They talk a lot about not tailgating the pace car. My DH was irked before hand, worried the pace car would slow him down. What a joke, he could hardly keep anywhere near it's pace! :rotfl2:

The certificate was a nice souvineer, not sure what exactly you are asking.

They also discount returning "drivers". DH has done this twice - once for his 40th BD and in late Dec. He has enjoyed it both times.

The upsell picture in your suit and car make a great souvineer also (I don't remember the price).

You get a certificate and sheet that lists each of your lap times.

You must be able to drive a stick shift (manual) car.

They emphasize saftey - I don;t know about crashes but they would be bad for business. They insure the cars as long as you were following directions.

Top Speed at Disney is 120.

My husband is planning our anniversary trip to WDW in October, and I keep thinking I should plan this for him as a surprise, its not my kind of romance but maybe its his! LOL
