Restaurant reviews and recipes...formerly Disney QOTD

I know this has nothing to do with Disney or exchanges, but I had to share this picture from last weekend's trip to VA. It's my dad with 8 of his 14 grandkids!

We never have out of town /state guest.

Missy nice picture. :)

We take visitors to Silver Dollar City (an amusement park) or to the Outlet Malls, both in Branson, MO. Or to the ORIGINAL Bass Pro Shops in Springfield MO.

We live about 20 miles from Branson, 10 miles from Springfield, so it just depends on what everyone is in the mood for. Generally speaking, we end up doing all of it if they are in town for several days.

Speaking of Silver Dollar City. We went yesterday. Today school started so took the boys for one last day of fun before hitting the books. We like SDC and usually buy season passes each year. It just doens't compare to WDW! I know it is a totally different experience. But even in the small things. Like we were riding the train and I was noticing the paint on stuff. It had been painted and repainted and you could see the different layers peeling, or where they just painted over but you could see the outline of the peeling of a different layer. Anyway, I was thinking about how that would be SO unexecptable at WDW. Which I'm glad Disney takes the time and care they do. It just reminds me that it is the total package at WDW. You walk in and you are transformed to a different world. :thumbsup2

We have relatives that live in Louisianna that LOVE SDC that have never been to WDW. They wonder why we drive all the way to Florida to go to WDW when we have SDC in our back yard.... hmmm :rolleyes1

Nice photo Missy.....great looking family.

I live about 45 minutes from Seattle, so lots to do there too.
Our favorites are the zoo, Space Needle, Pike Place Market, wharf area with lots of cute shops and great restaurants.
Lots of great shopping malls too.
Also outdoor activities......anything you can think of.
For a farther drive, Leavenworth. Cute little Bavarian town with lots of cute shops.
Beaches are close.

Here is AZ......well, that I need to explore more.
The zoo is nice. Need to get to Grand Canyon.
Las Vegas and DLR are each about 6 hours away......plan on a lot of visits to both of those when we get moved.

I spent a day in Seattle on the way home from the Alaskan cruise--I loved it, I want to go back. We did go to the Pike Place market, the aquarium, and Safeco to see the Mariners play the Oakland A's.

I'll come to visit you! Where will you take me??:cool1::banana::cool1:
I need to get away or I'm gonna hurt my boss....

Lets see...
We could go to Gettysburg (the most haunted battlefields in the US)

Valley Forge

Hershey Park, Dorney Park, & Knoebels (although its not Disney)

If you like shopping there is the Crossing Outlets in Tannersville

Of course we are not far from NY, so plenty to do there.

Sorry to anyone from NJ, but we would never take anyone to Six Flags. During a trip to Disney back in 2001 or 2002 we meet a family from NJ and they won't even go, they say its to dangerous.

Hope things improve with the boss soon.

A duck tour is always fun too.....and whale watching! Love it even without out of area guests.
Not too far from Canada. A ferry ride is nice....and go to Victoria, BC

If it is April the tulip fields are incredible!

Well I live in AZ only a few miles away from the Petrified Forest/Painted desert and only a few hours from the grand Canyon. So those are places we always take visitors. We also love to go to Sedona, it's a beautiful drive and great scenery.

I think I need to make a list--I really want to see the Grand Canyon some day.

We live about an hour and 1/2 from Washington, DC with lots of things to do around our capital. Plus, I love heading to the inner harbor in Baltimore, there's lots of shops and restauants. Gettysburg isn't that far and a nice place to visit as well. Hershey Park is wonderful and we really enjoy visiting Hershey, PA. We also head down toward Kings Dominion, a park near Richmond, VA, it's about a 3 hour drive. We have lots of fun and entertaining things within a short drive from our home here in MD.

That is so sad, Heidi :(

WE'll use Alisha's question for today ;)

What do you eat that other people find weird/yucky!

I like sauerkraut perogies. Grew up with a Russian grandmother! :)

mmmmm.........question for today

What are the favorite things that you like to do when you have out of town (or out of state) visitors?

Well, the Amish are all around--everyone wants to see the horse and buggies. Not hard, they drive on my street!
Hershey Park, Green Dragon, yikes...can't think of many things close by!

Where about in AZ. My house here is in Chandler :)

I've never been to your part of the country... I'm there!! I would LOVE to go to Gettysburg. I want to see the ghosts!! ( and see the historical sites :rolleyes1) I think I'm gonna quit my job and become a Ghost Hunter. I can start my own branch of TAPS!

Mmmm... Hershey Park! I want to take one of the chocolate spa days where you soak in a tub full of the stuff! Does the whole park smell like Chocolate?

On the boss front... it wont ever get better. He is an idiot! Seriously, the rudest, most self centered, LAZY man I have EVER known.

btw... I work at a church... he is the pastor!:scared1: We even have quit attending there and go somewhere else. But I can't quit, because I take Gavinn to work with me. It is the only place I know I can work PT making a decent wage, and take my children with me. Even if I quit and went to work FT I couldn't clear what I do now with Gavinn in daycare. All of the longtime members know how he is but they have had too much upheaval in the past and just put up with him. Kinda sad actually!

So I just bite my tongue, and invite myself to other people's homes!! :rotfl2:
(and play on the disboards of course! :surfweb:)

No the park doesn't smell like chocolate, but they have a nice big Hershey store.

I am sorry about your boss, especially since he is the pastor.

I would like to go to Hershey park too ::yes::

That doesn't sound like a fun boss at all, Alisa, but glad the pay and childcare meets your needs.

Non Disney QOTD:
If you could go to one state that you have NOT been to before for a couple of weeks, which one would it be and what special things would you want to do?

Alaska

My DH and I would love to visit Alaska, I've seen photos and it's just beautiful, so we would travel around the state and do as much sightseeing as possible. My sister visited last year and just loved it.

That's a hard question, since the 2 states I'd like to visit, I've been there already: Alaska & California. I've been to Disneyland, and while there we spent a day in San Diego. I loved DL & SD & want to go back, plus I want to go to San Francisco. But that's not what the question asked. I guess my answer would be Arizona, since I've never been there, and I really want to see the Grand Canyon. I'd also like to see the Diamondbacks play--I've always wanted to go to each MLB stadium.

You can come visit me in AZ, Missy :) When we get moved in all the way, we will have 2 guest rooms ;)

I guess for me, I would want to go to Washington DC and see all the historical things......or New York.
