I've brought this up passe a couple of times over the years, but given the traction in the 'would you sell your DVC if APs were no longer available?' thread (Thank you for that!), I thought it might be fun just to 'formally' run this flag up the pole just to see how many people salute in this small, but significant, subset of owners.

Let's concede a couple of stipulations here, if I may, though you are certainly free to interject below should you disagree or desire to add. :)

The biggest one in my opinion, would be that you come to the Greater Orlando area primarily to visit WDW. I don't think it would be fair to the poll data if your family comes to FL 4 times a year to go to Disney, and spend half that time in accommodations offsite, wherever that may be, and wherever else you may wander on such trips. You are a classic AP/MYW candidate, and this poll isn't really intended for you.

Nor is this poll intended for anyone that is a FL resident, especially in close proximity to the parks, even though you may be a DVC owner. Now if your time in the parks is exclusively limited to DVC stays despite your residency status, by all means this question does apply to you. Of course. But I doubt there are many of those, especially those in fairly close proximity,

Let's also concede that this scopes itself (potentially) beyond just the DVC resorts, of course. I know families that come 2-3 times per year and stay at moderates and values and simply don't see the value in DVC for them. These folks generally shop the deals and what they do works for them. But they primarily spend their FL vacation dollars exclusively at WDW (as above, when primarily visiting WDW, of course). Disney would be remiss to ignore these folks in a ticket offering such as I'm proposing as well.

Now, having laid all that out there, would you and your family buy an AP that was exclusively tied to resort only stays? This pass would be exclusively for the 4 major gates. Maybe there's an upcharge for WP&M, but maybe not. Let's not even throw that part in there for purposes of this poll. As with any AP offering, however; PH is, of course, included.

If you're not booked and on record as a resort guest, this pass doesn't get you in a gate. Since this is all hypothetical anyway, let's throw options out there for both a non-blackout/open date pass, and a pass with limited blackout dates, but no carte blanche weekend blackouts. Since this pass is exclusively for resort guests and hence mostly non FL residents, let's assume it's offered at a discount from what's available now. Maybe not a huge discount, but they're selling this knowing you aren't here 2-3 times a week every week of the year. You're here for a few days a year, but at a visitation level where something like an AP makes sense anyway. Of course, this is a one-payment pass. There is no monthly pay option (But boy wouldn't that be nice for DVC owners!?! Oh the tangent I could take on that one alone. But I digress...) .

This pass is different, and it offers an advantage to Disney. You are 'locked' into on-site resort stays to use it, and you need to come enough and spend enough to cost-justify it. It's a win-win offering for Disney to make in my opinion. If you disagree, feel free to share your thoughts below.

So?

My brain is dull. I read the post twice. If you're asking about people who fly into Orlando, get to disney and stay for 7 day and goes home. That's us. We don't drive elsewhere. Though we do get off site groceries, so all our money doesn't go to disney.

In over 25 years, the only time I’ve gone to a park without a resort stay was when I was in Orlando on business and was in a company paid hotel. And that was probably less than 5 nights total.

He just wants to know if you would buy an AP that is only good when you are staying at an on site resort.

I got long-winded, as I do. Apologies for that.

I don't think contributing an answer to the poll would be fair to the poll should someone routinely spend half their trips in off-site accommodations, whatever they may be, and knowing going in that they were going to do that. This really doesn't apply to those type people at all so them voting in the poll (likely 'No') could significantly skew the poll data. This is like the Disney park surveys where the first question is "Do you work for Disney" and if you answer 'Yes,' the rest of the questions and the survey closes. Hope that makes sense.

See? Now this may change someday, and probably will, but I never go down unless I'm staying on-property. Even if we go to the dark side, we've still only stayed exclusively at WDW resorts. I don't need an annual pass to go down 'on a whim.' I need gate entry exclusively when we're staying at WDW, and that's what we always do. I'm betting there a LOT of DVC owners just like us. I know there are DVC owners that are outliers to this and rent houses and other hotels/timeshares, but I bet the vast majority of owners are just like us with regards to where they stay when they come down. I bet there are far more people like this than most of us think that are not DVC owners also.

I've had many on-site stays and a few off-site stays. I do prefer staying on property. Part of this is that my home resort is AKL and there is not anything comparable off-site as far as the resort experience. If I had an AP tied to Disney resort only stays I'd buy it in a minute as long as the price wasn't absolutely ridiculous.

It sounds a lot like the original "free" pass program, where direct purchasers got free tickets only when staying at a DVC resort. That was a sales incentive for early purchasers...but as others said, it would depend upon the price as to whether I'd buy that type of pass. Likely I would buy it.

(I'm not looking to actually renew my sorcerers pass as the November renewal date is bad for me. I would buy a new AP with a different renewal month, though. If there isn't a reasonably priced option (well better than the regular passes) then I'd probably do fewer Disney park days and would spread my business to other parks and classic area attractions, since there is no longer Magical Express to keep me onsite.

Unfortunately, there may very well be more space for an offering like this when APs come back with their probably price increases. History supports this deduction.

Im up for whatever AP fits my travel style for the right price.

Right now, Sorcerer renewal is $764 plus tax so I am not sure how much less they could price it.

Maybe similar to the Pirate Pass for FL residents? That was like $599

And yes, I know those prices could rise when they start selling again, but using for reference and comparison.
What I would love is a weekday only DVC pass.

Maybe, but obviously I'm proposing exchanging dead presidents for tickets. While OKW owners may have enjoyed free admission for a number of years, we all know they weren't free. Somewhere in the anals of a Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet somewhere, those tickets were accounted for in the COO. I guarantee it.

Yes, the way they might do this is to have say a 20 day pass, a 30 day pass and so on. You pick the one you want based on how many days you expect to stay during the year.

That could be something completely different, certainly. What I'm proposing is just another iteration of an AP, just hard-tied to the resorts for overnight stays.

For example, I wouldn't even entertain something like that that expired. It would absolutely have to be a steal of a price even then. I never know how many days we're going to go. We do everything from studios (granted, primarily) to 1BR to 2BR and we never know how many days we can shake that into. What I do know is that I will always work it so it's 20-30 days a year for us.

I've said it before but I'd be thrilled with the pixie pass ??? The one with no weekends for $400.

I could work with that easy.

My bet would be that you are an anomaly when it comes to DVC though. Most of us probably do some variations of the weekends, and the booking numbers support that assumption. That pass is designed primarily for the locals I spoke of in my OP. Those people don't even want to be there on the weekend and fight the crowds. They go for dinner and a walk/ride a ride, or have a drink, and they go home. My bet would be that the people who DVC by weekday only parameters is very limited.

Edit to add: I agree to the extent that I have always wondered why all of the FL offerings aren't available to DVC for anyone willing to accept the accompanying restrictions. It has always baffled me, and still does to this day. Most of them wouldn't really help anyone but FL Residents and DVC members anyway.

The best solution is to just let us get those!!

I wouldn't simply because I now live close enough to do day trips and generally visit once or twice a month in addition to using our 625 points.
