Has anyone else heard this? Apparently they are doing away with the clubs on the lake side (club adventure etc...) to put in more contracted restaurants. Not crazy about this idea... anyone else know more?

There's at least one thread on the topic here. about the Adventurer's club in particular.

I go to Disney World to get away from the chain restaurants! If they can't come up with something better than this to do with PI I don't think they're using their imaginations.

Here's the thread about the AC possibly being closed, as well as discussion about the whole of PI.

Sarangel

Why sorry? It's just cumbersome to have multiple threads going on about the same topics, so we'd (and I'm sure I'm speaking for most of my cohorts here) prefer one thread, one topic. It's not a rule or anything (that's sarangel's department), but most of the time people will just ignore a duplicate thread.

However, we would love to hear your views and observations...Welcome.

Now now, you may be misunderstanding Pete, Maybe she read the thread, rightly decided we're a bunch of Loons and is sorry she even came to this corner of the Dis.

Actually Im sorry because now Im a little bummed that it might be true. I was hoping one of you would say that it was just a horrible nightmare I had. BTW you guys are great ;) .

It would be interesting to compare Universal's City Walk with DTD and how the fare against each other.
Does City Walk generate more income per square foot? And if this rumor is true, could Disney be looking at City Walk to see how they could copy their trend?

City Walk has 'chains' but they are unique and rare. A Pat O'Briens and a Margaritaville are still unusual enough that they can attract the crowds. I would hope that Disney would be cautious enough to stay away from the more common establishments to avoid people thinking "we can enjoy that place at home".

You mean like Irish pubs?

Last I heard, this is a done deal.

JK but how bout that we're going to sizzler we're going to sizzler we're going to disney we're going to sizzler.

They will change it and if doesn't work out they'll convince you it was a good thing and is working.

I (as an owner now ) think this might have to do with SSR not the noise or anything but just more close dining choices with sitdowns instead of clubs.

That seems rather short sighted even for current Disney. If they're just doing this to give SSR more dining, then perhaps they should have just built more dining into the resort. Or given them better Transport. And anyway, aren't there still asome resturants in the former village marketplace?

Well -- RFC (chain). And many can say "Have that at home." :confused3
Cap'n Jack's.
Earl of Sandwich

Even West end has chains, although SOMEWHAT unique. But certainly not unique to all, as those from Chicago, LA, NYC. etc.

Not a lot of difference now between DTD and City Walk.
Examples:
Wolfgang Puck's vs Emeril's...
Planet Hollywood vs Hard Rock Cafe
Both have movie theatres.

About the only unque thing in DTD is Disney Quest and the comedy clubs. :confused3

And not saying DTD SHOULD be like City Walk.
I see City Walk as just an inconvenience to walk through to get to where I want to go. ;)

I always kind of figured CityWalk more or less copied Disney. In addition to the above:

Beach Club v. Margaritaville (both feature live rock cover bands in a beachy atmosphere--lately, it's even been the same bands at both clubs)

Mannequins/Motion v. Groove (especially once they removed the theming and dancers from Mannequins)

Comedy Warehouse v. CityJazz (Thurs.-Sun., CityJazz is a comedy club; I'm not sure they have any jazz at all anymore, much like PI)

AC v. Pat O'Briens (the only real stretch, but both are "fun" clubs with sort of an old-time feel that stress audience participation; also, a lot of jokes are told at PO'Bs, and a lot of songs are sung at AC)

HoB v. Hard Rock Live (live music venues)

Both had magnet shops--I mean, really, shops devoted to just magnets? Bit of a coincidence... :)

In any case, I think Universal realized they could have a ton of (still fairly unique) chain restaurants, but they they also need the clubs to ring pople in. Let's hope Disney does the same.

naw, they should just skip developing their own unique restaurants and bring in a Chilis, Applebees, and Fridays. Now those happening places would really draw me to PL :rolleyes2

I'm not sure CityWalk copied PI...there was already a CityWalk in Universal California (a better executed CityWalk IMHO). I've never been to CityWalk, Florida at night but I did enjoy the convenience of Margaritaville for lunch and Emeril's was great.

Whatever isn't getting foot traffic should get yanked. They could use more convenience foods...maybe they should check out the Salty Dog in HHI for ideas.

I really think they need to "re-vamp" the Pleasure Island area. I think that non-known resteraunts will be better than "chain" resteraunts. They already have Rainforest they need to add Cheesecake Factory and possibly Marquiritavilles would be nice. Do away with 8-trax, Beach club, etc.
