So we're still looking into DVC but at a reduced number of points, thinking of buying more later. So if I understand correctly, all the DVC resorts have kitchens. I noticed that it costs less points to stay at "regular" disney resorts. Do any of them have kitchens?
Generally, the non-DVC resorts cost more points per night than DVC resorts and you are getting hotel rooms vs. complete villas. I don't think any other WDW resorts have kitchens (except the Wilderness Homes). Some deluxe suites may have microwaves and/or refrigerators.
The studio accomodations at the DVC resorts have kitchenettes -- microwave, coffeemaker, dorm size refrigerator, toaster. All the other DVC units have full size, fully stocked kitchens.
No, the regular resorts do not have kitchens in their rooms. Dvc studios do not have kitchens, they have kitchenettes(refrig, microwave, coffee pot, toaster). Once you get into a one bedroom villa, all DVC's have full kitchens, including dishwashers and garbage disposals, and all the dishes, etc.
Regular resorts do not cost less--you are staying in a regular motel room for around 35 pts per night, versus about 14 points per night for a studio. For 35 points in a DVC villa, you are getting two bedroom and 2 bathrooms. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
Thanks for the quick responses, looks like I was seeing "points per night" and thinking it was the same as the DVC resorts that I was looking at which were "points per week".

I still think you are confused. You can stay at Non-DVC or DVC resorts on points (and many other options) on a nightly basis. The best use of points is at DVC resorts. Since you are going to be going soon, I would take the DVC tour, let them explain how it works, and ask tons of questions. If you decide to buy DVC, you have two options. One is through DVC, the other is through a reseller.
I would recommend that after you get back and get the info from DVC, talk to a reseller before putting pen to paper. That way you get to hear all of your options. You do not loose any benefits buying through a reseller like other timeshares. But their are + and - to both. (ie: financing, etc).
Satatoga Springs is the newest DVC resort. It's membership lasts 12 years longer than the other DVC resort memberships. But, if you like one of the other DVC resorts you can still buy there. Sometimes DVC has inventory, or you can get it through a reseller. A reseller sponsors this site. Check the top of the screen
