I've brought this up passe a couple of times over the years, but given the traction in the 'would you sell your DVC if APs were no longer available?' thread (Thank you for that!), I thought it might be fun just to 'formally' run this flag up the pole just to see how many people salute in this small, but significant, subset of owners.
Let's concede a couple of stipulations here, if I may, though you are certainly free to interject below should you disagree or desire to add.
The biggest one in my opinion, would be that you come to the Greater Orlando area primarily to visit WDW. I don't think it would be fair to the poll data if your family comes to FL 4 times a year to go to Disney, and spend half that time in accommodations offsite, wherever that may be, and wherever else you may wander on such trips. You are a classic AP/MYW candidate, and this poll isn't really intended for you.
Nor is this poll intended for anyone that is a FL resident, especially in close proximity to the parks, even though you may be a DVC owner. Now if your time in the parks is exclusively limited to DVC stays despite your residency status, by all means this question does apply to you. Of course. But I doubt there are many of those, especially those in fairly close proximity,
Let's also concede that this scopes itself (potentially) beyond just the DVC resorts, of course. I know families that come 2-3 times per year and stay at moderates and values and simply don't see the value in DVC for them. These folks generally shop the deals and what they do works for them. But they primarily spend their FL vacation dollars exclusively at WDW (as above, when primarily visiting WDW, of course). Disney would be remiss to ignore these folks in a ticket offering such as I'm proposing as well.
Now, having laid all that out there, would you and your family buy an AP that was exclusively tied to resort only stays? This pass would be exclusively for the 4 major gates. Maybe there's an upcharge for WP&M, but maybe not. Let's not even throw that part in there for purposes of this poll. As with any AP offering, however; PH is, of course, included.
If you're not booked and on record as a resort guest, this pass doesn't get you in a gate. Since this is all hypothetical anyway, let's throw options out there for both a non-blackout/open date pass, and a pass with limited blackout dates, but no carte blanche weekend blackouts. Since this pass is exclusively for resort guests and hence mostly non FL residents, let's assume it's offered at a discount from what's available now. Maybe not a huge discount, but they're selling this knowing you aren't here 2-3 times a week every week of the year. You're here for a few days a year, but at a visitation level where something like an AP makes sense anyway. Of course, this is a one-payment pass. There is no monthly pay option (But boy wouldn't that be nice for DVC owners!?! Oh the tangent I could take on that one alone. But I digress...) .
This pass is different, and it offers an advantage to Disney. You are 'locked' into on-site resort stays to use it, and you need to come enough and spend enough to cost-justify it. It's a win-win offering for Disney to make in my opinion. If you disagree, feel free to share your thoughts below.
